Your Request for the AMWs Deletion[edit]

Dear Mindspillage,

I do not understand why you want the AMW deleted. Who wants an encyclopedia with porn in it and things of the likes. That is the main goal. Would you want your kid to see a site like Wikipedia that is supposed to be educational in nature, turned into a site which features Images that are worthy of being showcased on the Spice channel, or something like that? I don't think so.

Jimbo wants to hear from me? Cool[edit]

Gadzooks! Jimbo wants to hear from me? Wow, is that an honour? Yeah, I'll send him an email. Cheers for letting me know dude --Wonderfool 22:25, 28 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hang on a second, where is said that Jimbo wants to hear from me? --Wonderfool 22:26, 28 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Advice?[edit]

Hmmm, so what do you advise that I write? I mean, talking to Jimbo I've gotta be very choosy about the wording. Should I use grandiloquent words, or keep it simple? Will he be angry at me? Or curious? Do you advise that I explain my actions, or apologize (I'm pretty good at fake apologies)? Or try to defend myself, saying that a score of bad edits in 3000 should just be reverted? Thanks for taking the time out to converse (even if it is a cheeky plan to stop my from "vandalising" pages for a while --Wonderfool 22:37, 28 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Good deed[edit]

Hello Kat,
I just wanted to let you know how much pain I've had to draft a decent letter/email in English announcing the creation of Wikipen. I don't know if I succeeded but at least, it is there : http://en.wikipen.org/wiki/User:Aurevilly/Presentation_letter Since I dont want to be ridiculous as to sent such letter announcing a literary project, full of spelling mistakes and such, could you be as nice as making some necessary copy/edits ? FYI, when that letter is done, it is expected to be sent (email or snail mail I don't know yet, to entities that I've began to list at http://en.wikipen.org/wiki/Wikipen:Let_them_know Anyhow, thanks for any help you can provide. Is Spam blacklisting all that ever happens on meta?[edit]

Its all I ever hear about.

I am sure that you agree that using the spam blacklist to censor out criticism of Wikipedia is wrong, and that a forum that was used by Daniel Brandt to expose Chase as Seigenthaler's libeller belongs in the Daniel Brandt, Chase and Seigenthaler bio controversy articles, and given that this forum is purely for criticism of Wikipedia, it also belongs in that article. Adding it to the spam blacklist so as to resolve a dispute about whether or not they want to list that accurate, sourced information that that was the first place to expose Chase as Seigenthaler's libeller is wrong. And pretending that it is not offering criticism, when Andrew Orlowski, Larry Sanger and Daniel Brandt, as well as half of Wikipedia's admins, all post there, is just ludicruous. Please can you see to having the site removed from the spam blacklist? It was never used to spam, and does not belong there. 59.167.131.8 21:01, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps if the site were offering high-quality criticism instead of being primarily a forum for trolling and conspiracy theories, and its members were not engaging in ridiculous behavior regarding it on and off the wiki (I've gotten several notices spamming it on IRC already), your request would be more thoughtfully looked over. If you think that "half of Wikipedia's admins" post there, you are simply wrong; a few have tried, but most give up on it as a waste of time. I don't see any reason to remove it. We link to plenty of legitimate criticism; this site is simply another non-notable forum, which per en.wikipedia's external links guidelines, we prefer not to include, and the continual disruption of it is more trouble than it's worth. Mindspillage (spill yours?) 21:23, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The point is this: It was never, not once, used to spam. It is not a commercial site, is not for profit, and has no advertisements. It was only ever placed in articles where it would be an appropriate link, and a correct link to place. Whilst you might debate whether it is notable enough to list as an external link in Criticism of Wikipedia, it most certainly belongs in the Daniel Brandt article and in all of the Seigenthaler-related articles, simply as a reference, because that was where the case was first exposed by Daniel Brandt. Now, if you want to start adding references to the spam blacklist, then you are misusing the list. But, of course, this kind of thing has happened before, hasn't it? I seem to recall a year ago when I was trying to correct an article how all of a sudden half of my 100 or so references were added to the spam blacklist, meaning that I could not add them back, and since someone was vandalising the page that meant that the whole article was wiped. They then said it was all "original research" since they'd listed all of the sources in the spam blacklist. This kind of censorship happens quite a bit, doesn't it? You just don't want people to know the truth. 59.167.131.8 17:16, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How can I help with the info-en queue on OTRS[edit]

