What future IdeaLab campaigns would you like to see?[edit]

Hi there,

I’m Jethro, and I’m seeking your help in deciding topics for new IdeaLab campaigns that could be run starting next year. These campaigns aim to bring in proposals and solutions from communities that address a need or problem in Wikimedia projects. I'm interested in hearing your preferences and ideas for campaign topics!

Here’s how to participate:

Take care,

I JethroBT (WMF), Community Resources, Wikimedia Foundation. 03:33, 5 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Future IdeaLab Campaigns results[edit]

Last December, I invited you to help determine future ideaLab campaigns by submitting and voting on different possible topics. I'm happy to announce the results of your participation, and encourage you to review them and our next steps for implementing those campaigns this year. Thank you to everyone who volunteered time to participate and submit ideas.

With great thanks,

I JethroBT (WMF), Community Resources, Wikimedia Foundation. 23:55, 26 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Open Call for Individual Engagement Grants[edit]

Greetings! The Individual Engagement Grants (IEG) program is accepting proposals until April 12th to fund new tools, research, outreach efforts, and other experiments that enhance the work of Wikimedia volunteers. Whether you need a small or large amount of funds (up to $30,000 USD), IEGs can support you and your team’s project development time in addition to project expenses such as materials, travel, and rental space.

With thanks, I JethroBT (WMF), Community Resources 15:57, 31 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Translation of terms in Programs and Events Dashboard[edit]

Hi Sage, hope you are doing well. I am translating for the Basque Education Program, and contacted you before in Phabricator. This is my query: In the link above I have this sentence: "It would also be very helpful if you could separately send a list indicating the translated names for each of the following English templates:" Who is this intended for? Shall I just translate the terms to Basque and rephrase the sentence? Thanks in advance --Iñaki LL (talk) 18:00, 2 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Iñaki LL It's intended for me to configure the dashboard to use the right templates. You should create templates corresponding to each of those ones, but with Basque names, and then let me know which Basque template corresponds to each of those templates. (This is only necessary if wiki editing is going to be enabled for Basque.)--Sage (Wiki Ed) (talk) 18:06, 2 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Ok Sage (Wiki Ed), I will confirm we are translating the templates, and if so, rephrase meaningfully the opening sentence of the section. Regards --Iñaki LL (talk) 18:16, 2 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Scripts for Videos in German from the Wikipedia Training Modules[edit]

Hi Sage,
As I already introduced on the talk page of JSutherland (WMF), WMDE wants to provide the Wikipedia Training Modules (https://outreachdashboard.wmflabs.org/training/editing-wikipedia) in German. I am currently doing that. We also want to reproduce the videos in German. It would be a huge help for us, if you could provide with the scripts for the videos. To be precise, I mean the following videos:
Video: Wikipedia editing basics: Plagiarism and copyright violation (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KbI1rqRVq7c&feature=youtu.be)
Video: Wikipedia: Edit Button (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bfxjrtot1M8&feature=youtu.be)
Video: Wikipedia editing basics: '''boldness''' and [[links]] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BU5Ga_Yz8ZU&feature=youtu.be)
Video: Wikipedia editing basics: Talk pages (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BU5Ga_Yz8ZU&feature=youtu.be)
Video: Wikipedia editing basics: Watchlists (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LqwZf_G9dlU&feature=youtu.be)
--Stefan Schneider (WMDE) (talk) 10:36, 15 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Stefan Schneider (WMDE): Most of these have the script on the Commons talk page, and/or closed captioning files:
The 'Edit Button' one that I think you meant to link to (you have BU5Ga_Yz8ZU linked twice) was not done by me, and I don't know of a script for it. If you meant to link another one that I made, let me know and I'll try to find it.--Sage (Wiki Ed) (talk) 21:17, 17 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Sage (Wiki Ed)! This was exaclty what I need! I found the Commons-Link to the Edit-Botton-Video myself and now that I know that the scripts are also in Commons I have all the information I need. --Stefan Schneider (WMDE) (talk) 15:18, 24 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Translation on Meta ready[edit]

Hi Sage Ross (WMF), I do not know if I should come here, so my apologies if this is not the place. The thing is I completed some translations in the Basque Education Program, and they need be activated for use. The Dashboard seems to be up and running, but I need to activate also this (Essentials) and Editing Basics. The Editing Basics series may need fixing strings ($ symbols), since I am not sure what the outcome of having them in the target language segment may be. Thanks in advance --Iñaki LL (talk) 08:44, 23 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Iñaki LL: Did you get this sorted out? To get new translations onto Programs & Events Dashboard, you need to reload the relevant modules. See Training_modules/Documentation#Updating_the_dashboard.--Sage (Wiki Ed) (talk) 23:11, 25 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Sage (Wiki Ed) for your reply, we still need to add terminology changes, and then check out how the links work. Will do it (hopefully) later or tomorrow. Best regards --Iñaki LL (talk) 11:50, 26 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia Training Modules - Opt-In possible?[edit]

Hi Sage,

I have another question on the Training Modules. As we are planing to integrate the modules into the user journey of a new editors campaign on de:WP, it would be very helpful to have the possibility to ask questions to users after they completed a module (of did not complete a module).

