[edit] Agreement between chapters and Wikimedia Foundation

Hi! I was told by User:Str4nd that Icould contact you with a question about Agreement between chapters and Wikimedia Foundation.I'm the chair of Wikimedia Suomi/Wikimedia Finland and I would need to sign that agreement. Do you know if there is a PDF-version available of the document and who should I send it to once I have signed the agreement. Regards, Samulili 15:06, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

I'm not sure who to contact about this, actually – try asking Chapcom or Erik. Cbrown1023 talk 13:56, 12 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Centralnotice/ru

Casey, please, fix next messages:

Thank you :) Lvova 12:31, 12 November 2009 (UTC)

Yes check.svg Done, thanks. Cbrown1023 talk 13:57, 12 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Fundraising - Lower case problems in TR

Hi! I understand that the slogans are lowercased, but this creates some misspelling in Turkish. Fundraising 2009/core messages/tr is still uppercase but the slogans published on Vikipedi are lowercase, so I assume this change is done somewhere else. How can we correct the mistakes in lowercasing? Would it be enough if I lowercase the slogans in Fundraising 2009/core messages/tr and it is then re-published? Or I may give you a list of correctly spelled slogans? İyivikiler... homonihilis // ileti 10:17, 13 November 2009 (UTC)

Yes, please adjust them on that page if there are any issues. In a perfect world we would have updated that page, but there's been so many tweaks to the messages that there's been no time. :-( Cbrown1023 talk 21:23, 13 November 2009 (UTC)

Please accept my apologies if you took the "bullshit" for you. Nope, it is not oriented to you. But goodness... what a broken fundraiser. Anthere

It's okay, I understand and wasn't offended. Cbrown1023 talk 21:23, 13 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Swedish translations

Per habj in #wikimedia, I've changed the Swedish translations a bit for one of the banners (see here and here). I'm notifying you in case some translation page needs to be updated or something. --MZMcBride 17:05, 13 November 2009 (UTC)

Per Kaare in #wikimedia, just see my contribs in the MediaWiki namespace. --MZMcBride 17:16, 13 November 2009 (UTC)

Thanks, they should actually be updating the translation pages themselves and then asking us to sync their messages... but that's just how it should happen... Cbrown1023 talk 21:24, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
Posted at AZ about it earlier today (CET), but this one should probably be fixed as well - "probably" pending if it is used somewhere after a dot - if not it should definitely be all lowercase. Finn Rindahl 17:38, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
Looks like it's been done. Cbrown1023 talk 21:24, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
Nope, should be "for alltid", not "For alltid (unless it is used as a beginning of a sentence somewhere). Finn Rindahl 21:35, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
Oh, okay, done now. Cbrown1023 talk 21:38, 13 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Corrections

Please correct the following:

If they should be lower case then why they weren't lower case in the translation page? --Geraki TL 22:03, 13 November 2009 (UTC)

Done. They weren't lowercase on the translation page because we ended up lowercasing them all after we launched and then "un-launched". People really didn't like the capitalization so we get rid of it. Cbrown1023 talk 22:07, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
It's not simple for all languages :-) (in greek we never use punctuation in all-uppercase texts).
There is still some banner with "Για Παντα" text (no punctuation).
The bannner from el.wikipedia leads to the english donation page, although there is a greek one. What should be done?
--Geraki TL 09:19, 14 November 2009 (UTC)
I've fixed the link issue, please let me know if there's still a problem. What's the issue with the «"Για Παντα" text (no punctuation)»? Cbrown1023 talk 13:45, 14 November 2009 (UTC)
The link is OK now.
MediaWiki:Centralnotice-2009 Notice1-donate-text2/el, MediaWiki:Centralnotice-2009 Notice1 test-donate-text2/el and MediaWiki:Centralnotice-2009 Notice1 b-donate-text2/el should be "Για Πάντα" as in the correction you made above. --Geraki TL 15:14, 14 November 2009 (UTC)
Okay, should be good now. Cbrown1023 talk 15:18, 14 November 2009 (UTC)
I'm sorry but it still appears, it seems that you missed MediaWiki:Centralnotice-2009 Notice1 b-donate-text2/el. --Geraki TL 19:08, 14 November 2009 (UTC)
Okay, now it's good. ;-) Cbrown1023 talk 19:28, 14 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Button target

Button "Donate" (donacu) in sitenotice in eo:wp opens support page in French ( http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Global_Support/fr )instead in Esperanto ( http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Monkolektado ). I don't wher to correct that. Could you do it ? Thx Arno Lagrange  12:13, 14 November 2009 (UTC)

