Meabhar is Irish, but lived in the US for 12 years. He regularly writes on the ga Vicipéid (that's Wikipedia in Irish, or Gaelic, or in the language itself 'Gaeilge'), and occasionally on the English and other Wikipedias. He translates from English, French, Spanish, and sometimes Italian, Portuguese and German, and is himself one of few native speakers of Irish, a language which basically everyone gets instruction in in Ireland, but which a limited number gain fluency in. The language is not closely related to English, but is one of the Celtic languages

He is a psychiatrist, which is a medical specialty dealing with mental illness and health. He is willing to translate in a wide range of subjects, as he himself has wide interests.
