From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Request for several Cameroon wikipedias by several project teams =

Hello,
It seems that some missunderstanding is happen. I'm here in Cameroon working for the German Cultural Center "Goethe-Institute". One of our missions is to provide access to informations and also access to information in locale languages. This is the framework why we invited people to a workshop about how to create a wikipedia in a Cameroon languages. The workshop was a succes and about 30 people went on to request wikipedia in their language. These are the eleven languages you've seen (Also Kwasio and Akoose). All these people are highly motivated and of course native speakers (N). The participants for Kwasio and Akoose had a problem with ther notebooks (because of an redirection caused by malware they wasn't able to create a page in wikimedia. That's the reason why the empty page was created by me and later filled out by the respective participants. I'm not a requester for theses languages, and as I know both filled out the "community line" with their names and accounts. Now I've noted that the request are both deleted, without knowing the exact reason. So I'll ask you if it will possible to reestablish the deleted request and to tell me exactly why they've been deleted. I can't accept the reason given "No meaningful content or history". There is still the problem that you could see the requests meanwhile on saturday evening when I checked the "meta request" links at all the respectivs Wp/ISO639 project there was nothing than empty pages. Maybe it is possible that the system went amok because there was to many request coming from the same IP ? I think so because several times the captcha was presented when the people send their request.
Or has the process been missunderstand and the request should be send once the final step to become an own subdomain.wikipedia.org is targeted?
For my part I can repeat it one time: all the requests of this day has been send with good intentions and of course no one wanted to reopen a new french version. You have to be aware that the MediaWiki skills of the participants are still on the way to be perfect. But who would be perfect the day of his birth? So please would you give them a chance and bring back the request.
PS: I hope that the project pages will not be deleted too? UJung 15:13, 28 March 2011 (UTC)

Deletion request

Please use words to explain your requests. Not all of us knows en.wiki deletion rules. THX --WizardOfOz talk 21:10, 24 September 2010 (UTC)

I thought that WM:CSD#G1 covers that? Just wondering, so I don't make the same mistake again. :| TelCoNaSpVe :| 21:12, 24 September 2010 (UTC)
LOL so you can see how informed one sysop here is. Never saw this page before. Mea culpa! --WizardOfOz talk 21:14, 24 September 2010 (UTC)
Thank you for taggin´, could you explain me this one. And please check always the linked pages too. --WizardOfOz talk 19:25, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
The move, I had thought, was associated with the banned user PauloHelene, and many of his moves to the different titles were quite inappropriate (see the complete move log here where many different people had to revert the moves to the correct title for standardization, and this diff is but one example out of many that are probably in the deletion history right now); the standard title would usually be "Administrator/*lang*" (Administrator/pt, for example, even though it's written entirely in Portuguese) and so I had moved it away from the foreign title to the English one. :| TelCoNaSpVe :| 23:00, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
As to looking through Special:WhatLinksHere, please forgive me if I erred in any way in cleaning up after my tagging. I try to be as thorough as possible in making sure no other pages use the one that I mark for deletion, but I can be as prone to mistakes as anybody in double-checking a page. :| TelCoNaSpVe :| 20:32, 27 September 2010 (UTC)

So this one redirect can be deleted? --WizardOfOz talk 19:49, 27 September 2010 (UTC)

Most likely, as I am the only substantial "contributor" or sole "author" (WM:CSD#G6) of the redirect now. :| TelCoNaSpVe :| 20:32, 27 September 2010 (UTC)

Need your info

Hi brother, I already inserted a petition in Meta Wiki to create a Wikipedia in Fataluku, my native language and now it still has discución status on behalf of the language committee. I want to know how many days we have to wait until they give the decision?? thanks Ivan Zeruwsky 01:01, 27 September 2010 (UTC)

Replied on your talkpage. :| TelCoNaSpVe :| 20:32, 27 September 2010 (UTC)

thanks

thanks a lot bro, anyway i have to write much article and invite others users to help me to make this possible quicker process... Ivan Zeruwsky 00:51, 28 September 2010 (UTC)

See revert summary. Even if the page is a redirect or has been deleted, the talk page may be useful to keep. This one, for example, contained more info than the content page. By the way, I've also restored the page, but this is a separate issue. --Nemo 08:53, 28 September 2010 (UTC)

I don't think that it's much of an association, per the talkpage, but if you want to restore it, go ahead, and it should be along with the talkpage. :| TelCoNaSpVe :| 09:17, 28 September 2010 (UTC)

Confirmation

I have responded to your query here, Philippe (WMF) 16:57, 6 October 2010 (UTC)