That's because you're in France and get sent to the WMFR chapter page. If you weren't in France, you'd get to sent to the Esperanto page. If you had an American IP (i.e. 74.103.170.47, you'd get sent to the eo page properly. Cbrown1023 talk 13:38, 14 November 2009 (UTC)
OK Thx Arno Lagrange  18:12, 14 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Paypal redirectpage /nb

Hi, http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Special:ContributionTracking/nb (link doesn't work, but that's where my browser told me I was) now reads "Om du ikke omdirigeres automatsik, klikk på knappen for å gjennomføre donasjonen hos PayPal. " - this should be "Om du ikke omdirigeres automatisk, klikk på knappen for å gjennomføre donasjonen hos PayPal.", i.e. automatisk instead of automatsik. This is the page that redirects you when you're trying to give through PayPal, couldn't figure out where the source for that page was... Regards, Finn Rindahl 12:38, 14 November 2009 (UTC)

Hey Finn, this is one of the things we're translating on Translatewiki (it's a MediaWiki extension). It looks like the Translatewiki team did something with the extension names... I don't know where that string is now, I'm asking. Cbrown1023 talk 13:55, 14 November 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, found it and have fixed. Finn Rindahl 14:16, 14 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Fundraising 2009/core messages/he

Hi, can you please update the messages? Thanks, Yonidebest 16:00, 14 November 2009 (UTC)

Hmm, also, I couldn't find where I change the current notice with the logo. It currently reads:

ויקיפדיה LOGO לנצח

while it should read:

ויקיפדיה LOGO למען הדורות הבאים

Thanks, Yonidebest 16:05, 14 November 2009 (UTC)
I appologize. There seems to be a problem with user:Drork who reverted my changes not in accordence to clear consensus on he.wikipedia. I have notified the he.wikipedia community of his actions and they will decide what to do about it. Please don't change the he.wiki messages until this is decided. Thanks, Yonidebest 18:02, 14 November 2009 (UTC)
These slogans have already been published. It is not the best practice to change a campaign's slogans after publishing them, even if they are not perfect. The translations were made by at least three native HE speakers who live in Israel. They were criticized on he-wp, but without a decisive suggestion for an alternative. I think it is irresponsible for anyone to introduce a change "out of the sleeve". Dror_K 18:14, 14 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Fundraising 2009/core messages/als

Hi Cbrown

I've added the link to this translation today in Template:Translation/Fundraising 2009/core messages today morning, but still it's not published. Did I forget anything? Thanks, --Strommops ð 21:52, 14 November 2009 (UTC)

Nope, you didn't do anything wrong. Sorry it's taking a while, but we're working through them as fast as we can. Some people have been waiting for days – don't worry, we'll get to als soon. :-) Cbrown1023 talk 21:56, 14 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] mk translation needs updating

Hello. Although the mk translation is already published, I noticed that some things weren't translated, so I finished them, and it needs updating. This is the page: Fundraising 2009/core messages/mk. Thanks a lot! --B. Jankuloski 00:37, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

Could you also tell me where I can find this "To give using IE6 or last year's form, please click here." - I can't find where to translate it, so it remains untranslated on the mk version. --B. Jankuloski 01:00, 15 November 2009 (UTC)
It's going to be on the missing strings request, however you can translate it now if you like – just put it on my talk page. Cbrown1023 talk 22:21, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Hebrew core messages again

Hi there,

Please my message to you on Talk:Fundraising_2009/core_messages/he. It's all expressed there. I have sound reasons to believe I represent the consensus opinion of our community. Please respond to my request ASAP. Harel 17:43, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

Done. Cbrown1023 talk 22:38, 15 November 2009 (UTC)
Thank you. Can you remove the colon ":" in the following row:
Instead of:
ויקיפדיה: LOGO למען העתיד
Should be:
ויקיפדיה LOGO למען העתיד
If there is no logo between the words, then the colon should stay there, otherwise it should be removed. Thanks, Yonidebest 06:00, 16 November 2009 (UTC)
Yes check.svg Done. --Az1568 (talk) 06:53, 16 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] La.wiki messages