Do you think, that it's possible to integrate an Opt-In in the first Slide? I could think of a code that creates a flag in the user table if the user agree. Or something completely different?

User:Stefan Schneider (WMDE): It would certainly be possible to add a feature like that — I think it would get added to the `TrainingModulesUsers` table, which tracks an user's progress through an individual module. I don't have any features like that on my roadmap, but I'd be happy to provide support if you have someone interested in implementing it.--Sage (Wiki Ed) (talk) 23:06, 25 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Sage (Wiki Ed): Thank you for your quick reply! Actually I would like to implement it and I have no clue how to do that. Could you support here or do you know how to do that or who else could support our team here? In other words: What exaclty do I have to do, to implement such option?--Stefan Schneider (WMDE) (talk) 15:32, 4 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Stefan Schneider (WMDE): You'll need to know or learn some Ruby. The first step would be to set up a development environment for the Dashboard. If your interested in doing that, I can give you an invite to the dev Slack channel for the project and provide support from there.--Sage (Wiki Ed) (talk) 17:45, 4 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Editing WP brochure marked for translation (Translatewiki)[edit]

Hi Sage (Wiki Ed), I was wondering I can have this brochure marked for translation in Translatewiki, failing that Meta. Actually, we will be translating this soon also for the Basque Education Program, so it would best if this also is marked for translation and arranged in Translatewiki if possible. Best regards --Iñaki LL (talk) 15:17, 12 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Iñaki LL Unfortunately, as far as I know it's not possible to use translatewiki or mediawiki translation for those brochures. The source files are InDesign and/or Scribus files, and previous translations have been done (I believe) manually by an individual working from the source files. Maybe Tighe or Vahid know more? --Sage (Wiki Ed) (talk) 19:54, 12 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Iñaki LL, you should check out the localization guide which walks you through the process. Other languages have translated the text on wiki and then copied it into the design files to finalize. Feel free to ping me directly if the guide doesn't address your questions! --TFlanagan-WMF 22:06, 12 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The Community Wishlist Survey[edit]

Hi,

You get this message because you’ve previously participated in the Community Wishlist Survey. I just wanted to let you know that this year’s survey is now open for proposals. You can suggest technical changes until 11 November: Community Wishlist Survey 2019.

You can vote from November 16 to November 30. To keep the number of messages at a reasonable level, I won’t send out a separate reminder to you about that. /Johan (WMF) 11:25, 30 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

[Wikipedia & Education User Group] Updates: November 2018[edit]

Greetings,

Integrating Wikimedia with education is a powerful strategy for the outreach of Wikimedia projects. Realising this concept, a group of leaders promoted this and formed the Wikipedia Education Collaborative. After some time, this evolved to become a user group, officially recognised by the Affiliations Committee in June 2018. The user group had its first board elections earlier in September. In the process to formalise activities and give a shape the user group for long-term sustainability, we are now revamping our processes. Thanks for supporting us during incubation stages, we are now inviting you to formally join the user group by following the instructions on the members' page. Being a member will allow you to be a part of this wonderful collaboration and also do interesting stuff.

Kind regards
On behalf of Wikipedia and Education UG, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 11:44, 10 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Wikidata training modules?[edit]

In August 2021, you created Training modules/wikidata/library and a bunch of other related pages with <translate>...</translate> tags. These have been pending being marked for translation for 8 months. (The person who is most active at marking newly proposed pages for translation has abstained from doing so due to T271072) So, is there some reason you haven't marked the pages for translation (under your volunteer account), and is it still useful for me or another translation admin to mark them? * Pppery * it has begun 00:18, 16 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

* Pppery *: thanks! I think it would be helpful. When I added that new set of Wikidata training modules, I only enabled translation for the first few to avoid overwhelming the translators (and then I forgot to return to the rest). But I think now would be a great time to mark them for translations.--Sage (Wiki Ed) (talk) 17:29, 18 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Done. I also created Template:Editnotices/Group/Training modules to document the Wikitext limitations and hopefully minimize further confusion. * Pppery * it has begun 19:11, 18 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
* Pppery *: Thank you so much! --Sage (Wiki Ed) (talk) 19:15, 18 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
One final question: is there a way of linking to a training module on the dashboard by numeric ID? I think it would be helpful to add a "to see this module on the dashboard, click here" link to that editnotice. * Pppery * it has begun 19:16, 18 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There isn't one right now, but that would make perfect sense. I will add an issue to make this possible. --Sage (Wiki Ed) (talk) 19:19, 18 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Please add Tyap Wikipedia[edit]

Hi Sage. Greetings. I am here to make a request for Tyap to be added to the Outreach Dashboard to enable us be part of competitions involving editing in the Tyap Wikipedia. Best regards. Kambai Akau (talk) 10:45, 10 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Kambai Akau: Done! I've just deployed a change that adds some missing Wikipedia languages, include Tyap.--Sage (Wiki Ed) (talk) 19:37, 10 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, wow! Thanks bro. Best regards. Kambai Akau (talk) 08:38, 11 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