Hello. I am an admin over on enWiki, and am interested in helping out with Info-EN for OTRS. I have experience in dealing with front end consumers in a call center environment, and have responded to customer emails before, and feel I would be able to assist. Let me know either here on Meta (I will try to remind my self to check in here, but if you could just nudge me at w:User talk:Admrboltz, would be appreciated. And I promise to use a spell checker ;). Translation combination boxes[edit]

The following text has been copied from Meta:Babel#Translation_combination_boxes. As an active translators, it may be of any interest to you:

Hi, Sabine worked on new boxes for translators. They aim at giving information about translation combination: say, I can translate from English to French, from Italian to Spanish, and so on. It would help us to know who can translate what, in what, to streamline the translation process. The boxes do not provide information about your level (wether you are a professional translator or not, for example); you may write something about this point in your user page (very useful as well). A few boxes are available, be bold and create those you need :) Be aware we use ISO 639-3 codes for languages (fra and not fr, eng and not en, ...).

Please see "Translator in the following language combinations" and pick up templates for your user page!
This message was pasted on several User talk pages of active translators.

Thank you :)

Wikizine[edit]

Hi,

I am user:Walter from Wikizine. I offer you, like all the other candidates, the opportunity to send me statement of around 300 words that I will send to the subscribers of wikizine. For more information see Wikizine/election 2006.

Greetings, Walter 22:12, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

PS: yes, I know, I have send this to you before by email. But for reasons I do not wish to explain here in detail I think in this case is useful that I can prove that I have asked you this. Because of that this second message.

Board of Trustees elections[edit]

Hello!

The Wikipedia Signpost, a community-newspaper in the English Wikipedia, is covering the Board of Trustees elections and will be featuring each of the candidates in next week's issue. As such, we would appreciate it if you would take some time to answer a few interview questions. Each candidate will be asked the same questions; by no means, though, feel obligated to answer any (or even) all of them, though we would greatly appreciate it if you did.

Some of the questions may be a bit redundant to the candidate information you have filled out already. This is both for convenience and for giving you the opportunity to expand on some of them a bit. However, we ask that you keep all responses brief, limiting them to no more than one or two paragraphs each.

You may leave replies to my English Wikipedia talk page, my meta talk page, or email them to me. I would appreciate it if responses are in on or before this Saturday, August 26; please have them in at the latest on Sunday the 27th in order for them to be included in Monday's issue.

As always, the Signpost reserves the right to re-distribute the questions and replies, shorten any responses if necessary, and take any other editorial action deemed appropriate.

Thanks again for your time, and please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions! Flcelloguy (A note?) 00:06, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Spam Blacklist[edit]

Recently you added a domain to the spam black list. [1] At the time this prevented its addition to wikipedia pages. However, a recent experiment shows that it can now be added without being flagged.[2] Has there been a change or is this normal? Sorry for my ignorance in this area. 128.104.98.191 18:52, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks and now a request[edit]