Please see Talk:Fundraising 2009/core messages/la‎--Rafaelgarcia 01:55, 16 November 2009 (UTC)
Dear Chris, fellow user Neander completed all of the latin translations. Would you please publish them, please? Thanks--Rafaelgarcia 15:54, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
Dear Chris, It seems that we are still getting some english titles across the top of our la.wiki pages: e.g. "Number of Wikipedia articles (in millions)." I see this even if I completely clear out my cache in firefox.--130.215.96.89 18:29, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
Should be fixed now. Cbrown1023 talk 23:06, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
Dear Chris, I apologize for bugging you again, but we noticed that our la.wiki only says "ready" instead of "published" and at the same time; the donation page remains in english. It would not bother me except that our Neander did put a lot of sweat into translating everything and after all that effort, it pains me that his excellent translations aren't being used. --Rafaelgarcia 22:59, 20 November 2009 (UTC)
Sorry for this taking a while, I'm publishing translations every spare minute I have (for example, I did one minutes before running out the door for the airport). I totally feel the same way about the pain – it pains me too. I'm publishing it now. Cbrown1023 talk 00:13, 22 November 2009 (UTC)
Done, the notices should now point to wmf:Support Wikipedia/la and wmf:Support Wikipedia2/la. Sorry again for this not being done as quickly as it should have been. Cbrown1023 talk 00:49, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Updating mediawiki, you fix?

I tried to make some updated citenotices in Swedish and Norwegian,[1] but evidently I must have done it wrong since I simply edited the mediawikimessages. You fix? Finn Rindahl 18:17, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

Hmm, now it's working - did I do something right after all or have you fixed something somewhere? Finn Rindahl 22:04, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
It should still work if you edit the MediaWiki messages, it's just not as cleaner. The Special:NoticeTemplate interface just makes things easier. :-) Cbrown1023 talk 01:14, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
Please be careful when changing any settings for a running notice. We should simply be adding translations and validating them in the preview. There is no need to change the language on the notice itself. Tfinc 09:09, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] MediaWiki

Hi there! I saw that you recreated this MediaWiki page. I deleted it per the talk page request see here. Perhaps you delete it? Kind regards --Barras 13:09, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

This is the reason that people aren't supposed to comment on random MediaWiki talk pages... the messages don't get seen and are all spread out. Toliño needs to update Fundraising 2009/core messages/gl with the proper text. It would also never say "A Meta" in a CentralNotice... which is another reason why looking at the MediaWiki messages themselves are bad. When the notice is displayed on Wikipedia, it will look like this. Cbrown1023 talk 23:02, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the info. --Barras 14:26, 19 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Fundraiser 2009 Upper Sorbian (hsb) and Lower Sorbian (dsb)

Hi Casey. I want to ask you when the core messages for fundraiser 2009 for hsb and dsb will complete. Centralnotice works for both languages but only the text. The links to wikimediafoundation.org are not correct. For Upper Sorbian WP a link target is used that doesn't exist and Lower Sorbian is using German WMF page]. Although the link target for hsb doesn't exist, a hsb WMF page does exist. But with some English words. For dsb such a WMF page doesn't exist, it is used, as already said, the German page instead. Dsb is not marked as published yet, although I've already marked it as ready on 2009/11/15. But the centralnotice works for dsb as well. The strings for the Donation extension have been translated on translatewiki.net for both languages. Kind regards, --Michawiki 10:43, 19 November 2009 (UTC)

First of all, sorry for the delay. I'm glad to hear that the CentralNotice works fine for both languages — that was our first priority for all languages (it would be horrible to have you translate everything and then confront visitors to your wiki with English banners on all pages). I just published dsb, so everything should be good there. Hmm, the hsb issue was strange but should be fixed now. About the English words, we're going to create a new request for the phrases that were missing when things settle down.
Finally, about the Global Support page, that's because you live in Germany (or at least have a German IP) and get sent to the Wikimedia Germany page. For me, the page links correctly to hsb.
I hope this helps and sorry again for the delay! Cbrown1023 talk 23:45, 19 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Fundraising 2008 messages

Regardign Estonian translation. Though translation request for these is closed, I see some of it being used in this year's fundraising and both, "alternative form" and wmf:Annetused, link to last year's pages. I've found a few language mistakes in core messages of 2008 and would appreciate these corrections being published if possible. Thanks! Pikne 11:00, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

Besides, letter 'K' is missing here and here. Should be "Küsimusi või kommentaare". Pikne 12:36, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

Should be done, thanks for your translation help! Cbrown1023 talk 21:51, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
Thanks a lot! Tiny little addition: please replace line 26 too. Pikne 22:04, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
Done. Cbrown1023 talk 22:18, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
