Northern Sotho

This is a letter that I have sent to a number of people requesting assistance to develop the Northern Sotho wikipedia. I notice that you have already contributed to it. I did not know your email address and that is why I am using this method to communicate with you.

Regards

Phillip Pare

[edit] Languages

Hi! About these words you have obtained for quite a few languages – I suggest you get in touch with Gangleri, and become sysop on Betawiki. That way you can add translations for numerous languages, and it will be to help for all projects in that language, not only the Wikipedia. I think this would be more practical for you as well, so you don't have to request sysop access all the time. Jon Harald Søby 08:52, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

I will contact him as soon as I have time. --Jose77 22:04, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thank you

Thank you for your support for the future bel.wikipedia.org

[edit] Re: Adminship on Uyghur Wikipedia

I understand. I have just finished purging ie, and will begin with ug later. Also, I left a note on Barat's user talk page to see if he has permission to copy the information (which I really doubt). Unfortunately, both candidates for adminship are not suitable for the task (one commits copyright violation, another is not interested in editing). The thing I still find curious is that Barat started contributing some 12 hours after you were told to tell Kiyim Kemal to contribute more in order to gain adminship. That is what made me think you knew (or even were) Barat, because it was just too strange. -- ReyBrujo 23:24, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

Hi and thanks for your vote of support on the soon to be Rotuman Wikipedia. Wikipedia is such an immense tool and to have it in this shrinking language will be important for it's modern age revival, so thanks for identifying the value of this project. All the best --Mattbray 12:47, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Uyghur Wikipedia

Hi Kylu,

When you placed this comment "4/1 local election", does it mean that Barat's request does not meet the criteria for temporary sysop?

Regards, --Jose77 23:17, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

Nope, the Stewards have to make that call. I'm simply stating the results found on the election page. 80% approval, though, is higher than required on most wikis. ~Kylu (u|t) 03:31, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

Yes, it is true that virtually every young person can speak and read English. So are other culturally diverse countries such as India. However, there is a growing awareness in the use of the vernacular languages. Yes, it is also true that America did influenced the Philippines, however the Filipinos themselves speak a distinct form of English, Philippine English, compared to the American English. English is widely used in institutions such as schools, mainly as a medium of instruction. However, the vernacular languages still play an important role in day to day life of Filipinos - conversations, text messaging, forum posting, chat, etc. are still widely carried on using the various vernacular languages of the Philippines. Being an independent nation, the Philippines is advocating the use of the vernacular languages aside from the nation language (Filipino/Tagalog), as people associate and identify themselves more to their localities. As such, cultivating nationalism in the local level is essential in forming nationalism in the national level, especially in uniting the diverse Philippine ethno-linguistics. Gaining awareness of the local identity helps people to see further the similarities that they have with one another and thus, realizing that they belong and comprise to the constructed image of a Philippine Nation. (Spain colonized the Philippines for 330 years, before that no such Philippine Nation exist, there are only fragmented 'nations' of various ethno-linguistic groups.)

With the noble contribution of Wikipedia, the FREE ENCYLOPEDIA, of contributing to the cultural welfare of the Karay-a people in mind, I believe that this project will be very useful and beneficial, especially to the thousands of Karay-a internet users around the world

[edit] Problem with Korean Hanja Wikipeida

Hello. Thank you for support Korean Hanja Wikipeida. But we have problem with this Wikipedia. I tried to persuade language subcommittees since June 2007, but they are very negative about this Wikipedia. Even thought they avoid to discuss about this issue. If you have interest about this issue, click here, and please give your opinion. --Masoris 14:00, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

I'm affraid this one will never get a real Wikipedia, no ISO code.. --OosWesThoesBes 08:28, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
The ISO for Hanja Wikipedia has already been decided upon by group consensus. It is ko-hani.
Also, the ISO code issue is only a guideline and hence ought to be decided on a case-by-case basis. Wikipedia language editions such as zh-classical.wikipedia.org and be-x-old.wikipedia.org were never proper ISO codes either.
Besides, there are still hundreds of living languages today which have not yet been recognised, identified or assigned "official" ISO codes yet. --Jose77 07:31, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

--Symane 15:27, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] ISO for teochew - good move - keep us informed

The ISO application is a good move[1]. Please keep Meta participants informed. Hillgentleman 07:02, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Yes, however it is up the Teochew community to submit the two request forms because they can provide the best argument and reasoning. --Jose77 07:20, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
