User talk:Hashar

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

I do read this talkpage.

You are most welcome...I used to be Chief Copyeditor for Nupedia, and try to respond to any such request. Your English is pretty good, as it is. But, yes, you do need to have someone review your written English.

LanguageRu[edit]

Greetings Ashar, I am Ramir, a sysop at Russian Wikipedia (and other Wiki***). Angela referred to you as a helpful developer. That is what I need, as I have been editing the Russian Language-files for a long time, and asking (at the requests page) to update the file. But nobody has done it for the past... more than a year. I didn't want to bother anyone in person, but now, apparently, I have to. Our sysops have started to edit the MediaWiki namespace to fill the gaps, but I understand that this is not the way localization should be done (and it only affects one project, while we want all the others to be localized too). Now, if you be so kind to spend a couple of minutes on this little task (updating the LanguageRu.php file, and oh, by the way, installing the newly made LanguageWikibooksRU.php), I would be very grateful :-). Note, however (as I said on the requests page), that I changed the namespace names. This is a necessary and, I promise, the last, change made to them. I very much hope that the engine has some sort of update function to replace the namespaces on all the links on all the pages with the new ones. If it doesn't... then please do not install those changes and tell me, because we just won't be able to fix everything manually. On my Russian Wikipedians' part, I promise to avoid localization through MediaWiki: namespace as much as it will make sense (I can even clean the already done ones).

Another question is: can we possibly change the site's encoding from Unicode to Windows-1251? It will then be twice as small. I am ready to to the preparations, but just don't know how the engine deals with encodings and all that.

Another, a rather bold, question: Is it in any way possible to allow me to edit the Russian language files and install them? I want to do this because there are many starting Russian-language Wikiprojects (like Wikibooks, Wikiquote, etc), and they all need l10n. I know how to program in general and PHP in particular. Certainly, I do not need access to any other insides of Wikimedia's projects, just the Russian locales. Will making a FTP account for me and setting permissions be enough for that? I have contributed (wasted) a lot of time on Russian Wikipedia, especially the technical tasks, so it is very unlikely that I have a malicious intent of vandalising anything. That is all. Happy Christmas and Merry New Year. Ramir 08:20, 26 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Breton wiki[edit]

--Fulup 12:55, 3 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Unprotect?[edit]

This page has been protected for one year now: Eliminating index.php from the url can you unprotect it. I am a newb and it is very user unfriendly, and I would like to make it easier to read. Odessaukrain 23:38, 1 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your reply. As these images were uploaded before Wikimedia started using cc-by-sa-3.0, one way to somewhat allow commercial usage with a lot of formalities is to add GFDL to the licensing, as combining GFDL and cc-by-nc-sa-2.0 is acceptable before and after Wikimedia started using cc-by-sa-3.0.Jusjih 16:00, 12 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You are welcome and thanks for your licensing.--Jusjih 14:42, 22 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Localisation update reverts[edit]

I've not reverted all the updates, just those which contained deleted translations. The bot doesn't export deletions, so we have to merge patches for the purpose. --Nemo 12:15, 19 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
