[edit] Spam entry
Hello Julian- I am not sure if this is were I should be writting this, but I wanted to contact you about a recent administrative decision you made based on a bot report.
This regarded an addition of an external link on a set of pages (English and French) that are all related to the same actual public event (Les Bal des Debutantes, held at the Crillon hotel in Paris, and hosted by the Sternlicht borhters who own Starwood Capital which owns the hotel. It happens that there were 5 sites because these pages are in English and French, and their focus is either from the basis of the hotel, or from the event itself, but the event is covered in all of them. so the external link was appropriate on each.
I understand why the BOT chose to report the activity, but if you actually research the situation, you will see that all five sites are directly related to each other. All five carry the link to the hotels site. It was not just some random connection of details to various wiki articles. The additional link, meets the criteria suggested as a guideline for external links... IE there is not a defacto ban on external links, the external links can be allowed if their provide an alternative view to the subject matter, and for content that may not be admissible, or freely shareable on wikipedia but may still be pertinent to the content.
The external link is NOT spam. The linked site, a non-profit, non-commercial site informing the readers more about the alternative viewpoints and information. It relates to the content directly so it is also not spam. Just as another link is provided to the website of the organizers that allows them to fully control their version of the event. All serve to inform the public in as balanced a way as possible.
I am not going to try to get in a battle with you to try to undo what you did. I am writting to request that you acknowledge this is not Spam, and that since the link is related to the wiki content of the page that you undo your own action. At least for the primary site of the Hotel du Crillon.
The only alternative, that is the only truly neutral alternative which maintains an acceptable stance under the rules of Wiki would be to completely delete a lot of the material(Example, if it is just a promotion place for the hotel, then only the hotel should be mentioned or described, but if it is a place to discuss history of the hotel, and some of its key events and associated personalities, then the correct way to show it would be in a balanced all encompassing and educational way). The additional link, simply compliments the information for those that do want to see research further. I hope you agree. Swrocket Additions in database of this link.

[edit] Congratulations, Dear Administrator!
Deutsch | English | Español | Français | Italiano | 한국어 | Nederlands | Português | Русский | edit
Juliancolton, congratulations! You now have the rights of administrator on Meta. Please take a moment to read the Meta:Administrators page and watchlist related pages (in particular Meta:Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat, and Meta:Requests for deletion, but also Talk:Spam blacklist and Talk:Interwiki map), before launching yourself into page deletions, page protections, account blockings, or modifications of protected pages. The majority of the actions of administrators can be reversed by the other admins, except for history merges which must thus be treated with particular care.
A tip: add this page Meta:Administrators' discussion index to your watchlist, it tracks the latest activity to various sections of many of the important pages.
Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikimedia-admin @ irc.freenode.net. You may find Commons:Guide to adminship to be useful reading although it doesn't always completely apply here at Meta.
Please also check or add your entry to Meta:Administrators#List_of_administrators and the Template:List of administrators.
