Thanks a lot for your message, it is really nice to read something like this in the morning after waking up!

Thanks :-) Fantasy 11:46, 5 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Greetings; ja: editing[edit]

Hello Aphaia,

I know you've been doing a lot of work on the ja: newsletter; thank you. Would you like to be in charge of editing the final ja: version? This would involve making sure it fits neatly onto its pages, watching over the work of proofreaders, etc. Let me know on Talk:Wikimedia newsletter. +sj+ 19:03, 10 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Hi Aphaia (: The en: version of the newsletter is frozen. Please update any translations of it section by section, and be sure to update the en: list of Translators as necessary. +sj+ 11:50, 17 Sep 2004 (UTC)

A little addition to cy:Temporary:Cymraeg[edit]

Hi there -- I'm somewhat new to multilingual Wiki editing, but I've added a little bit about the Chubut Valley that was missing from your ja: version of cy:Temporary:Cymraeg. It was originally in the en: version, so let me know if the addition looks okay. I hadn't signed up except on the en: site at that point, so my edit showed up with my IP address. -- Che fox 04:48, 16 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Thank you for your notice.「パタゴニアにあるチェブット谷」で is OK. A multigingual guidance is pretty sweet.:) --Aphaia 05:39, 16 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Press contact on ja: projects[edit]

Hi Aphaia. I can read Japanese with a dictionary, but am not fluent in my written Japanese... so I'm not sure how much I can help with the press release or the mailing list. I'm happy to send it to my press contacts though. Joi 19:59, 21 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Thank you Joi for your collaboration. I appreciate you and your effort. Now we're planning to make press releases on local issues on ja: (75K milestones, award and so on). If you would like to send such other press release, please let me know your interest. --Aphaia 20:07, 21 Sep 2004 (UTC)
Would be happy to send out your release to my press contacts. Send it to my email jito@neoteny.com. Joi 06:45, 22 Sep 2004 (UTC)

On the foundation site[edit]

Hi Aphaia, you asked me a question on my user page in Wikipedia NL. Well, I made the picture of the Iron Gates myself, and it's licensed under GNU/FDL. Fransvannes 20:40, 26 Sep 2004 (UTC) (by the way, what is Quarto?)

Italian Foundation & newsletter[edit]

Hello, thank you for leaving a message :)

Just for your information, I'm also involved into the creation of Wikimedia Italia, the local chapter of the foundation. We are still discussing about roadmap and bureaucratic tasks, as you can see on the discussion page.

Is this a subject of local news? May I add some thing about this in the italian edition? For the moment, I'm just translating.

Best Regards

BW

Grazie per tua risposta. Sj te rispondera` su questo. --Aphaia 11:49, 1 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Thank you, I didn't understand why I should translate again that page, it sounded a little bit strange to me... This demonstrate how stupid I could be sometime:) Any way, by tuesday or wednesday I should have arranged a beta version.

I'm waiting for some one to stand up by thursday for the announce and PDF stuff, otherwise I'll try on my own.

Bye bye and thank you again. Blakwolf 07:43, 3 Oct 2004 (UTC)

I'm still reviewing the translation. I'll let you know when it's ready. I don't think to have more time to work on it today (babies are crying :). Bye bye now. Blakwolf 08:23, 3 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Grazie BW per il tuo messagio. Salutami i tuoi banbini ;) --Aphaia 08:30, 3 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Well, the newsletter should be OK. I translated Fundraising (Donazioni) and WMF/Home/It (pagina Principale), how shall I notify that the pages are ready? Which one is more needed next, in your opinion? Blakwolf 06:54, 4 Oct 2004 (UTC)

I've just finished the cover page. (the babies aren't mine actually, but my neighbor's. The result is the same :) - Blakwolf 12:27, 4 Oct 2004 (UTC)
:-) Allora salutami a i tuoi amichi :)
PS: Should I prepare the local news, or do I have to wait for the discussion that Anthere proposed? - Blakwolf
Brava/o, then I'll move Quarto to the foundation site; the priorities is shown in their order on Translation requests/WMF, the first entry (so pagina principale) has the highest priority. When you finish your translate, please do your request for update with marking
it: Update
As for the local news, it is good to consult Anthere in my opinion, specially if she proposed discussion. Anthere was just now working on meta, supponsingly you will able to catch her up on #wikimedia. --Aphaia 12:37, 4 Oct 2004 (UTC)

