Hi, Seraphimblade, I'm sorry but I had to remove your vote in one of the Steward elections candidate because elections have already ended on December 16th and all votes either it be support or oppose have to be removed after that since those votes become invalid...--Cometstyles 03:31, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
Global bans policy discussion[edit]
At Requests for comment/Global bans, where you have commented in support of Option 2, a third option has recently been implemented. The first two options did not prove a way for respondents to indicate that they oppose global bans entirely, i.e., that it is not possible to write a meaningful global bans policy that would attract their support. Option 3 is intended to provide that opportunity, and to aid in distinguishing between people who oppose the proposed policy because it requires improvements and those who oppose the proposed policy because no policy permitting global bans should be adopted.
Because the third section was added late by a respondent, it is possible that some people who responded early in the RFC have commented at option 2, but would really prefer to support option 3, or support both. If so, you may voluntarily choose to move your original comment or to or strikethrough your original comment and add new comments. Letter petitioning WMF to reverse recent decitions[edit]
The Wikimedia Foundation recently created a new feature, "superprotect" status. The purpose is to prevent pages from being edited by elected administrators -- but permitting WMF staff to edit them. It has been put to use in only one case: to protect the deployment of the Media Viewer software on German Wikipedia, in defiance of a clear decision of that community to disable the feature by default, unless users decide to enable it.
If you oppose these actions, please add your name to this letter. If you know non-Wikimedians who support our vision for the free sharing of knowledge, and would like to add their names to the list, please ask them to sign an identical version of the letter on change.org.

Superprotect letter update[edit]
Hi Seraphimblade,
Along with more hundreds of others, you recently signed Letter to Wikimedia Foundation: Superprotect and Media Viewer, which I wrote.
Today, we have 562 signatures here on Meta, and another 61 on change.org, for a total of 623 signatures. Volunteers have fully translated it into 16 languages, and begun other translations. This far exceeds my most optimistic hopes about how many might sign the letter -- I would have been pleased to gain 200 siguatures -- but new signatures continue to come.
I believe this is a significant moment for Wikimedia and Wikipedia. Very rarely have I seen large numbers of people from multiple language and project communities speak with a unified voice. As I understand it, we are unified in a desire for the Wikimedia Foundation to respect -- in actions, in addition to words -- the will of the community who has built the Wikimedia projects for the benefit of all humanity. I strongly believe it is possible to innovate and improve our software tools, together with the Wikimedia Foundation. But substantial changes are necessary in order for us to work together smoothly and productively. I believe this letter identifies important actions that will strongly support those changes.
Have you been discussing these issues in your local community? If so, I think we would all appreciate an update (on the letter's talk page) about how those discussions have gone, and what people are saying. If not, please be bold and start a discussoin on your Village Pump, or in any other venue your project uses -- and then leave a summary of what kind of response you get on the letter's talk page.
Finally, what do you think is the right time, and the right way, to deliver this letter? We could set a date, or establish a threshold of signatures. I have some ideas, but am open to suggestions.

- Winged Blades of Godric, I left a comment regarding that, though everything is so fragmented there I'm not even sure if that's the right place for it. [1] I would strongly suggest you at least have a look at the two I put in the "ugly" section, as I suspect you might have some thoughts about them you might like to express. - It's night over here and I need to get some of RL stuff ready; will comment over the individual t/p(s) 'morrow. I saw your comments, which as always, have been brilliant:-)
- I managed to glance over some of the stuff, though and wrote a short thread at Sitush's t/p. From what I saw, some of the stuff is genuinely good enough but quite many are disastrous and threaten/distort the project autonomy (esp. content) in fundamental ways. Re: Proposal feedback issues[edit]
You're absolutely right, we have to reduce this confusion.
- I moved your feedback, because on the WG talk page, various comments may be posted, not necessarily related to recommendations.
- Discussions around recommendations have just begun. Feedback is anticipated to appear on respective talk pages, not necessarily on existing ones ;) Do you think I should create talk pages to encourage others to put their comments in right places?
- Why there are so many subpages? For clarity, I think. Those who read comments know which pages they should watch and which they don't have to. Future clustering and summarizing feedback will be easier as well. After all, this phase of collecting feedback is designed to be helpful for WG members. That's how I see it.
- The central page for feedback to recommendations of one WG is, logically, page like this one or this one, and the central page for feedback to all recommendations is this page. Do you think I should add a notice on top of respective pages and talk pages?
BTW, please take into your consideration that I'm not a full Core Team member. I don't know their intentions, I don't ask for approval of every single word I write. I express exclusively my own opinion. SGrabarczuk (WMF) (talk) 22:57, 10 August 2019 (UTC)
- SGrabarczuk (WMF), yes, I think some of those measures certainly might help, as well as perhaps directing people where such feedback should be left and reviewed on the pages describing and containing the proposals. Thanks for your comment. Did you see en:Wikipedia:Village_pump_(proposals)#Review_of_English_Wikimedia_fundraising_emails?
I thought it would be good to make more people aware of what's in these mails and get some discussion going – perhaps followed by an RfC to get a more meaningful result.
