Could someone tell me why I can't vote and why there's no real info (banner!) about the whole process in the Occitan Wikipedia, thank you!

Hello dear readers and fans! A new chapter (!) begins

Not that long ago, we had decided to create a Catalan chapter (Wikimedia CAT) but man we were really unlucky... it was thrown to our face (via Chapcom) that we couldn't do it because we don't have a state, and then even the Wikimedia Board blatantly ignored us except our beloved Founder... Holy cow, we were so disappointed that we began talking about it constantly with friends who were also really disappointed at once. Many of them thought and muttered lividly: "Could Wikimedia really favor borderlines?". The word gradually spread and discontent grew everywhere in the Catalan Countries but this psychological drama finally came to a drastic conclusion for many people: "Well if we need a state to have a chapter, then let's get a state!" Not too bad after! We would never have done it without you!

Thank you so much Wikimedia, and especially the two leading persons of Chapcom, you really made the world a better/greater/nobler place when you inspired the Catalan people to have a new state! "Catalunya, nou estat d'Europa!"

Older rambling about WikiSpain and WikiCat

Man, I hadn't been back here for ages, you know that's because of my seasonal migrations. But well, I know you people will like it, the most obnoxious bird of the Wikiverse is back and I am sure that you all missed me! During my last migration to strange, remote and warm lands I happened to stumble upon an old acquaintance of mine on the twiggy branches of a young but stout kapok tree, a small and colored bird named Woody (some of you may know him, he had a show of his own on TV before being replaced by Tom & Jerry or Scooby-Doo, don't remind too well...).

So we talked for a while about old good times, especially about how worms tasted before they used so much pesticide, when he suddenly told me, by happenstance, about an incredible piece of news my small ears could hardly believe and that had my beak quivering for hours. Rumor has it that Wikimedia Spain is willing to fund parts of the activities of different associations (they seem to have loads of money right now...), and one of these could be Wikimedia CAT, whooooops, sorry I meant Amical, which happens to be a good friend of theirs at the moment, in spite of the previous tensions and frictions (good forgiving souls!).

As I was giving it a good thought, reconsidering positively (for once) the deepest intricacies and subtleties of human nature and the inner riches and wisdom of mankind I had to leave my nest and Woody all of a sudden, since our tree was being cut (that's how deforestation works unfortunately taking our houses away... especially in the Rainforest) to be transformed into a more practical, proper and unavoidable use for the human species. I thus flied towards more friendly skies before finally arriving here.

I then pondered: "Man (I should say Bird actually but well...), I knew that the Spaniards are famed for their unique chivalric, Donquixotic deeds and attitude (especially the Castilians) in spite of what some people may accuse them for what they did in America, but I could have hardly imagined ever before that they had such a noble, honest, sincere and altruistic heart."

Could I have been wrong then all this time? No other option therefore left for me, but to admit that the most devoted and influent members of the Chapcom had made the right(est) decision. I thus congratulate them of their expert foreseeing since I thought they had hastily and prematurely guided/led the creation of the Spanish Chapter mainly, I imagined then, to thwart the birth of a Catalan one. It is way too obvious now that this was the soundest, most sensible, most sagacious and wisest decision then that the Chapcom made ever. Wikimedia Spain was, and still is, beyond the mere, and tiniest, figment of a shadow of a doubt a mature, skillful, experienced and accountable organization endowed or, let's daresay, gifted with the most honorable, trustworthy and reliable leadership.

Hi, sorry..., not much too say lately (just here for the stats...) but hey, it's always nice to see you passing by, spying on my words, I feel soooo important then!!!

My enormous doubts about the current attitudes in Wikipedias

Sorry to write here again, but well you know I am bound to be blocked for ages, centuries or probably milleniums... unless I apply for the next elections but well who knows I won't probably work for the Wikipedias any more when that moment comes... Anyway please don't cry for me, Meta is not the most important place on Wikiearth so, except for a few details (like helping new languages get out of the incubator and voting for some elections), I am not really vexed not to be able to write here... Just wanted to let you know a few things happening in an alternate reality right now... Well, I am afraid I won't be smiling much lately (unlike Achal I mean...) It seems like twisted winds of change are blowing on the wikimedia world... A few weeks ago, I was informed by a friend of mine that some kind of weird discussion was happening on the English wikipedia about whether the Dutch wikipedia was worthy or not to live because of the supposed poor quality of its contents. I then took a look there and I was utterly surprised to notice that the discussion reached such a density, when it seemed obvious to me that the editors there could not, or were not entitled to judge whether the Dutch wikipedia was fit or not to go on. It is way too clear that the decision belongs to its users and readers, not from outsiders; othewise the bigger wikipedias would decide the fate of any smaller wikipedias, and that would really be unfair... and not democratic at all... I think that we should advise, help, nurture the growth of the Wikipedias never act in such an invading way and personally I am really sorry to witness that many small wikipedias are experiencing such a real pain to live and grow and some of them do not work any more... unfortunately!

