VectorNewLook_phase3 Korean translation[edit]

Hello. I've seen you from the history of MediaWiki:Centralnotice-VectorNewLook phase3-pitch. Could you change the Korean translation of VectorNewLook_phase3 as:

  • pitch - {{SITENAME}}의 인터페이스를 새단장하였습니다.
  • link - 문제점 개선과 유저 인터페이스 번역을 도와 주세요.

Thank you. --Puzzlet Chung 04:04, 22 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Az1568, Just wanted to say thanks for your incredible work with coordinating translations. It's really appreciated by so many people. --Philippe 04:16, 22 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Az1568. I'm responsible for some pt and io additions to the appropriate category. Would you mind taking care of them? Thanks and best, Malafaya 00:55, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sure. Thanks for helping us get the notice localized. But could you make sure that they also are on this page: usability:Releases/Default Switch#Phase IV Deployment, if not already? That's where most of the translations I publish are from. --Az1568 (talk) 01:41, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, alright! That's what I was looking for but couldn't find it. I'll do that too. Thanks, Malafaya 01:43, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I did a small correction to MediaWiki talk:Centralnotice-VectorNewLook phase3-link/io. Could you please update? Thanks, Malafaya 02:03, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sure. Done --Az1568 (talk) 02:05, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure how this works but is it possible that some server caching issue is preventing this last update to be seen in the corresponding wikis even after browser cache cleared? Malafaya 02:12, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah. It could take up to 10-15 minutes sometimes... --Az1568 (talk) 02:13, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Centralnotice-VectorChanged-newlook[edit]

After this change, it isn't a proper Finnish language any more. It should be {{GRAMMAR:illative|{{SITENAME}}}}. --Crt 18:22, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Changed. --Az1568 (talk) 18:43, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Translating CentralNotice[edit]

Hello. Please take some time to consider the following issues. Let's say I see the notice "Wikimedia is getting a new look" on my home project. The notice is most likely in English since only a few are translated and for some reason the notice is displayed in "Phase V" projects as well.

Why wouldn't it be displayed on Phase V projects too? Most of them still have time to join Phase IV by translating the required messages by the 28th. Even if they don't fit into Phase IV, they'll still fit the improvements in soon with Phase V. The only projects that shouldn't get the notice are ones who've already been switched, and those ones don't have the notice already.
I would expect wikis getting the switch in 1 week and in 5 weeks to display slightly different messages but that's okay. -AlexSm 02:22, 25 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I follow the link to 2010 Wikimedia design and feature change which tells me to go to usability:Releases/Default_Switch to translate the notice. If I poke around a little, I might get to the Special:NoticeTemplate interface, then choose my language, only to find out I cannot change anything, althogh the text above clearly says "This module allows you to edit ...".

If I'm really persistent (and also experienced), I might find the list of all translated messages, check their histories and then get to your talk page where I can finally make a request.

Am I missing something or does it have to be this complicated?

-AlexSm 18:37, 24 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, the landing page tells you to translate messages related to the deployment, including the CetralNotices. I'm not sure why you're "poking around a little", instead of just adding your language to that page. So, it's really not that complicated if you do follow the process: add a row for your language (base it off en), translate the relevant messages and lines, and then set the status correctly. You'll notice that things tend to become more complicated when you try to do them yourself instead of following the regular process. Cbrown1023 talk 21:54, 24 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • The Default Switch page does not say to add a "row for your language"
  • That table is Phase IV projects. A little background: I noticed a thread on a tech village of Phase V wiki (not my home wiki) where one user (1.5K edits, translator) said he could not find where to translate this notice and then admin (a rather "technical" one) said "yes, we can translate but only if we switch to Phase IV" (which they do not want).
  • The number of editprotected requests in RC in MediaWiki talk and also several requests here and on user talk:Cbrown1023 suggest that most users actually do it my way (finding related system messages and looking in history)
  • Finally, CentralNotice interface (linked as a bold link from Default Switch) is misleading redardless.
-AlexSm 02:22, 25 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry... but what is the point of all this? Instead of complaining so much, why don't you make some constructive changes yourself. If you noticed the page didn't have some clear instructions on how to translate, why not add some? - or work with one of us on writing a basic set of instructions for everyone. This is a wiki after all. But if you're just going to sit here and tell us about how all these things are wrong, unclear, etc. it really isn't going to help anyone. --Az1568 (talk) 04:28, 25 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If we could skip the "denying the obvious" step then I wouldn't have to "complain so much", right? Actually, quite often I fix things myself, I really do. I would fix "Default Switch" page if I was sure what to add there. I still don't know which way you want users to submit translations: this talk page, MediaWiki talk pages or by appending to (a new) table. I don't think cloning that table for Pase V is a good idea, because you would mixing projects (remember you have "announcement" and "ambasador" columns) and languages, and it's going to be confusing once people start adding sister projects. I would add [translate] link to untranslated notices If I had the rights and knew how to do it properly. Also, I would have added e.g. "This module is available to admins only" to MediaWiki:Centralnotice-summary already (fixing it for users with en interface at least) if I had the rights. -AlexSm 05:28, 25 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Macedonian - urgent corrections[edit]

