Mabuabsdd[edit]

[1] was abusively filed, without local discussion or information, no spamming involved, low level of cross-wiki problem. This is a family of users from a single elementary school, as you can easily see, they may be sharing the same computer in a class, and I have been managing their participation on Wikiversity, where they have been learning, besides wikitext, community norms and guidelines. Given the ages (probably seven or eight), communication has been slow, it takes time and is quite difficult to establish rapport with text.

Blocking them won't work without causing collateral damage and will require continual maintenance. They were, indeed, disruptive, but the disruption has slowed and communication had been opening up, as of yesterday. Mostly they had been respecting keeping their creative writing to user space. There was no problem needing blocking or locking at this point.

Please undo the global locks, unless you believe that policy requires them, in which case, let me know so that I can ask for 'crat action at Wikiversity to allow the education of these kids to continue. Thanks. --Abd 16:58, 10 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I filed NewPak2's SPI on English Wikipedia and had personally dealt with him on Simple Wikipedia. They impersonated a Wikinews admin as well as being disruptive elsewhere. I don't see how you can "educate" this sockpuppeteer. --Bsadowski1 05:52, 11 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
This is a group of kids at an elementary school. One or more. They do all kinds of crazy things, but they only have a few minutes at a time, I think, on a class computer, my guess. At one point an age was revealed. Seven years old. The writing is consistent with that. (I have a seven-year old girl.) Now, is it possible to educate a bright seven-year old? And how would you know? Wikiversity can handle this, there. I can understand that the kid or kids don't have much to offer at, say Wikipedia. But Wikiversity is about education, and can introduce kids to cooperating with the community, even if just to keep their creative writing in user space or under some class, not in mainspace. You will not improve the behavior of these kids with with the block tools, unless it's done very carefully. Yes, they "impersonated" an admin at Wikiversity too. If you count a seven-year old, pretending to be a cop, a "cop impersonator." --Abd 14:23, 11 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of user talk page content at Wikiversity[edit]

Why did you remove content from my user talk page at Wikiversity? Why did you provide no reason for removing the talk page content? Did you read the talk page content that you removed? Why did you not explain your action in the Wikiversity chat channel when I asked you about this? --JWSurf 17:05, 20 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

StewardScript[edit]

Hello Melos. I noticed you have StewardScript commented out in User:Melos/vector.js. I just rewrote StewardScript, so it's now compatible with the recent MediaWiki changes and has all the previous features (except instant checkuser, due to changes in MediaWiki's security). I updated the code in your JavaScript, so you just need to uncomment it if you're interested. —Pathoschild 00:04:38, 05 December 2011 (UTC)

Fundraising translation feedback[edit]

Hey Melos, I have a bit of a request to ask from you. We pulled down our banners nearly a fortnight ago for what was a highly successful international fundraiser and brought the curtain down on last years fundraiser. This week however we will be changing payment processors and during the testing of the new system it would be useful to use the time productively on on testing banner text.

To help us out with this I wonder if you would be willing to help us improve our italian text using This Link

Simply follow the simple instructions on that page and if you have any questions feel free to contact me on my talk page.

We are going to run the test on tuesday so if you dont see this message till 24 hours after it was sent you can ignore me :) Many Thanks though.

strange behaviour from an administrator[edit]

Salve Melos,

This is a message from the Wikimedia Foundation. Translations are available.

As you may know, the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees approved a new "Access to nonpublic information policy" on 25 April 2014 after a community consultation. The former policy has remained in place until the new policy could be implemented. That implementation work is now being done, and we are beginning the transition to the new policy.

An important part of that transition is helping volunteers like you sign the required confidentiality agreement. All Wikimedia volunteers with access to nonpublic information are required to sign this new agreement, and we have prepared some documentation to help you do so.

The Wikimedia Foundation is requiring that anyone with access to nonpublic information sign the new confidentiality agreement by 15 December 2015 (OTRS users have until 22 December 2015) to retain their access. You are receiving this email because you have access to nonpublic information and are required to sign the confidentiality agreement under the new policy.

Signing the confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information is conducted and tracked using Legalpad on Phabricator. The general confidentiality agreement is now ready, and the OTRS agreement will be ready after 22 September 2015. We have prepared a guide on Meta-Wiki to help you create your Phabricator account and sign the new agreement: Confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information/How to sign

If you have any questions or experience any problems while signing the new agreement, please visit this talk page or email me (gvarnum(_AT_)wikimedia.org). Again, please sign this confidentiality agreement by 15 December 2015 (OTRS users have until 22 December 2015) to retain your access to nonpublic information. If you do not wish to retain this access, please let me know and we will forward your request to the appropriate individuals.

Thank you,

Confirmation discussions[edit]

Dear Melos,

As you probably know, the confirmation discussions for Stewards have been closed. In order to determine the outcome of these discussions, you are invited to comment on Talk:Stewards/Confirm/2016 before scheduled closure of the confirmation section "one week after the appointment of the newly elected stewards" (Sunday 6th of March, 17:22 UTC), though the closing time might be extended at the ElectCom's discretion for an extra week if it is believed "further input is required before concluding". All stewards are welcome to comment, including those newly elected.

For those who ran for confirmation, consider revising comments regarding you, and replying to those where appropriate.

OK grazie --Samuele2002 (talk) 18:03, 13 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

No renaming between November 20 and November 27[edit]

Hi,

You’re getting this because you’re a steward or global renamer. The Community Tech team are working on cross-wiki watchlists. We need to add a couple of fields to the localuser table in centralauth database. In order to be able to do this, we’d need to run a script that will get in the way of renaming users. Our apologies – we realize this is getting in the way of your work.