I'm sorry, while I've unlimited internet access from my workplace, IRCs are disabled by proxy. So, no #anything. I'm leaving her a message. As Pagina Principale is done, I'm starting About (Informazioni). Have a nice day. Blakwolf 05:45, 5 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Minor typo in Quarto Cover page and a question[edit]

At the bottom of italian cover, the link is "Nesletter" instead of "Newsletter". In the italian WMF translation, do you think I should indicate both September launch of Quarto and the italina edition in October, or the first only? - Blakwolf 08:35, 5 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Thank you for your notice, I'll correct the link asap. As for title, I think September is enough; but it is better for us to discuss on it. That is only my personal oppinion. I'm very sorry irc connectivity can't avail you; we will have a meeting tommorrow on irc (see Talk:Wikimedia Quarto). I recommend you to join the mailing list, Quarto-l. --Aphaia 08:44, 5 Oct 2004 (UTC)
I signed up in Wikimedia Quarto, is there anything more to do? (please note my user page is w:it:Utente:Blakwolf, without c. The links won't work if mispelled. thamk you)Blakwolf 12:13, 5 Oct 2004 (UTC)
Ti chiami Blakwolf davvero. Scusami ... Mi piacere per che ti sei iscritta/o come un languages stuff. Ma hai dimenticato a scriverti come traduttore della questa editione! So (sorry for best accuracy) put your name on the page Wikimedia Quarto as proofreader and/or translatior. And if you oversee the translation, please make it sure if all translators are listed up there. Grazie. --Aphaia 14:39, 5 Oct 2004 (UTC)
I did it. My name isn't in the Newsletter translation, but I did it on purpose. I've just feeded ispell with the translation and made some minor review, not so much to be listed as "contributor". - Blakwolf 15:13, 5 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Hello, In Wikimediafoundation "Our Projects" page the top link to the italian version is missing , could you fix it? thank you very much. As soon as the other pages are translated, there will be some link to fix, also, because I left the links to the english version. Have a nice day.

Quarto[edit]

Hallo Aphaia,

Legal issue report[edit]

Hello. I was wondering if you could provide a written update on any legal issues happening on ja before the board meeting on Saturday please? Thanks. Angela 15:21, 5 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Hello Angela, I will be ale to coordinate other users for making a report, since I am willingly to help you but I am not sure if I am appropritate to make such a report; I'm a relatively newbie nor laity on juristics. So the update from ja might be provided the board under the other users' name instead of mine (or me, it depends on). --Aphaia 00:49, 6 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Report on Spanish Projects for WQ2[edit]

Hi, I replied to your request on my page: Arca.

Mission accomplished ;D Sorry for the delay. --Arca 16:50, 21 Dec 2004 (UTC)

No problem. You didn't delay at last; the deatline was postponed to 24 December Please give a look on Translation requests/WQ/2 *grin. By the way have you seen WQ/News? There is news on Newsletter vol.1 --Aphaia 17:04, 21 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Nice to hear that. I'll have to post that translation request somewhere in the Wikipedia in Spanish. And thanks for that WQ/News link, it's useful. Is there a place where all relevant links to the WQ are posted? --Arca 06:09, 30 Dec 2004 (UTC)

I got really confused about the latest version of the WQ1 cover and ended up doing this one. Do you still need this image and if so where can I get the background and text images separated? --Arca 06:09, 30 Dec 2004 (UTC)

I feel sorry to hear you confused. As for WQ1 we need the high resolution cover, if it will be printed. I'm not sure of it. The cover you've now uploaded seems to be fine for me. But if you couldn't find the separate background and text, how could you create Spanish cover? ;-) Just curious. --Aphaia 06:57, 30 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Well, it seems that they've had about 5 different versions of the cover, with at least 2 different backgrounds and various different text layers. I found out too late that the file I had translated was an old one. I could never find the newest version in separate files, though. --Arca 22:19, 30 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Ah, I thought you engaged consiously WQ1, which has been left incomplete in copyediting. I am happy to see you finished it. The cover for WQ1 in Spanish is correct as far as I know; orange-yellow background and some topics. That is "fusion des communitees" by villy. As for current on-going version you find the links to workspace on Translation requests/WQ/2. WQ2, so-called blue edition will have a blue-background coverage but it is now unfinished. --Aphaia 04:12, 31 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Why Don't tolk would block?[edit]