Hello. I am the chief translator for Macedonian on MediaWiki It seems that the current system messages that appear on mk.wiki are quite wrong (poor translation), and it needs urgent correction. Here are the messages and next to them I have put the corrected version of the text as it should be. I have marked the corrections in bold letters. If this can be done as soon as possible, I will be very grateful. I have made the same corrections on the Usability wiki and changed their status from 'published' to 'ready', so I'd appreciate some help with that, if it can be implemented too, for I don't know who is responsible there and when it will be done.

Thank you very much. --B. Jankuloski 21:32, 1 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for letting me know. I'm actually the translation coordinator for the Usability Initiative, so you've come to the right person. :-) I'll take a look at the chart on usability wiki and update the messages. --Az1568 (talk) 22:35, 1 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Translation of "Notice something different?"[edit]

I've been trying to find the place where to translate this into Romanian (for ro.wp) and eventually I had to give up. It's not at translatewiki.net, it's not among the ro.wp system messages, it's nowhere to be found at Meta, I can't google it out, and the link in the notice that reads "help us with the translation" leads here, which is a dead end, since on that page there is no trace of the Romanian version of the notice. I am trying to help, but whoever organized the transition to the new interface could have made it just a little bit easier.

Now, could you please help me help? — AdiJapan 10:15, 2 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Is it maybe going to be here? I don't have admin rights at Meta, so I will ask you to copy and paste this translation:
S-a schimbat ceva? {{SITENAME}} evoluează!
As for the "Learn more." part, in Romanian that is "Detalii.", with a link to this page, which has already been translated.
Thanks. — AdiJapan 11:13, 2 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hello. I'm sorry that you had difficulty finding the translations page. Normally, translations should always be posted on Meta -- I did not create this request. I've actually had difficulty coordinating translations for this request myself. :-) I'm not sure if you had read all of the instructions on the default switch page or not, but you'd see "If your local Wikipedia project meets the criteria above, feel free to add it to this list and translate the information listed in the (en) row, into your own language.". All you needed to do was create a new section for the Romanian language, copy the text from the (en) row, translate it, create any necessary pages on your local project, and set the status as "ready".

I've added your translation above to the CN system. --Az1568 (talk) 08:08, 3 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I'll try and be extra careful next time.
I still think these system messages should be stored on each local project, so that the local community can translate and adjust them without asking for assistance from others. — AdiJapan 14:25, 3 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fundraising Committee[edit]

Hi there! Thanks for volunteering to sit on the Fundraising committee. The work of the committee will be really valuable to making this year's annual giving campaign really effective. I've posted an overview to Fundraising 2010, and would love your thoughts on the talk page. I'm also going to try to set up an IRC meeting soon, and hope you'll join for that. VectorNewLook phase3-link/ru[edit]

Hello. Please update MediaWiki:Centralnotice-VectorNewLook phase3-link/ru with the text "Помогите нам найти возможные ошибки". And no, I do not want to edit "the table" because I have no idea if those projects are ready or not. I just noticed that all of them have this silly half-Russian, half-English message and I want to fix it. -AlexSm 04:07, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Done, thanks! --Az1568 (talk) 06:15, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've restored it because it's quite useless to ask Italian language users to give feedback in English, and that's the page where we're collecting Italian language feedback (anyway, Italian language sisterprojects are well informed and know what they need to do, actually they should be ready). I hope that's ok, otherwise forgive me and re-delete. Thank you, Nemo 05:39, 7 August 2010 (UTC) P.s.: I suppose it's the same for MediaWiki:Centralnotice-VectorNewLook phase3-url/hu.[reply]

Meeting[edit]

Hi all,

I'd like to have a meeting on IRC this week to discuss the 2010-2011 annual appeal/fundraiser. This will be an "anyone is welcome" type meeting, open to the broad community. During this, Zack Exley and I will take you through our inital thoughts about the fundraiser and its organization, and ask you to join us in a discussion about the (massive) role of volunteers and chapters in this year's fundraiser.

