This barnstar is given to you for your help with the 2011 fundraiser translation.

Hi! I just want to thank you and give you this barnstar for your help with the translation of the 2011 fundraiser! The fundraiser was the best we ever had, both in terms of the amount we collected and in terms of number of translations. We couldn't have done either one without the help we got from you and other translators. If you are interested, we made a report, which has some statistics about the translations.

And: I have one more request, and that is that you take this survey. You may have got an e-mail about it, and if you did, please ignore this. But if you didn't it would be great if you would take this survey too, so we can learn to improve the translation experience.

Again, thanks for your help with translations – you're awesome! Jon Harald Søby (WMF) 14:29, 24 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The "Apizza" vandal[edit]

Just out of curiosity, who is this guy, whom I blocked as User:Pizza is Pizza and Pizza on MediaWiki.org? This guy recreated State Street Apizza (which I've now salted) with the same content as before on MediaWiki.org.--Jasper Deng (talk) 04:42, 15 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimedia Botswana Meta Page[edit]

I have been thinking of creating a meta page about the planning of the Wikimedia Botswana page maybe you are the right person to assist me in doing that please.Oarabile Mudongo (talk) 10:13, 21 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I can help you start this. You can create the page Wikimedia Botswana, following the styles of other proposed chapters (Wikimedia Tunisie, Wikimedia Ghana). You have done a great job on tn.wikipedia and the Google Setswana challenge was a good way to attract you, but we cannot let this be the only "attraction" forever. Here are some steps I think apply:
Step-by-step chapter creation guide
  1. Gather the people
Get people who would be interested in tn.wikipedia and the proposed chapter
The Wikimedia Foundation recommends you have at least 20 people.
  2. Goals? Structure?
Develop Wikimedia Botswana's goals. You can look at Wikimedia chapters for inspiration. You may especially want to look at other African chapters and proposed chapters. (Wikimedia South Africa, Wikimedia Ghana, Wikimedia Tunisie, etc.)
  3. Run a pilot program (optional! not needed or required!)
    Please see Step-by-step_chapter_creation_guide#Step_3:_Run_a_pilot_program_.28Optional_step.29
  4. Draft fundamental documents
Make sure it meets Requirements for future chapters
    1. passes The mission of the organisation must be in line with the mission of the Wikimedia Foundation.
    2. passes The chapter is geographically based/anchored in a legal jurisdiction.
    3. would probably pass The chapter must have a legal structure/corporation that is legally independent from the Wikimedia Foundation. (if it is created)
    4. would probably pass The chapter must involve contributors to the Wikimedia projects.
    5. unfortunately, The chapter must involve a critical mass of participants.
I think it would easily pass everything except "The chapter must involve a critical mass of participants." Of course, the chapter may help to attract contributors, but it needs to start with at least 10 or 20 users.
Apply to be approved (Affiliation Committee)
I can't help with anything after this step, sorry.
If you need more help, ask the Affiliation Committee. πr2 (tc) 13:20, 21 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Livre a plusieurs sens.

Page name[edit]

Hey PiRsquared,

Unfortunately the notification links wont work if the page is moved to the corrected spelling. Its a weakness of the extension to be unable to redirect such links. A notification will be resent out later this month for languages not completed this page since it got disrupted by such a page move and ill move the page for that notification. I'm aware of the issue and the translations won't be published until all instances of the name have been reviewed. Jseddon (WMF) (talk) 10:48, 14 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Translations[edit]

Hi. Are you able to change the status of a translation? The "Set" button in the "State" field has dissapeared for me (ie: here). Regards. -- MarcoAurelio (talk) 20:48, 6 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I've tried everything I can think of and I still can't set the translation status. The "Set" button doesn't appear for me either. I've noticed this before, but I've just usually skipped setting the status. πr2 (tc) 21:59, 6 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks - I have filled a bug ticket for this. Regards. -- MarcoAurelio (talk) 16:34, 7 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Again on this matter - do we actually want subpages for it? (Most probably via Translate extension then). I'm thinking that it might be easier to copy from last year then. And then we could also get rid of that section whose qqq gets ignored ;) [1] --MF-W 21:50, 12 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure. Special:Translate is less practical but more elegant. What do you think? You were right about that qqq! ;) If you think Special:Translate is less efficient and you'd rather import using the language select feature, feel free to change it! (I'm going to be busy a few more days, then I'll be able to focus more on the SE) πr2 (tc) 02:14, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I generally agree that using the Translate extension is better, but here I was a bit unsure because copying a single page would've been easier ;) Nevertheless I thought it couldn't harm to try to make this SE run on Special:Translate completely, to see if that works [For next year, we definitely should try to find some way to easily take over all the messages which are the same since years..]. I made Stewards/Elections 2013/Introduction translatable now, but, as you can see from the page history, there were some difficulties (I wanted to get everything into just one message, but the extensions insists on one msg per paragraph); and there is some error with correctly displaying the first enumeration dot (*) on SE2013. I copied from Stewards/Elections 2012/Introduction until zh. --MF-W 00:29, 15 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Becoming an admin on a small wiki[edit]