Please avoid changing the behaviour of highly used templates: you've canceled hundreds of links. The current situation may be confusing, but if you want to change it I suppose you need to request a bot to change those pages, before. --Nemo 20:48, 7 October 2010 (UTC)

Sorry, I guess I should have checked WhatLinksHere before. I'll do that now, and fix anything that was broken. :| TelCoNaSpVe :| 05:50, 8 October 2010 (UTC)
I'm not sure of what you're doing now. Doing such a repetitive task by hand doesn't seem a very good idea, but what do you want to do? If you replace every use of {{softredirect}} with {{interwiki redirect}} and then redirect the former to {{soft redirect}}, we'll still have a shortcut with different meaning than elsewhere, so where's the point? --Nemo 08:03, 8 October 2010 (UTC)
If they get confused, they can always see the little note you put at the bottom of the respective templates about "seealso: othertemplate." That will get their attention. The point is that the confusion between softredirect and interwiki redirect must be resolved. Not many will know about {{soft redirect}} and that {{softredirect}} is the same without a space. :| TelCoNaSpVe :| 08:06, 8 October 2010 (UTC)
Uh... bad idea. People aren't going to look at the documentation before putting {{softredirect}} on their page. sonia 08:11, 8 October 2010 (UTC)
Is there a better alternative out there, then? :| TelCoNaSpVe :| 08:40, 8 October 2010 (UTC)

I wouldn't flood that category with open requests (and also [1]), but it isn't so important, revert me if you prefer. --Nemo 08:03, 12 October 2010 (UTC)

RE:"fear"

RE: I think the spirit of your nominations is good, as long as you stick to nominating wikiquote, -versity, -books, and the like. If anything, it can be looked at as a "review." Be elaborate if/when nominating wikipedias, though. You'll need a much stronger rationale. Cheers! Seb az86556 11:45, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

OEIS change at interwiki map

At Talk:Interwiki map#Requests for updates I have posted a request to revert an interwiki map change made on your request. The OEIS and OEIS wiki are different entities. The OEIS is the main site while the OEIS wiki is for discussion about the OEIS. The interwiki map has always linked to the main site. If the OEIS prefix reverts back and you want to be able to use the interwiki map for the OEIS wiki then you can suggest a new prefix, for example OEISwiki. PrimeHunter 22:09, 13 November 2010 (UTC)

Beta News permissions

Don't worry. All Wikinews editions have permissions for republishing Beta News Agency content under CC-BY (actually, just Wikinews editors have that permission; nobody else; that means that we are the proxy for freeing their news). In fact, we have permissions to republish all news published on their site, as they have another service for their clients. Permissions include their services in Serbian, English, Hungarian, Albanian and Romani. You can ask anyone with access to OTRS system to check this permission. --Millosh 01:36, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for your comment, I created a page on the deletion of the Moldovan Wikipedia (is not that I want to open a discussion on the Moldovan language, but new arguments in favour of deleting the Moldovan Wikipedia appeared, e.g. the removal of the ISO codes, mockery, 4 years of inactivity).

I added a notice, at the beginning of this page, like it was done with the Siberian Wikipedia, I hope there is no problem. I didn't know where else to include the proposal. Have a nice day.--Danutz 17:07, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

disposition of Simple English Wikiquote

Regarding your recent edit comment about the disposition of content from Simple English Wikiquote, I don't think the original discussion explicitly addressed what to do with the content after closure. Do you read it differently? Do you think it would be a good idea to run a separate proposal in order to determine consensus for what to do with the content? ~ Ningauble 22:09, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

Yes, that was how I interpreted the discussion hashed out in the oppose section. However, I recommend that a reconfirmation be established about the content of a large-scale wiki such as the Simple English Wikiquote, and given its current state, it's not likely to ever reopen again. Perhaps filing a Request for comment or starting some other discussion such as a thread on the Wikimedia Forum should be appropriate. :| TelCoNaSpVe :| 02:14, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for your response. There was some discussion of having English Wikiquote carry on Simple's mission of explaining meanings, but I didn't sense a broad consensus there. I seriously doubt there would ever be a consensus at English Wikiquote to do this. Contributor attempts at original analysis are routinely reverted to "let the quote speak for itself." I was thinking about taking it to Proposals for closing projects with a recommendation to delete, but it may be better to use the Forum to explore options (merge, incubate, preserve, or delete). I might run an RFC at English Wikiquote for an up-or-down decision on whether to merge, but that might be a superfluous preliminary that does not really address the hard question. I will think about this a while longer. ~ Ningauble 19:33, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
I have revised your boldly preemptive promulgation of policy at the header of Proposals for closing projects. Please feel free to discuss these changes at the process talk page or at the Forum. ~ Ningauble 03:05, 4 February 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion

I reverted the speedy deletion template you inserted - this statement page is in the disqualified candidacies for this year's steward elections and therefore it should not be removed (together with almost a hundred others I think...) Wojciech Pędzich Talk 08:59, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

Ditto --Herby talk thyme 08:59, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
My apologies; I was lazy that day and didn't check the links. Would it help if I delink them from the steward elections page and then you can go back to deleting them? Most of them are just people messing around with the steward elections of the year when they saw the banner anyway, and their lack of contributions to any other projects except for Meta demonstrates that. :| TelCoNaSpVe :| 04:06, 11 February 2011 (UTC)

Sorry

I'm sorry. I did it unintentionally. Really :) mickit 20:34, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

Don't worry, I've seen it happen from time to time. :) :| TelCoNaSpVe :| 04:06, 11 February 2011 (UTC)

RE:talkpage of project-deletion/closure proposals

RE: Fair enough. I've gone ahead and moved all comments to the talkpage; it cannot be that only those in favor of a proposal are allowed to comment while everybody else is banned to the talkpage. Seb az86556 17:03, 15 February 2011 (UTC)

Fishing CUs

Hi TCNSV, I hope all is well since we've last had contact. I've closed a couple of requests you've made on SRCU for CUs regarding JimmyTwoShoesFan and a user on enwv. Firstly, we can not and do not do global CUs, and asking for "sleepers" etc., is fishing. Please reread the policy on CUs again. Remember that it is important to come to use with good evidence of abuse, rather than asking for a CU to obtain the evidence in the first instance. Cheers! fr33kman 19:53, 1 March 2011 (UTC)

Closure of Turkish Wikimedia

Hello TeleComNasSprVen,

Thank you for your message. I figured it'd be best if I replied here.

First of all thank you for your concern and interest in this matter. I am sincere about this, since I believe keeping an eye on such small wikis and preventing them from becoming a venue of inappropriate content are important tasks that need to be recognized, appreciated and acclaimed.

I am currently working on the content, but doing this offline. I am a guy who likes to get things done in his head first, and there is a thing or two that I need to make sure before getting things rolling.

Something, however, has been misunderstood, I think. Turkish Wikimedia will not, for the near future at least, be an official Wikimedia chapter, so it will not be subject to an official approval by the Chapters' Committee. The reason for this is our unwillingness to become an official establishment (company, charity, foundation, etc.) under Turkish law, which is an important criterion to become an official chapter. Thanks to our unreliable justice system, there are huge legal risks within the Turkish jurisdiction that are simply unavoidable, and neither of us who are interested in this matter have any interest, funds, energy or know-how to deal with a possible lawsuit. I have been dealing with OTRS responses for a couple of years, and you wouldn't believe how many senseless legal threats I've encountered so far.

I made that very clear when I talked to Cary Bass about the issue around January 2010. He was super nice, as always, and gave the project a go under these terms.

This group (as I like to call it) will do almost everything an official Wikimedia chapter does, and hopefully we will work much harder than most chapters.

As you have noticed, I've created some pages, but most of what I have in mind remain on my computer. I am reshaping things continously, and the web site content will be ready within 10 to 15 days I presume. The page Milletvekilleri alone took 2 days for instance. It is the list of representatives in the parliament. We will contact them in order to propose an amendment to our copyright law, and if we succeed a couple projects (Wikisources and Commons in particular) will benefit greatly from it.

My point is, the intentions are good, the projects serve the purposes of WMF, and WM-TR will hopefully get us much closer to our ultimate need (I quote): "to empower our volunteer community to collect and develop the world's knowledge and to make it available to everyone for free, for any purpose."

Cheers

Where are the request pages

We had a workshop today with some 30 participants who worked on wikipedias for 11 Cameroon languages. All of them created a request page (wikipedia_ISO) and I've seen these pages saved. Now no one of these pages is still visible at the meta. What's happen? Are they strored at the wrong place? Here comes the list of the languages: Aghem incubator:Wp/agq, Akoose incubator:Wp/bss, Basaa incubator:Wp/bas, Douala incubator:Wp/dua, Ewondo incubator:Wp/ewo, Fe'fe incubator:Wp/fmp, Ghomala' incubator:Wp/bbj, Kwasio incubator:Wp/nmg, Ngomba incubator:Wp/jgo, Yangben incubator:Wp/yav UJung 20:43, 26 March 2011 (UTC)