Today, I just witnessed another blating case of this "interventionism", rather some kind of takeover, a sorely ill-educated intervention actually. It happened in the Occitan wikipedia. Occitan is not really working well and the latest developments can cause a deeper wound to our crippled body... Yesterday some erasing procedures took place from a new and outside user, Midom (who could well be Domas Mituzas, a known person here I guess!) and it happened with an enormous lack of respect towards the work done by the Occitan user Boulaur (one of the most active contributors there...), and mostly towards the entire wikipedia and its users who had to witness the comments of such a witty troll (registered TM, Wikimedia Foundation): His greeting comment in his userpage is: "if you see me coming, run." which shows the real communicative approach... (escafar means erase)

What happened to the dump votes, did someone eat them?

• Has the Foundation lost the dump votes????, after waiting three more days to have the results, will we have to wait three years to get the dump votes? Is it this difficult to paste the results or is there something wrong about it???? Well, yep, we'll probably have to wait for centuries...

• I want to thank you all for your votes, especially the ones who voted me (feel free to contact me in the Occitan Wikiccionari, I will be glad to talk to you) and even the ones who voted against me (mainly the people in high places I guess...) since being a member of the Board right now would have been some kind of additional weight on my shoulders that I do not need now. • First of all, I want to apologize for greeting you in my talkpage (I also wish I could write this in your native language but well there is the problem with space and I am not omniscient yet...), I feel really bad about it, it goes against the basic rules of Mediterranean hospitality; but well, on the other hand I do not have any other choice since I have been blocked on Meta (on dubious charges and I am still waiting for investigation and/or trial (well I think it will not happen any time soon!), and then this is the only page that I can edit here.

I am 43, I am a teacher in Highschool, and I am really sorry for some but I am not Catalan... I am married to Inna, a Ukrainian lady (from the Odesa oblast) and we have two kids: Daniil (8 1/2 years) and Aitana (3 1/2 years).

• I was not that long ago member of the Catalan association Amical, which has done a really good job so far and whose president is Joan Gomà another candidate here. With Amical I organized a Viquitrobada (meeting) on minorized languages in Perpinyà/Perpignan where people from different wikipedias, languages and territories have been given the opportunity to share their experience and to think about solutions and associations. Some videos are available on YouTube and I apologize for not having downloaded everything there yet!

Thanks for the en wp posting - I tend to stay away from there and I am here a fair bit tho more on Commons.

The saying. I've been around a while - I think I am right in saying it was a usenet signature back in the old days though I could be wrong but it is quite good :).

Catalan chapter. I try and avoid politics! I know it is not quite the same thing but there are wikis in many languages where there is no recognised country - why should there not be a chapter? Philosophically I've never really understood the idea that politicians and map makers draw a line on the map and people will be happy to be on one side or the other of that line - it is an odd approach.

I have no idea what I might do but I'll watch and learn and listen (& will be in the catalan area a little later this year :)). Regards --Herby ^{talk thyme} 13:20, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

Currently, the appeals from Wikipedia editors Kartika, Liliaroja, Abbas and Joan Gomà need to be translated and localized. Also some core messages need to be updated for certain languages. I just wanted to publicly thank Samuel Klein for bringing me back from the dead users (it takes a lot of magic and willpower...) even if I preferred to have an investigation about the charges I was accused of... (maybe some day...), the steward DerHexer who did not erase my last message when I asked for an investigation, unlike another administrator, and Herbythyme (I didn't know, or remember, you were an administrator here...) because I think you both are fair bureaucrats and I know there are many others (but well I don't know them by now)... By the way I totally agree with Herbythyme's opinion that if you don't use your rights for 3 months those should be removed and this power should be given to someone else. As an arachnid friend of mine would say "with great power comes great responsibility", but not the other way round you don't take responsibilities to wield great power... Best wishes! Sorry if I disappoint you, but there was no action from above which have made me change my mind, and not even Jimbo Wales would be able to make some pressure on me and let me handle this way down. I would like to point out, that Wikimedia is not a democracy and every project has it own rules. As i wrote above, I agree with Millosh that it is not fair to have an blocked board candidate here on meta (which can´t even respond to the questions). The only reason I´ve blocked you was the way you´ve acted in the past as i blocked you. Even if I would agree with some points of your matter, I would block you again if there will be the same case of posting of privat correspodence. This have nothing to do with Wikimedia as its own, but with privat correspodence which is not provided to become public. Just to point out, and perhaps to help you in coming ellection: such arrogance in answering could be negative and have broke some necks on other ellections. And to come to my dyslexia: I know what about we are talking, and know well the diference between those two. Your behavior in the whole case is not realy calming of the situation. You are showing a behavior, which could lead those people who would like to support you to change their mind. Just as information: your block is lifted until the ellection is done, and will be extended then. In case of your ellection to the board, in my eyes this will be a sensation, I will let other sysops and stews decide to lift your block. I can´t see any benefit for project to let someone like you work here (as i can see there are not realy worth contributions from your side), and the sysop community has enough others to care about. Man, I am not blocking anyone nor have I ever blocked anyone, so tell me I am the arrogant one... I am still awaiting for a judgment from the community here in Meta and I am sure I never will get one, so where is the arrogance... On the other hand I know too well, you and your friends (especially the one who told you to take care of me and his friends) would never vote for me. And well you do not know me at all, I might be the only candidate who does not care much about being elected or not (I do not crave for power nor prestige, I just want truth to be heard even if I may be wrong but then I would apologize...). Jo no hi entenc de lleis però trobo absurd que se't bloquegi per haver reproduït una mail que el mateix que l'ha enviat ha fet públic a la seva pròpia llista de correu abans que tu i el que l'ha rebut ha fet un enllaç públic abans que tu a la llista pública del que l'ha enviat. Potser haurien de treure el cap del GNU de la portada de la seva llista: [5].

