Wikipedia Library User Group is being renamed![edit]

Hello! In the past few months, the Wikipedia Library User Group has been undergoing some major planning and developments. We just finished our very first open call with the user group members, which was a great success (see the meeting minutes). If you joined us during the meeting, we’d like to thank you for your interest. If not, not to worry, we have lots of things planned for the user group in which you can participate.

This message is to inform you that based on the input received from the user group members and the founding members, it was agreed that the Wikipedia Library User Group’s name be reconsidered by a voting process. As a valued member of the user group, we’d like to invite you to vote on the list of potential names. You can vote by following this link. The poll will run for a timeframe of two weeks. This position should attract Wikipedians and librarians with dedication and time to lead the user group in its first year. The elections will happen following the nominations phase starting from 10 January 2018 to 23 January 2018. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact WikiLibraryUG [at] googlegroups [dot] com. A message will be sent shortly before the dates linking to the venue for nominations and election. Thank you! On behalf of the user group founding members--MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 04:40, 13 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

OUP - access to Who's Who[edit]

Hi Cameron. I'm wondering if it's possible to access Who's Who through the Wikipedia Library. It's published by the OUP (got your name from the Library page for them) but looking at the three collections they offer I get the impression that it's not included, which would be a shame. It came up for me most recently last night writing John Chalstrey (Lord Mayor of London 1996-7). Do let me know if you're the wrong person to ask. Mortee (talk) 12:41, 23 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimedia and Libraries User Group Steering Committee Election Results[edit]

Hello everyone! The steering committee election for the Wikimedia and Libraries User Group is finally over and the results you were patiently awaiting for is here! We had many great candidates with awesome skillsets and experience, unfortunately not everyone could make it to the final eight. We are grateful to all the candidates for stepping up and boldly throwing their hat in the ring. It was a difficult choice and they made it. Now, the results. The candidates who made it to the final eight are,

On behalf of the founding members, the TWL team and the user group members, we congratulate the candidates on their successful run and welcome them to the committee. The steering committee and the founding members will soon meet to discuss the handover and next steps of the user group. Newspapers.com renewal[edit]

Hello, I tried to request renewal of my Newspapers.com subscription by clicking "Renew" while logged in here, but I received the error message "This object cannot be renewed. (This probably means that you have already requested that it be renewed.)" I seem to remember that this was a problem when requesting renewal last year. Can you help? Or has the renewal request already been made? Thank you. Doremo (talk) 10:12, 30 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Doremo: I think I know why this might be, and it would be a Library Card bug. Could you instead go to your user page (click your username in the top left while on the tool), and click Renew next to your application? :) Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 14:33, 30 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Newspapers.com Publisher Extra[edit]

Hi, thanks for approving my access to Newspapers.com. I just logged in and I'm noticing something odd and was wondering if you could help. The way Wikipedia Library describes it in the description: "Free accounts through the Wikipedia Library include access to Newspapers.com Publisher Extra content," but when I seem to have been upgraded to "Complimentary Newspapers.com Basic Subscription" and cannot open any newspapers that are Publisher Extra (which is unfortunately most of the better ones). They want me to pay $140 to unlock that additional access. Has the nature of their offer with Wikimedia changed, or is there something I've missed? Thanks again for your help; I really appreciate it. Politely asking you ...[edit]

... to proof the statement Clearly not here to contribute to building any community. Yes, I made all wrong in deWP (I admit that). But please give me just one example of my anti-social behaviour in enWP.--Meister und Margarita (talk) 20:41, 6 June 2019 (UTC) (I admitted already that it was wrong to discuss German matters in English wikipedia, i.e. wrong place, wrong language. I stated that I regret that and that I would never do it again.)[reply]

@Meister und Margarita: Your block log with personal attacks redacted by use of oversight is a pretty bright line piece of evidence. Then your talk page access being revoked for further issues is also pretty glaring evidence. Unless you are insinuating DeltaQuad was abusive in her oversight block which I find unlikely as they are a pretty level headed individual. But you did do it again through sock puppetry... a spade is a spade and in this case I'm not sure how you can expect anyone to believe you wouldn't do it again after calling someone a "virtual rapist" is beyond me. --Cameron11598 (talk) 20:47, 6 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think, that DeltaQuad know what she did. Her German is def. not perfect and she was mislead by CorrectHorse, now SenseAmid. I was not asked, I did not have a chance to defend myself. I did not have the chance to excuse myself. She did not even send me the text (although I requested for it politely). Ok, all this might be within the standards of understanding and misunderstanding. What I do not accept: DQ and the ArbComm refuse to have a second look at the whole affair. I do think that this block is utterly unfair and even more unfair is the refusal to have a look at it. Calling me a virtual rapist would be a good reason for a global ban if it came out of my mouth ... You guys dont know the difference between right and wrong any longer.--Meister und Margarita (talk) 21:16, 6 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Newspapers.com renewal request, please[edit]