Hello, I think we talked a while ago on IRC. I would like to know what you think the requirements would be to become an administrator on fj.wikipedia.org. Currently there are no admins on the Fijian Wikipedia (verification is also available here). I don't know if there is a need for an admin on that wiki or if it's monitored well enough on IRC. I would appreciate your advice. Please send a {{talkback}} to my talk page on English Wikipedia when you respond. Thanks! Tucoxn (talk) 02:10, 21 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Since there is no community (?), you can ask for temporary adminship on the wiki itself (mention it on fj:Wikipedia:Community portal and fj:Talk:Tabana levu). But what do you want to do on this wiki? Do you have a particular task in mind? Well, it is monitored on IRC in #cvn-swconnect and there are usually people watching it, but there's always a chance some edits will be overlooked. If nobody opposes your request in a week (usually 2 weeks, but a steward I asked said 1 week was okay too), you can request temporary adminship on SRP. In the meantime, leave your admin requests on SRM and global sysops will handle them. πr2 (tc) 03:32, 21 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
There has been vandalism on the Fijian wikipedia (at least here). It's possible that the bots or IRC monitors don't see some of it because Fijian is not a well-known language. I'd like to use the admin privileges to combat vandalism. I'm going to check all the 264 content pages (more after I created several pages on climate change today) for vandal language and page creations. I'll eventually look at the user pages for vandalism as well. I'm learning Fijian and know enough to be able to identify off-topic content. Tucoxn (talk) 05:05, 21 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'll ask any other questions that I have in #wikimedia-stewardsconnect. Thanks again! Tucoxn (talk) 05:09, 21 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Why Meta:Über Meta was no redirected to Meta:About/de prior/after migration? As general, you choose bad way of convertation. In my opinion, old translated versions of translatable page should be redirected into standartized names prior starting of migration process (through moving pages, but no such case). This will keep the edit history and avoid duplication, such as existing currently.--Kaganer (talk) 07:32, 8 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Kaganer, it was a misunderstanding. The correct procedure is documented at Meta:Translate extension (please improve the page if it's not) and he'll follow it. No permanent damage done, and I hope not too many history merges are needed (procedure is now: remove all translate tags, remove the page from translation, move all translations to subpages, then rollback yourself on source page and remark). --Nemo 18:24, 8 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Very thanks for fixing it! Please also incorporate these pages: Meta:Acerca de Meta (es), Meta:Quant a/Oc (oc; maybe duplicate). --Kaganer (talk) 19:02, 8 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Also exist some alternative Japan Guide Meta:メタウィキの歩き方. --Kaganer (talk) 19:19, 8 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The benefit of standard titles: we're forced to do some cleanup!
If there are duplicates before translation, there's little to do but choosing one, leaving the other around as redirect, dump all the texts in the new translation system in some way, add !!FUZZY!! everywhere and wait for a native speaker to do collages and/or retranslations... --Nemo 19:40, 8 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry you about Trongphu's words. He doesn't represent for Vietnamese community. He just represents for himself, and nobody in Vietnamese community agrees with him (you can see the bottom of this discussion, here and here). Hi,

Thank you, I didn’t the former proposals. Since I’m not a member of the LangCom, I can’t be sure what to do but a opening a Proposals for closing projects/Merging of Twi Wikipedia and Akan Wikipedia could be a good place to talk. Could you before do some extend search on these languages ? (It's not clear if Akan is a language or a macrolanguage and if Twi is a language or a dialect ; has someone calculate the percentage of mutual intelligibility ?).

Cdlt, VIGNERON * discut. 12:06, 9 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Akan is more like a bunch of closely related dialects. They are all pretty much mutually intelligible, but their written forms may not be. They used to use different orthographies/spellings, but now there is a proposed standard orthography for all of these dialects/languages: see en:Akan Orthography Committee. I don't know if it's worth it to merge the wikis because neither of these is very active. Maybe we should just leave them alone until a native speaker asks about it. πr2 (tc) 20:56, 12 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, in effect.. Thanks for sticking the categories on User:Addbot/Wikidata_Summary, it had never occurred to me :) ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 15:09, 7 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome! I actually slightly abused Category:Translations in priority (only Transcom users can add stuff), but I'm sure nobody will care. ;) After all, it would be nice to have the edit summary localised, and this will bring more users. Regards, πr2 (t • c) 15:13, 7 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there,

Do you mean that, with that new Wikidata thing, inter-wiki links are no longer needed to be placed in local wiki articles?