No cal dir que té la seva gràcia que al peu del mail posin que no es pot reproduir i que ells mateixos el publiquin en una llista amb llicència GNU.

Ara, el que trobo molt greu, és la dinàmica dels administradors aquí a meta prenent decisions pel seu compte sense comentar-ho amb l'afectat ni amb la comunitat ni amb els possibles perjudicats. A la Viquipèdia en català això no hauria passat mai. I el més greu és que aquests administradors puguin bloquejar-te a la viquipèdia en català en contra de la voluntat de la comunitat d'autors de la Viquipèdia en català.

Realment cal una regeneració de tot plegat.

Long story short, we're just a few hours into the election, the groundwork is just being made, my guide has disclaimers all over it that it's under revision, and I've added more disclaimers to the specific portion that discusses you. I've basically known where I stood on Kat, SJ, and Milosh for many years now. I've known where I stood on Ting for about a year now. For everyone else, it's going to take a lot of work and discussion in the community for me to get a sense of them.

Try to get a discussion going about the election. If you get everyone talking about you and the candidates in a centralized place, the 'wisdom of the crowds' will make it easier for us to make accurate assessments. --Alecmconroy 09:26, 29 May 2011 (UTC)

Help compile Objective Data about the Candidates

Posted to all candidates talk page:

To aid in the fair evaluation of all the candidates, especially those not active on EnWiki, verifiable data about the candidates is being compiled. Anyone is invited to help compile the data since it is all publicly available on-wiki.

But since the people best qualified to help are the candidates themselves, it seems reasonable to ask:

• Which languages do you speak? (voter statement)
• Which projects do you contribute to?
  • For each, when was your first edit?
  • For each, how many total edits? (exact figures not need)
• Which projects are you an admin on?
• Are you a bureaucrat? which projects? when?
• Are you a CheckUser? Which projects? When did you start??
• Are you a steward? If so when were you made one?
• Have you served in a verifiable leadership role on a project? (e.g. Like EnWiki's Founder or Arbcom member)
• Have you served in a verifiable leadership role on at the Chapter or Foundation level? (Trustee, etc)

Are there any objectively verifiable facts that should be included in this guide but aren't?

You removed some of my translations on Board elections/2011/Candidates/ca, not only the one about yourself. And even that one sounds a bit strange (Do you *really* want to write those 5 first statements in 2nd person singular? Who's that person? The reader? Shouldn't you put a question mark then instead of just putting words in the reader's mouth)... But anyway, as you are the candidate that's your business. Dear Capsot,

You have helped us in previous years with translations and for that we are most grateful. Now we turn towards the 2011/12 fundraiser. It may seem forever away, but work has already begun getting everything ready to go. This year we want to have landing pages covering as many countries in as many languages as possible.

Right now, we want to figure out who is interested in translating for the fundraiser. This year we're hoping to have more of a solidified "core" group of translators that we can count on to have work done by a few key dates, but we'd also welcome help from people who are willing to just help out when they can.

Hi,

Well, I am really sorry; first because I can't answer on your userpage so I hope you'll happen to notice my message some day before next millenium and then because I have lost faith in Wikimedia and won't help translating/raising money to some mysterious and unknown ends aside for computers and staff... I am sure that a lot of nice, decent and honest people are working to make things better in Wikimedia but I have also noticed that some of them are taking advantages of some funds/grants.

You see it seems to me that once you've gained some entrance/popularity/authority in the Wikimedia structure, things coming from you are easily accepted and the use of money spent/reports/goals achieved hardly checked.

That is, in brief: there is a different measure in analysing/accepting projects between known people and unknown people (especially if they are coming from less privileged/developing countries...) but well I may be wrong and slightly paranoid... Not to mention the special care in avoiding the acceptance of a Catalan Thorg/Chapter or whatever... sorry but I can hardly understand this... Hardly devoted and working people are not accepted and dormant/sleepy/amorphous (and inefficient/suspicious) chapters do not have any problems or are not questioned, amazingly funny!

However I wish you the best of luck, I am sure you will find a French contributor willing to do this (they do have a chapter and many employees there, sure they can help in their spare time...). Take care, Claudi/Capsot (talk) 09:21, 26 March 2013 (UTC)

There's no way to let you edit "just through IP addresses". Either your account is unblocked (and you can edit Meta Wiki for both official and non-official purposes), or your account stays blocked (and you cannot edit Meta Wiki). For unblocking your account, there needs to be demonstrated understanding of what leaded to the block and why it shouldn't be a concern anymore.