We ask that you do not rename anyone between 00:00 November 20 (UTC) and 00:00 November 27 (UTC).

(UTC means that if you live in the Americas, it will be on the evening or afternoon of November 19 when the script starts running, and if you live in Oceania or eastern Asia, it can be closer midday on November 27 before we can be sure the script is no longer running.)

Phabricator task.

If there are any problems related to this, or you have any questions, please write me on my talk page. /Johan (WMF) (talk) via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 19:39, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Grazie mille in anticipo :) --Samuele2002 (talk) 11:09, 21 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

? --Samuele2002 (talk) 23:33, 22 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

About Xoser of diqwiki[edit]

Hi, please may you look at this: [2]

Xoser's contributions to Zazaki Wikipedia. They are split into three parts:

  • 15 April 2017
  • 19 Septemmber 2014
  • 1 June 2010

2017, 2014 and 2010. All of Xoser's contributions are intermittent, not continuous. This user is not active and does nothing about stewardship of Zazaki Wikipedia. Already there are only three active users in Zazaki Wikipedia and two of them Asmen and Mirzali are sysops. And I'm one of most active users of the three users. So we don't need another sysop for Zazaki Wikipedia. Already it's a small wiki. How can three users be sysops? There are only three active users. It's unnecessary.

Two sysops (Asmen and Mirzali) and I, we are agreed about removal of Xoser's system operatoring. And community of Zazaki Wikipedia also agreed about it [3]. Vuzorg (talk) 14:34, 15 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please start a new local discussion --Melos (talk) 16:03, 15 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Help design a new feature to stop harassing emails[edit]

Hi there,

The Anti-Harassment Tools team plans to start develop of a new feature to allow users to restrict emails from new accounts. This feature will allow an individual user to stop harassing emails from coming through the Special:EmailUser system from abusive sockpuppeting accounts.

We’re inviting you to join the discussion because you have experience dealing with abusive sockpuppeting accounts and you work across many wikis. We think that your insights will help us build a better feature.

You can leave comments on this discussion page or send an email to the Anti-Harassment Tools team.

It is important to hear from a broad range of people who are interested in the design of the tool, so we hope you join the discussion and let us know how it would work best for you.

Return to scn.wiki after long absence[edit]

Hello Melos, I'm not sure if you remember me, I was one of the co-founders of scn.wiki back in Oct 2004, and the first sysop, I then had a very long break for a variety of personal reasons, but I now have plenty of time to re-dedicate to scn.wiki, which I've started doing the past week. I'm actually quite happy to be a normal user and just edit, but I now realise it would be useful to have admin rights so that I can return to doing stuff on the main page, like article of the week, etc. There is such minimal usage right now (apart from me and vandals), that I'm not sure how long it would take to have someone with authority logging in to make the change. I'm hoping you might be able to help me, thanks, pippu - (waarom? jus'b'coz!) 02:16, 17 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Do you know to say "village in China" in Sicilian language? I am about to update wikidata. --Artix Kreiger (Message Wall) 04:29, 19 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Emergency in KaWiki[edit]

Dear steward,
Please read my explanation thoroughly. It is about an inexorable situation in the Georgian Wikipedia, the long-established. Every attempt to solve the problem locally fails again and again. So, please, do not be indifferent.
The requests are extraordinary, so I do not write on a general page, but personally.
Best regards, Deu. 18:03, 30 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

RfCu on wiki that has has checkusers[edit]

Hi. Is it against policy that I request checking some IP addresses and accounts here, although my native has 3 (three) check-users. They did investigate a problematic user, gave me (via email) results of their investigation, but didn't/won't publicly announce it. So he continues to "contribute", although he was confirmed puppeteer on Serbian and English Wikipedia. -- Bojan  Talk  03:43, 24 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Grazie ancora e a presto,

Lorenzo Losa (msg) 15:15, 18 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation for Functionary consultation 2021[edit]

Greetings,

I'm letting you know in advance about a meeting I'd like to invite you to regarding the Universal Code of Conduct and the community's ownership of its future enforcement. I'm still in the process of putting together the details, but I wanted to share the date with you: 26 June, 2021. I do not have a time on this date yet, but I will let you soon. We have created a meta page with basic information. Please take a look at the meta page and sign up under the appropriate section.

Thank you for your time.--BAnand (WMF) 14:04, 2 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations, dear administrator![edit]

Congratulations, Melos! You now have the rights of an administrator on Meta-Wiki. Please take a moment to read the Meta:Adminstrators page and watchlist related pages (in particular Meta:Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat, and Meta:Requests for deletion, but also Talk:Spam blacklist and Talk:Interwiki map), before launching yourself into page deletions, page protections, account blockings, or modifications of protected pages. The majority of the actions of administrators can be reversed by the other admins, except for history merges which must thus be treated with particular care. Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikimedia-adminconnect. You may find Meta:Admin handbook to be useful. Please also check or add your entry to the Template:List of administrators. You're also allowed to subscribe to the metawiki-admins private mailing list (subscription instructions on that page). Again, congratulations and welcome to the team.MF-W 07:00, 19 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Testo candidatura in lingua italiana[edit]

Ciao, grazie infinite. Fatto bene perché non l'ho volutamente fino ad ora tradotto in quanto sto facendo ancora alcune prove sull'i18n. Melos (talk) 14:13, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Congrats[edit]

Hi, Melos! Congrats for the selection. Nicely done! Julius 12345 (talk) 12:14, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
