The fundraiser was the best we ever had, both in terms of the amount we collected and in terms of number of translations. Request for input on Wikipedia video project[edit]

Hello, I have completed an outline of the material that may be covered in the modules on this page.

Please note that not everyone will view every section. For example, some people may want to view only the modules that apply to Wikipedia, and others may be interested in the modules that apply to Commons.

Also, different language Wikipedias sometimes work differently. I am referring to English Wikipedia in the outline. One of the goals of the video series is to make the videos in a way that is easy to translate to other languages. One possible option is that for references to English Wikipedia which have no similarities on a Wikipedia of a different language, the portion of the video that is unnecessary can be removed from the translated version of the video. Also, members of different language communities may produce additional materials which they may add to the videos for their language, or the community members may replace portions of the English-language video with different information that is more applicable to Wikipedia in a different language.

WikiConference India 2016 updates[edit]

Hi,

Thanks for signing up as a volunteer for WikiConference India 2016 (WCI 2016). Here are some updates regarding the event:

WCI 2016 will take place on 5th, 6th, and 7th of August 2016 at Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Landran (Mohali). Please save these dates. We will open conference registration soon.

PEG request for WCI 2016 has been approved. We appreciate WMF PEG team's support and decision in facilitating this. We thank all community members who endorsed and contributed to this initiative. We are excited and look forward to an intensive month planning and executing WCI 2016.

Phase 1 filtering of scholarship applications has been done. Among 450+ applications, 200+ applications have been shortlisted for final review. We are expecting to announce the results by July first week.

WCI 2016 Call for Participation is open now. Please submit your proposals for paper presentations, lightning talks, and workshops.

Please take WCI 2016 Program Survey and help us design the conference based on community's needs.

Please initiate and participate in the Punjab edit-a-thon. It is a gift from all Indian language communities for the Punjabi community which is hosting the conference. The community that adds most number of bytes or words will be awarded a trophy.

2016 Community Wishlist Survey[edit]

Maithili Wikimedians Mission 10[edit]

Did you know...?
Maithili Wikimedians volunteer members has taken a challenge in itself i.e. Mission 10. The focus and aim of the challenge is to complete 10,000 articles on Maithili Wikipedia before the end of this year 2016. As of November 30, 5,555 articles were made on Maithili Wikipedia. From the 1^st of December until the 31^st of December the challenge will run on Maithili Wikipedia. The challenge is divided on 2 basic parts Online and Offline events. The online event is focused on creating articles and offline parts is about meeting with Maithili speakers from different parts of Nepal. Update regarding Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons tutorial videos[edit]

Hello,

I regret to inform you that the series of motivational and educational videos project, which had been planned introduce Wikipedia and some of its sister projects to new contributors, is being discontinued.

There are multiple factors that have led to this decision. The initial budget and time estimates were far too small for a project of this scale and complexity. Also, my simultaneous involvement in Cascadia Wikimedians User Group was problematic due to the shortage of human resources for the user group, which resulted in my spending far more time trying to help the user group than I had planned, so my time and attention were diverted from this video project to assisting the user group.

You can find more information in the final report for the grant.

I regret that this project did not fulfill the hopes that many of us had for it, and I hope that in the future someone with the necessary resources will choose to resume work on it or a similar project. If you are interested in working on this or a similar project then please contact the WMF grants team.

On a personal note, I am retiring from the Wikimedia community. Perhaps I will return someday.

Community Wishlist Survey 2020 needs translations[edit]

Hello!

I'm contacting you because you've already translated some messages for the Community Wishlist Survey. We need more translations for the 2020 edition, to create a survey that would serve as many users as we know.

The list below shows our needs by order of importance (most important first):

The invitation sent to communities. It summarizes the process. We plan to distribute it soon on this year target wikis. The more translations we have, the better!
The form for non-English speakers. Anyone should be able to add their wish, no matter which language they speak. Translating this short form is very important to encourage diversity and equity.
The survey itself, where the entire process is described.
The preload form, that provides more context on existing wishes.

Some languages are already covered (maybe by you), but some messages have been updated, and there is always some room for reviewing and polishing messages.

TwitterToCommons enhancement[edit]

Hello,

I am really pleased to see the tool twitterToCommons. I am using it and must say it is helpful. I would like to ask for a feature that i think will be very helpful. It would be nice to be able to filter the tweets based on date (or other criteria). If that is not possible or easy to do , an ability to paste a direct tweet URL in the tool would be great help.

@Psanu Glad to know that you are using this tool. I will create a feature where you can directly paste a link of the tweet and upload. I think that will be helpful for others who want to upload from a single tweeet.