First, thanks very much for unblocking. Now on an unfortunately related note: there appears to be an issue of impersonation of a Wikipedia user here. Both Gastrich and certain anti-Gastrich people commented that Usenetpostsdotcom might not be the same "Uncle Davey" user who was that user on .en, I emailed Davey through his Wikipedia email who confimred that it was not him and then made a a new account Theox see here. I would tentatively suggested that Usenetpostsdotcom be blocked here as an impersonator and disruptive user and checkuser performed (possibly between projects) to find out who is impersonating Davey here. I'm very much not a friend of Davey (you will note that the real Davey is in fact supporting Gastrich here) but this is obviously unacceptable. JoshuaZ 03:27, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Forwarded. Also, could you maybe point me to where I would find a reasonably active Steward to talk about the checkuser with? JoshuaZ 03:40, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Also I ran into some errors when I tried sending them to you. You should have two distinct emails possibly with some of them sent multiple times or something close to that. JoshuaZ 03:48, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Also, sending an email abotu a related concern directly to you if you don't mind. JoshuaZ 03:50, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I emailed Rdsmith4 as you suggested. JoshuaZ 04:10, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Rdsmith hasn't replied to my email or made any indication that a checkuser was performed. A pointer about who else to talk to/what to do would be good. Ideally before all the checkuser data gets stale. JoshuaZ 02:54, 27 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Spanish OTRS templates[edit]

Hello, mind lending a hand?

I've added a few OTRS templates at http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/OTRS/es

  • es-Borrado de cuenta For people requesting account deletion
  • es-¿Puedo escribir sobre X? For people requesting we add some article or are sending us text for inclusion on wikipedia
  • es-¿Porqué borraron mi artículo? People asking why their articles got deleted
  • es-¿Sobre cual artículo comentas? People email us, but they don't mention which article is being discussed, and therefore we request more information

Also, I'd like to point a change on a title:

  • es-Autor reclamando sus derechos should be changed to es-Solicitud más específica de permiso since the content of the template is we asking for a more clear and

specific statement, it's not about him claiming his rights.

How would I get those added to the info-es options list? drini 23:13, 1 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Personal attacks from User:Yaroslav Zolotaryov[edit]

Hello Mindspillage,

Knowing you from the en.wiki, I thought you would be able to help me on meta as well :)

There is currently a rather animated project close vote going on (Proposals_for_closing_projects#Close_Siberian_wikipedia). The main protagonist of this wikipedian, is making personal attacks on just about every person trying to support the closure, resorting on foul language and ethnic slurs. Mild examples include "Muscovite flashmob", "Lie and propaganda from anonimous troll", "you tell lies and propaganda", "troll accusations", "You know only those thing which Russian Nationalists told you." and so on.

I can't claim I'm familiar with meta policy (if there is one specific), but for my limited experience on en.wiki, these are rather serious offenses, and a warning might be in order, or maybe some more measures...

Incidentally, can you or one of your fellow admins keep an eye on the vote, especially when the closing will be driving nigh? The vote (especially the "oppose" vote) is plagued with anons and socks, and even with banned users such as Bonaparte.

Thanks in advance for everything,

Grafikm fr 13:38, 7 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

To my count, about 20 of 52 voters against Siberian wiki use similiar insults against me, so I have more cause to complain of personal attacks. --Yaroslav Zolotaryov 15:05, 7 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
For example, one of them, Kuban Kazak, use term "xenophobic vandals" about 40 persons, who vote against closure of sibwiki, while we do not use word "Vandal" for everybody. http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Proposals_for_closing_projects/Close_Siberian_wikipedia#Further_comments --Yaroslav Zolotaryov 07:22, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Mindspillage,

Please make the same measures against those, who insult me in this vote. As to anonyms, maybe it is the opposite part who created them --Yaroslav Zolotaryov 14:54, 7 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

access to OTRS[edit]

As part of the fundraising committee BradP and mav were talking about the problem of cleaning up the OTRS donations queue or subqueue by fundcom volunteers (I am the Chair, pro tem if you are not aware). Brad thought that donations should be a separate queue and fundcom volunteers (myself and jeremy tobacman have volunteered so far) are going to work on cleaning out the queue except for things that have to go to staff (such as donation refund requests or technical legal questions that I cannot answer with simple information). We are not sure of the protocol to become members as right now only mav can get onto OTRS. Am I asking the right person this question, Kate? Thanks in advance for your help. I understand that you're the person to talk to about volunteering to participate with the OTRS subcom, and so I thought I'd offer. Anyway, I believe I meet all of the given criteria, and I'd love to help out in any way I can. You can contact me by email or at w:en:User talk:AmiDaniel. Thanks.