Greetings Cameron11598, I am requesting a renewal library card for Newspapers.com, my subscription has expired. I use this resource extensively, esp. for BLP's of women whose primary career activity occurred before the digital age. Access last year was a tremendous tool for editing wikipedia and creating/improving articles. I've been a wikipedian for 7 years on EnWikipedia (you can check my user page on the encyclopedia - I don't know how to link it here.) Thank you! Netherzone (talk) 16:39, 15 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Please check my renewal as well. My subscription expired at a very unfortunate time. I am in the middle of a major project goal. Coffeeandcrumbs (talk) 04:18, 29 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Netherzone and Coffeeandcrumbs: Can you verify your accounts have been renewed? Sorry I spent most of July & early August traveling and got a bit behind. In the future its probably better to reach out to me on my English Wikipedia Talk Page as thats where I'm most active. --Cameron11598 (talk) 22:04, 18 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I am all good on Newspapers front. Coffeeandcrumbs (talk) 22:14, 18 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, thank you Cameron11598 for the renewal. I appreciate it. Netherzone (talk) 23:09, 23 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Oxford Dictionary of National Biography[edit]

I already have access to the Oxford Journals collection. I work heavily with Biographies and have been coordinating On this day section of the w:en:Main Page recently. Would it be possible to add the Scholars collection to my library. It has become crucial to verifying birth dates. FYI, I was trying to figure out how to apply for additional collections and accidentally hit the "Renew" button for my Journals subscription which has not expired. So no need to renew Scholarsjournals collection. Coffeeandcrumbs (talk) 02:59, 17 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Coffeeandcrumbs: I'm a bit confused, What is it you need access to? You said you don't need journals renewed as it is still current, however you also say you don't need Scholarship renewed? Were you applying for the law collection then? --Cameron11598 (talk) 22:05, 18 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Oops, sorry. I need Scholars which I currently do not have. Coffeeandcrumbs (talk) 22:10, 18 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Coffeeandcrumbs: Please re-apply using the library card platform for Scholarship the only application I see is for journals (which I just declined since that isn't the one you need). I will gladly process your application with the next batch I do (waiting to hear back on the current batch still). --Cameron11598 (talk) 22:13, 18 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
When I go to the partner page, I only see a renew button. Is there a way to request more than one collection. Coffeeandcrumbs (talk) 22:20, 18 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Coffeeandcrumbs: from a test I just conducted I can't seem to select to apply for an additional resource afterwards. I'll email Sam and get him to take a look. --Cameron11598 (talk) 22:23, 18 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Any update on this. If necessary, I am willing to give up Journals collection if I can get Scholarship collection. Coffeeandcrumbs (talk) 18:30, 31 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Coffeeandcrumbs: Unfortunately this is a tough issue to unpack technically - in all honesty we made some design decisions that unfortunately now make it difficult to quickly fix the issue of getting access to multiple collections. Cameron - Since we're about to shift the way access to OUP works, I think you could just make a one-off request to OUP to give Coffeeandcrumbs access to both collections without worrying about how that works on the Library Card side of things. Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 10:46, 16 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Cameron. Is it possible to do what Samwalton9 describes? Coffeeandcrumbs (talk) 11:53, 1 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Just wanted to thank you for your assistance. I received access about a week ago. --Coffeeandcrumbs (talk) 09:02, 18 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Access to Oxford University Press[edit]

Greetings. In the library, one of the resources to which I have applied was Oxford University Press. Many of my other applications were approved, but OUP, which is actually my most needed resource, is still pending. I am currently trying to add some content to Aaron Burr, and access to ANB would be very useful as well as other OUP resources. Could you please take a look at it? @William2001: I've been in and out of the hospital the last few weeks and haven't had the energy to do much on Wikipedia the applications included. I'll try to handle this this week--Cameron11598 (talk) 23:46, 3 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the quick reply. I hope you get better soon. William2001 (talk) 23:48, 3 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Newspapers.com[edit]

Hiya. I've been reverted to "registered guest" status on Newspapers.com and would like to be renewed for that. Far and away the most valuable resource for content people out there. Thanks. --tim //// Carrite (talk) 02:55, 14 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

OTRS Permission Check[edit]

Hey Cameron11598, I saw you're one of our OTRS volunteers here. I need help about OTRS permission issue that recently happened. I uploaded media owned by "Cenan Çelik" and said him to send you a permission email directed to "permissions-commons@wikimedia.org." He said that he sent the email by using permission template but the files deleted for the reason of no OTRS for 30 days. Can you check the ticket for me? I'm a newbie here so thanks for your kind help and understanding. I hope we can fix this mistake. OTRS ticket:2020072110007261 --Palaangelino (talk) 18:21, 30 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