Because of the vagaries of time zones, scheduling live meetings is hard. So, we'll have a couple of potential times, and we'll log and post the meeting for anyone who wasn't able to make it.

The meetings will be held Thursday, 12 August at 23:00 UTC (16:00 PDT) and Friday, 13 August at 16:30 UTC (09:30 PDT) in the #wikimedia-fundraising channel on the freenode network on IRC (irc://irc.freenode.net/wikimedia-fundraising). You can access this using freenode's webclient, which is available at http://webchat.freenode.net/ or by using your favorite IRC client.

Hope to see you there! Philippe (WMF) 19:31, 10 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

CVN Bots[edit]

Hello Az1568,

I just established a list of small wikis which are not followed by CVN Bots. I may be mistaken, but I think that all these 40 projects need to be added.

The problem is that more than 100 projects are already monitored per bot. So what about adding a new CVNBot ? Furthermore it will let CVNBot7 (which seems to have some problems) remain calm.

Have a good week ! -- Quentinv57 14:22, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

TemplateScript upgrade[edit]

Hi Az1568. You're using TemplateScript, which I've recently redesigned and rewritten. The changes include scripts, sidebar sections, conditional display, a simpler and more flexible interface, and full compatibility with Vector and legacy skins (see the new documentation). I'm gradually migrating users to the new version; do you want me to update your global.js and monobook.js files, or would you prefer to no longer get updates? (You're the first guinea pig!)

(Also, MediaWiki now supports a /common.js subpage. If you'd like, Synchbot can delete your skin-specific subpages crosswiki, and create global common.js subpages. :)) —Pathoschild 06:55:51, 07 May 2011 (UTC)

Hey Pathoschild. Sure. Feel free to go ahead and update my js pages and to clean up my old global css pages. Thanks! --Az1568 (talk) 05:32, 8 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
All done; let me know if there any issues. In particular, I merged your monobook.js scripts into common.js on enwikibooks and oldwikisource. Some of the other scripts might not be Vector-compatible, and might need to be removed. —Pathoschild 02:29:56, 12 May 2011 (UTC)

Local Chapter[edit]

I am that user who has incorrectly translated "local chapters" as "sedi locali". Then I corrected to "Capitoli Locali". The problem is that on the Wikimedia Foundation' site, the italian corresponding page doesn't exist in the bar at the top. It's odd. (You see well here) I also wanted alert you that the page on Meta in Italian is now updated. Then please, you should copy it and place it on the site of the Wikimedia Foundation. I would not have you asked if had been able to do it, but I'm not joining the Wikimedia Foundation.

Is it allowed in Wikipedia?[edit]

To keep in the pages of wiki Administrator's personnel thesis? at http://sd.wikipedia.org ? Other problem is We call Computer as same in English, but admin forcibly used his word Ganpukar of Computer. I have proof that thousands of published books called it Computer not Ganpukar. If some one oppose him he started abusive language. That is the reason sd.wikipedia.org never got attraction to Sindhi community. Plz check record there. Other things are he locked CSS due to that on the same site there are lot of font styles appeared there. He is not able to set commonCSS or Monocss. We are in trouble to work in our local Sindhi language. I don't know where to say for this problem. Record history says all the situation there. I appeal plz warn him to follow en.wikipedia.org rules, other wise he will continue use his personnel details and personnel promoted articles there. Dear I am sorry If u r not right person to say all about this, Plz suggest me where I can raise this issue. My sd.wikipedia.org ID is same. question[edit]

Hi Az1568, I'd like to ask you about this. These emails were cc to the list of arbitrators. The only reason the exchange was going over emails was that I was blocked on English wiki. The emails are relevant to the case. Are emails from arbcom are considered private? If they are, how could I prove that now, online, arbcom provided a false information about our communications. Thanks.--Mbz1 11:48, 9 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Also, when I wrote articles, I often quoted copy-righted sources, of course putting these in quotes, and providing the names of the authors. --Mbz1 12:23, 9 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That does not change the fact that you used them without the consent of the persons who sent them. Using the exact words of others, sent in an email which was considered to be private, without prior consent would constitute a copyright violation. While I am glad to hear that you often cite your sources on enwiki, that is really besides the point here. I'm also unfortunately... not able to assist you with your RFC, but best of luck with your case. --Az1568 (talk) 09:55, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Permission was now granted by Chase to release his email [2] which was written while he was an active Arb. He resigned in the mean time for reasons unrelated to the Mbz1 affair. (I think it's because of his WMUK appointment.) ASCIIn2Bme 16:02, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
