I was born on Santa Catarina hospital, in the central area of Goiânia. I might have Jewish ancestry, because "Paixão" (Passion [of the Christ]) is a last name linked to the New Christians, the Portuguese Jews who were forced to convert to the Catholic Church, as well as my maternal grandmother's last name, "Parreira". I might also have Jewish ancestry through my paternal grandfather, a German or Polish Brazilian whose last name "Rebak" is an alternative spelling of the Jewish name "Rybak", according to the WhitePages.com. Beside that, I also have Native Brazilian ancestry through my maternal grandfather.

I was born along with the Brazilian democracy, since two days later after I was born my mother escaped the hospital to vote for president for the first time in her life (she cast her vote to Lula). I received the name I deserved, according to the Dictionary of Names: "Rodrigo means famous king and indicates a person that, although is sincere and loyal, tends to speak too much without thinking about what he says, and that can bring him problems. His parents should teach him to measure his words". Funny, eh?

But, beyond frank, sincere, and loyal, I can also be very optimistic and/or critical of the reality that surrounds me. I love Brazil very much, regardless of its endless list of problems, and my family, and I always try to keep an open mind to new life experiences and friendships, even though they are not always healthy to me. I tend to sympathize with the pain of others very easily - you can define me as a humanist if you wish.

I'm an agnostic Catholic (very lapsed, since I have never been confirmed on that Church) but I would love to known that indeed there is a God out there. I like to think that I'm guarded by Saint Christopher. My religious belief is very syncretic, as I also believe in orishas, the divine entities of Afro-Brazilian religions. My political beliefs tend to the left-wing (more specifically to the center-left wing) as I am a member of the Workers' Party since 2008. However, just like my involvement with Catholicism, my activism in the party is very limited.

I am a graduate student on Journalism at the Pontifical Catholic University of Goiás, but I grew disenchanted with the career perspectives for the last couple of years, once I realized that I would have to compromise a lot of my ethical beliefs in order to became a journalist. I currently consider the possibility of trying to become a civil servant after my graduation, which is due on December 2011.

Possivelmente, tenho origem judaica, já que o sobrenome "Paixão" é ligado aos novos-cristãos, os judeus que foram obrigados a se converter ao catolicismo pela coroa portuguesa. O mesmo ocorre em relação ao sobrenome "Parreira", da minha avó materna. Talvez também tenho ascendência judaica através do meu avô paterno, um teuto ou polaco-brasileiro cujo sobrenome "Rebak" é uma grafia alternativa para o sobrenome judeu "Rybak", segundo o sítio WhitePages.com. Além disso, também tenho ascendência ameríndia através do meu avô materno.

Eu nasci junto com a democracia brasileira, já que dois dias depois de meu nascimento minha mãe fugiu do hospital para votar para presidente pela primeira vez na vida dela (votou em Lula). Eu recebi o nome que mereço, segundo o Dicionário de Nomes: "Rodrigo significa rei famoso e indica uma pessoa que, embora seja sincera e leal, tende a falar muito sem pensar naquilo que diz, e isso pode lhe trazer problemas. Os pais devem lhe ensinar a medir as palavras". Legal, né?

Mas, além de franco, leal e sincero, também posso ser muito otimista e/ou crítico da realidade que me rodeia. Apesar da interminável lista de problemas que ele apresenta, amo muito o Brasil, e a minha família, e tento manter sempre a mente aberta para novas experiências e amizades, apesar de que elas nem sempre são benéficas para mim. Tenho tendência a me simpatizar muito com a dor alheia - podem-me chamar de um humanista se quiserem.

Sou um católico agnóstico (muito relapso, já que nunca fui crismado) que adoraria descobrir que há, de fato, um Deus. Gosto de pensar que sou guardado por São Cristóvão. Minha crença religiosa é muito sincrética, já que também acredito em orixás, entidades sagradas das religiões afro-brasileiras. Minha crença religiosa pende para a esquerda (mais especificamente a centro-esquerda), uma vez que sou membro do Partido dos Trabalhadores desde 2008. Entretanto, assim como meu envolvimento com o catolicismo, meu ativismo político é muito limitado.

Sou estudante de jornalismo na Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Goiás, mas me desencantei com as perspectivas para a carreira nos últimos anos, já que percebi que teria que comprometer grande parte de minhas crenças éticas para me tornar um jornalista. Atualmente considero a possibilidade de tentar me tornar um funcionário público após minha formatura, que está marcada para dezembro de 2011.