Why did you think it would block? Although the name had gone up to the "user who needs a dialog" of "the user who makes many reports for arrangement" to be sure, what the block request was carried out for without your having a dialog is a big mistake, and it is a high risk no return. Please stop a request of a permanent block and withdraw it immediately now. Please arrange this subject for discussion by Talk Page, and discuss thoroughly in Japanese. All are from it first. Don't carry out a block request, without discussing. [Translation into http://www.excite.co.jp/world/english / English is used]--Project 07:35, 17 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Sorry, I can't understand what you meant. Would you like to rewrite it? My acceptable languages are ja, de and en. Cheers. --Aphaia 08:28, 17 Dec 2004 (UTC)

You are welcome[edit]

Hello Aphaia, thank you for your commentary in my talk-page. I only made a short summary of some activities in Spanish Wikiversity. I am very glad if the commentary I wrote is useful for the Wikimagazine, especially when it is interesting for somebody. Cheers. --Javier Carro 00:03, 19 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Hi Aphaia, hope you're doing well.

I'm fine, I was busy for last couple of months, and couldn't contribute to Wikipedia that much, I'm back now :)

I plan on working on the second newsletter, I will also put the announcement on Arabic Wikipedia.

Hi! About multilingualism[edit]

Hi! Thank you for the message. I'm more interested in organizing articles, interface, etc. My english is not very good, but i will consider your proposal. ;) Peleguer 04:37, 30 Jan 2005 (UTC)

I'm preparing an article about User:Peleguer/Laboratori/Conventions for multilingualism. It's about names, categories and templates conventions. What do you think of this project? Where might this page be located? Thank you. Peleguer 18:07, 30 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Hi. I just found your draft on Recentchanges and it very interesting . But I'm not sure I understood it completely ... But it seems very smart. Already I put a link on Babylon, Translators headquarter. In my opinion the file name "Conventions for multilingualism" goes well. You can add a link from Multilingualism to your project. --Aphaia | WQ2翻訳中 | talk 19:08, 30 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Sorry, i did a little mess with that page, but finally it is on Meta:Conventions for multilingualism. Please, can you delete Conventions for multilingualism?. It's only a redirect and there's no pages linking it. Thank you. Peleguer 20:57, 30 Jan 2005 (UTC)

No problem but please consider if Meta namespace is a proper place for your projects? There is no file about multilingualism on Meta namespace, if I recall correctly. Please let me know your idea. Later I'll be back and deal with a redirect. --Aphaia | WQ2翻訳中 | talk 21:02, 30 Jan 2005 (UTC)

I considered Meta namespace because it's a subject concerning only to meta pages (like Meta:Interlanguage links). However, other pages like Interlanguage links, Babylon or Translation are about translation in general, for meta and for the other wikipedias. Peleguer 21:27, 30 Jan 2005 (UTC)

OK, Done. --Aphaia | WQ2翻訳中 | talk 03:35, 31 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Spam[edit]

Hi Aphaia! In the past we had a number of situations where images from our image bank were used without authorization but, now it's the other way round: travel-images.com has been included in your spam list. (site was also removed from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photo_archive) Please check what's wrong.

Best regards,

Miguel mtorres (a) travel - images . com

Hi, Thank you for your message. this url was spammed on Italian Wikipedia and so reported. I checked their request and listed it up. I hope this information is helpful for you. Regards,

--Aphaia | WQ2翻訳中 | talk 05:44, 13 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Hi, If there are any spam links remove them, but please don't remove our site from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photo_archive (Our site includes images even of the world's less visited and know places, all the images acessible although copyrighted - about 20.000 are on-line).