Thanks. --Moonian (talk) 12:46, 9 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, that is true. Please see Wikidata/zh-hans and Wikidata/Help/zh-hans#.E9.98.B6.E6.AE.B51.EF.BC.9A.E8.B7.A8.E8.AF.AD.E8.A8.80.E9.93.BE.E6.8E.A5. Hope this helps explain stuff. If not, you can find more help by following the instructions of Wikidata/Help#Any_questions.3F. Also, the userpage of User:Addbot might explain things. Archiving old translations[edit]

Thank you very much for your work on this. This is an example of how to archive old translations: [3]. In this case I also moved the page as you suggested, for consistency (not really needed); and I hid the content via {{request for translation2|closed}} because the pages are already on wmf: (not bad to avoid duplicate indexing). In general, what we're really interested in is 1) not having useless translations requests polluting categories (and ideally having all such archived requests categorised), 2) having a full list of still-relevant translated/translatable pages (that are candidates for Translate migration), a) under proper titles (subpage convention) and b) properly categorised (ideally by tagging with appropriate templates). Makes sense? Now I'll work on the uncategorised pages list. --Nemo 11:20, 12 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

E' rimasta una traduzione doppia in "Fundraising 2012"[edit]

They were very small wikis with no sysops or prominent active contributors, so I didn't know where to draw a line and wrote to all contributors listed by WikiStats, that as for our standards are users with 10 or more edits. That they were still so few is telling. :( --Nemo 11:05, 17 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Problem with translation[edit]

Hi,

Thank you for trying helping me in my translation job. But I must confess that I don't like the tool you use for this.

I want to change the order of some section of the « gender gap » page, mainly to explain first why we talk about gender gap. I tried to do so, but the page seems now all in disorder. I would like to put some ressources I developped in my school project about the gender gap.

Do you know how I/we can fix this ?

Bonjour,

Simon Villeneuve 13:51, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

I'll see what I can do later. Quite busy now, sorry. πr2 (t • c) 19:10, 19 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, no problem. Thank you !
If you can show me some pages describing how to use this tool, it can help me.
I'll begin a translation of the OTRS page too. Please, for now, don't convert it in this translation page format. --Simon Villeneuve 11:10, 20 March 2013 (UTC)
Thank you again for your work. However, I must say that there's again some problem on the section Gender_gap/fr#Discussions. Do you know what we must do ? Simon Villeneuve 12:37, 23 March 2013 (UTC)
Hi,
Congratulations for your new status !
I don't understand what you mean by « complete the gender gap ((english) page ». All I want to be corrected is some mistakes in the French « Discussions » section, where, in the middle, some English publications appears for no reasons. --Simon Villeneuve 01:09, 3 April 2013 (UTC)

Hi, Prq17! Tutto ok?[edit]

Scherzavo! Mi fa invece piacere!) --Gloria sah (talk) 21:42, 28 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It's OK. ;) πr2 (t • c) 21:57, 28 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Appunto: volevo chiederTi: resterà in qualche modo il contenuto della pagina, ma sotto un'altro aspetto grafico (page remains but under another skin)? Oppure proprio la pagina intera vogliono togliere? Thanks --Gloria sah (talk) 22:05, 28 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

See also: it:wikt: Aiuto:Preferenze/Aspetto. πr2 (t • c) 22:16, 28 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Grazie, A presto, --Gloria sah (talk) 22:27, 28 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

An offering for our new administrator from your comrades... (our budget is smaller than Commons)

PiRSquared17, congratulations! You now have the rights of administrator on Meta. Please take a moment to read the Meta:Administrators page and watchlist related pages (in particular Meta:Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat, and Meta:Requests for deletion, but also Talk:Spam blacklist and Talk:Interwiki map), before launching yourself into page deletions, page protections, account blockings, or modifications of protected pages. The majority of the actions of administrators can be reversed by the other admins, except for history merges which must thus be treated with particular care.

A tip: add this page Meta:Administrators' discussion index to your watchlist, it tracks the latest activity to various sections of many of the important pages.

Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikimedia-admin @ irc.freenode.net. You may find Commons:Guide to adminship to be useful reading although it doesn't always completely apply here at Meta.

Please also check or add your entry to Meta:Administrators#List of administrators and the Template:List of administrators.

Response to 'Only 196 pages' Comment[edit]

There would be way more than 196 articles in my Global Economic Map project proposal. There would be an article for each 'sub-division' of each country. All 50 states in the U.S. would have their own page. Every county and city could have their own page. Every corporation and bank could have its own page as well. The entire project would be standardized.

Thanks for your questions, I am glad to explain to project further.Mcnabber091 (talk) 05:03, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
