Wikipedia Asian Month 2017 officially starts![edit]

Dear WAM organizer,

I’m Erick Guan, the coordinator of WAM 2017. Welcome to Wikipedia Asian Month 2017. Here is some information about organizations of events at a national level.

Timeline[edit]

The event lasts a month for the participants. As of the beginning of the event, please:

  • Invite previous participants to join. We have a template you may want to use.
  • Setup your WAM page in your local wikiproject if you haven’t done that.
  • Link your WAM page at Wikipedia Asian Month 2017. It’s important for others to understand and connect to your community! Remove the X when you done that. WAM is organized at national level. So I have to ask you to put your country in front of your name if you haven’t done that.
  • Publish a notification about WAM in site notice as well as village pump. Go public!
  • Connect with us. Generally send me an email so that we can reach you for future information!
  • Become the jury member in a campaign on Fountain which is an amazing tool for you to supervise participants’ articles. If you don’t have the campaign set up, please contact us! And put a link to your community’s campaign page for participants’ navigation.
  • Organize a off-site editathon event. A coffee bar, internet and laptops. Though it’s optional. If you want to do that, please contact me.

In the following days, you should answer the questions from your community and supervise the submissions. Hope you have fun!

Interesting articles[edit]

Have some interesting articles in your mind or from community? Drop us a line so that we can exchange the information to other communities.

Dear Richard923888! Very high demand for a river cruise. It's better to select the date as soon as possible. I think there can not be places for six months and earlier. It is better not to choose the dates of the 2018 World Cup in Russia (it seems there are no more tickets). Yours faithfully, — Niklitov (talk) 08:49, 18 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Uralic language contest 2019[edit]

Hello, Nikolai, and thank you for joining WMRU as partner for the Uralic language contest 2019! The pages are mostly finished now, and I have enabled them for translation – would you be able to help translate them, and to post to the village pumps of the local Wikipedias about the contest (I made a draft message you can use if you want) inviting people to join? I think it is better to post there in Russian than English. :-) And please let me know if you have any more ideas or feedback about the contest! questions about WikiUral[edit]

Hi Niklitov:

Greetings. First of all thank you for hosting WikiUral. I am interested in what qualifies to get a "Birds of the Middle Ural Book" in this contest. According to the "Prizes" section of the page,

Prize B: For the first 20 places (the maximum number of articles on the topics Nature protection of the Urals, naturalists and biologists of the Urals) the prize is the Birds of the Middle Ural Book by mail form EkaterinBird.

If I understand correctly, will the 20 people who create the most nature articles among all Wikipedias (all languages) this month will get the prize? Or does this only apply to the English Wikipedia?

On top of that, what is your criteria of "the topics Nature protection of the Urals, naturalists and biologists of the Urals"? Does it include everything about nature in Ural Federal District? Some animal and plant entries you list in the "Glossary" section, for example, Glycyrrhiza uralensis, are distributed widely in Asia. It is by no means endemic or directly related to the Urals. While it does have "uralensis" in its name, I could imagine you don't intend to include it in the contest since it does not have relevance here. Could you please clarify this for me? Thank you very much and have a nice day. --Wikimycota~receptor 🍄 22:19, 14 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Niklitov, thank you for your reply. So just to verify, for the "Birds of the Middle Ural Book" prize, any article (in any Wikipedia) related to "nature" counts. Is this correct? Thank you very much. I will try to write some articles about the environment of the Urals on Chinese Wikipedia (zh) then. --Wikimycota~receptor 🍄 21:40, 16 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Cannot upload articles to WikiUral (Chinese Wikipedia)[edit]

Hi Niklitov:

I was trying to upload the article zh:維西姆自然保護區(which is Висимский заповедник)to the WikiUral fountain page but it failed. It said that the article only had 67 characters, which is obviously not the case. (However I could upload this article successfully to the Chinese Wikipedia Asian Month Fountain page). Is there any way to solve it? Thank you very much. --Wikimycota~receptor 🍄 03:25, 30 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I've written 6 articles today for WikiUral: zh:維西姆自然保護區, zh:巴塞吉自然保護區, zh:奧內西梅·克勒爾奇, zh:烏拉爾兔耳草, zh:烏拉爾自然科學愛好者學會, and zh:彼爾姆地區博物館. However I am not able to upload any of them to Fountain. There seems to have an error in Fountain's word counting function, as it keeps saying the articles don't have enough characters. (but I was able to upload all 6 of them to the Asian Month Chinese Wikipedia Fountain page. It's just the WikiUral Fountain page that doesn't work). Hope it gets solved soon.--Wikimycota~receptor 🍄 10:41, 30 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