Regards,

Miguel

It was not me who removed this url from that file you mentioned, and I have no reason to add it again. You should contact who removed it from that file, Regards,

--Aphaia | WQ2翻訳中 | talk 09:20, 13 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Hi, It was removed as being in the spam list makes the page impossible to save. Regards, Miguel

It is totally en self-governance matter and I have no reason to add a spammed link to our project. But you can find your supporter in Talk:Spam blacklist, where the link you mentioned was listed. If you want to remove it or other thing, please put your proposal there. Thanks. --Aphaia | WQ2翻訳中 | talk 15:21, 13 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Sure. Could you please first move the "wikimedia needs your help message", so the sitenotice won't point to non-existing pages? --Glimz 01:09, Feb 18, 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for adding it. {{NeedHelp}} should be on the Bg:version as well though. As for the sitenotice: I added it on bg.wikipedia, but don't have access on the rest of the projects. --Glimz 01:30, Feb 18, 2005 (UTC)

Hello Aphaia, there's a couple of terms I'd like to be sure about. "Grant" as "assegnazione" is most likely correct, but I'd like to be sure: what does in this specific case "grant" mean? "Hardware assistant" is a person, an "assistant", or is it "assistance"? Thx. Giorgio Giorgio. (Drop a note) I'm here 21:20, 18 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Ciao Giorgio, scusami cosi' tardo. Well "grant" are possibly "assegnazione" (sorry my Italian is not so good). It is money or things which a certain foundation or organisation gives us to help our activities. You can read them in details on Translation requests/WMF/Home/En:#Latest news.
Hardware assistant is a person: Chad Perrin.
I hope my answers are helpful enough for you. --Aphaia | WQ2翻訳中 | talk 06:51, 20 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Problem with two spanish links in Wikimedia Foundation[edit]

Hi Aphaia. Thanks for updating the Wikimedia Foundation pages with the spanish translations.

There is a strange problem now: in the About Wikimedia page on Wikimedia Foundation, the link to the spanish version is red and goes to the editing page, altough if you go there you can then click on the article tab and see it without problem :S The same is happening in the Our projects page. Maybe it's a problem with my cache, but I don't know. Please take a look at it. Thank you.

It's my pleasure ;-) As for "exisiting but red links", I suppose it is a problem of cache. On my environment they seem to have no red link. If you get them after you reload the page, please report it again (perhaps as a bug?) Cheers. --Aphaia | WQ2翻訳中 | talk 23:36, 20 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Quarto[edit]

hi, I found it very confusing that there are 2 versions of the Wikinews-de-translation, but the one here on meta is only a redirect. I think it's better to concentrat on ONE Wiki and I suggest meta is the better one. But I think I'll make a list of all the Translationpages on my Userpage here on meta. Please have a look there. --Louisana 15:33, 21 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Sorry for your confusion. I am not sure if it was good idea for everyone. But I thought work on German Wiki could attact more attention than on meta, because the new translation request page on German Wikipedia seemed not to be attractive. But perhaps we should wait more before conclusion.
Wikinews translation on DEWP seems to be finished. Would you like to move it again to meta?
I looked your user page on meta. Such a list of translation is useful. Would you like to put this list on other paged like Uebesetzungantraege? --Aphaia | WQ2翻訳中 | talk 01:06, 23 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Japanese Wiktionary ... not only[edit]

Ciao Aphaia! I just noted that your German is very good - my mothertognue is German and my second near-mothertognue language is Italian - then English and French, a bit of Spanish and that's it. I once tried to learn Japanese, but due to serveral reasons I could not go ahead. So your signs when you write don't seem strange to me, but I cannot read at all.
As much as I could see from your profile: you speak many languages and so you must have a huge cultural background - this is great, really - this means that many people, including me, can learn a lot from you.
I re-visited the link that talks about the locked Japanese wiktionary. As much as I remeber, the problem were spammed or almost empty pages. I really have problems to know where to write there. So some notes here.
The only way to get out of the mess is deleting all that is not useful - edit these words now would take you too much time. The pages will simply be created again when there's something to add. The problem is to check everyday contributions by people. Normally when I have a new user I check his edits for the first days and if things work out well: no probs - otherwise I talk with him/her about what can be done. I check every edit done without a user name - sometimes this is quite hard, but many of them are vandals. Sometimes vandals seem to insert "useful" stuff (often copied from wikipedia to wiktionary) - I delete it. If I am not sure if something is to be considered vandalism I ask the other users about their opinion - and if there is no answer: I prefer deleting things. Vandals receive more than just 24 hrs lock - normally 10 days (240 hours) and if I note a certain style more frequently I even extend this period.
Your great challenge is now: put things right and then re-open the doors - the edits must be checked every day - and now the Italian wiktionary is reaching a dimension where I should need someone else to help me, when I cannot check every day - I noted this during the last weeks when my kids had the flue (then my husband and in the end me) - I hope I found all vandalised pages, but really it is not easy if you are alone. Normally being admins on the same wiktionary would imply that you communicate and tell the other one if there's a period when you cannot follow up things well so the other admin has a closer look - a thing I am missing a bit on the Italian wiktionary.
As for co-operation creating "special words" I always had the idea that it would be great to have a list of persons where once a day or once a week we can send a word to have it completed in as many languages as possible then we could insert this particular word in every wiktionary and send it out as one of the "words of the day". It is hard to find such people - I already tried more than just once ... maybe we can create a list - what do you think about this? I am going to write a message about the word of the day to the wiktionary-l now. Ciao, Sabine! --Sabine 08:29, 6 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Thank you for your advices. I will put your opinions in appropriate place on our talk. I love your words of the day initiative and appliciate you on that very much. It would be good for us to have a list of "words of the day", so a newly created Wiktionary will be able to utilize this list afterwards. Ciao, Aphaia | WQ2翻訳中 | talk 09:08, 6 Mar 2005 (UTC)
As for the list of the words of the day I have it on the Italian wiktionary - many of them can be used, but sometimes you will prefer to use one of the last additions or one related to an event in the news or something like this. Anyway, the link with the words of the day is here: http://it.wiktionary.org/wiki/Wikizionario:La_parola_del_giorno. Ciao!!!--Sabine 13:02, 6 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Quarto vol 2[edit]

Hi, thanks for your message and for the information about the translation lists I'd missed so far. I posted a request for help in order to finish the Spanish edition of Quarto as soon as possible. I think that the translation of the rest of the sections will be ready in a week. The proofreading depends on other people's contributions, but I hope there will be enough volunteers, so we probably could meet the proposed deadline of march 15. Cheers, Ascánder 11:13, 6 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Thank you for your responce. I'm afraid there are a little Spanish translator on the list. Now we are discussion the newsletter renewal (vol.3 would be minimized than the current version) and I hope you to let us your opinion.
As for translators I think it would be the best for you to recruit translators on your language Wikipedia or language mailinglist. I am really happy to see Spanish edition development and will be much happier to see it as one of first released versions. Cheers, --Aphaia | WQ2翻訳中 | talk 11:33, 6 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Quarto 2 PL and some other stuff[edit]

Hi there. I'm convinced that we can translate and proofread 100% of Q2 till march 15th. kocio did an awful lot of great work on this and now all that's left is cleanup basically. Also, Datrio promised to help out, so we should have it all done well before the deadline (if we don't get lazy, that is ;)).

And as for the newsletters you've mentioned (translators-l and quarto-l) -- thanks, I've subscribed them and will try to participate actively. There is one thing I've noticed, though. Quarto-l is not on the list at http://mail.wikimedia.org/ You know anyone with access to fix this? Cheers, TOR 17:47, 6 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Quarto 2 JA[edit]

広報誌Quartoの校正の件、承知いたしました。上から順に、proof on-goingになっていないものを見ていきたいと思います。最後のインタビューが難物そうですね。--NJT 08:23, 8 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Just send me the link to read (maybe here, maybe in IRC) and i will do my best -- MichaelDiederich 19:37, 9 Mar 2005 (UTC)

The local law can be the state of Florida or the city of Tampa. Each may have rules which affect whether it is allowed.

Please please please[edit]

When I am working on a page, do not edit while I am not finished. I just had a conflict and I am trying hard to update the figures, now, I have to do it all over again. Thank you. notafish }<';> 16:36, 11 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Sorry, nota. I disturbed you twice. I hope it was the last. Love, Aphaia | WQ2翻訳中 | talk 16:56, 11 Mar 2005 (UTC)
