[edit] Congratulations, Dear Administrator!
Deutsch | English | Español | Français | Italiano | Nederlands | Português | Русский | edit
Thehelpfulone, congratulations! You now have the rights of administrator on Meta. Please take a moment to read the Meta:Administrators page and watchlist related pages (in particular Meta:Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat, and Meta:Requests for deletion, but also Talk:Spam blacklist and Talk:Interwiki map), before launching yourself into page deletions, page protections, account blockings, or modifications of protected pages. The majority of the actions of administrators can be reversed by the other admins, except for history merges which must thus be treated with particular care.
A tip: add this page Meta:Administrators' discussion index to your watchlist, it tracks the latest activity to various sections of many of the important pages.
Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikimedia-admin @ irc.freenode.net. You may find Commons:Guide to adminship to be useful reading although it doesn't always completely apply here at Meta.
Please also check or add your entry to Meta:Administrators#List_of_administrators and the Template:List of administrators.
Congratulations THO, Keep up the good work.;) Theo10011 22:03, 23 May 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Is it allowed in Wikipedia?
To keep in the pages of wiki Administrator's personnel thesis? at http://sd.wikipedia.org ? Other problem is We call Computer as same in English, but admin forcibly used his word Ganpukar of Computer. I have proof that thousands of published books called it Computer not Ganpukar. If some one oppose him he started abusive language. That is the reason sd.wikipedia.org never got attraction to Sindhi community. Plz check record there. Other things are he locked CSS due to that on the same site there are lot of font styles appeared there. He is not able to set commonCSS or Monocss. We are in trouble to work in our local Sindhi language. I don't know where to say for this problem. Record history says all the situation there. I appeal plz warn him to follow en.wikipedia.org rules, other wise he will continue use his personnel details and personnel promoted articles there. Dear I am sorry If u r not right person to say all about this, Plz suggest me where I can raise this issue. My sd.wikipedia.org ID is same. [edit] Translations
Hello. This extension is driving me mad. It seems to depend on the Job Queue and thus changes are not inmediate. I've tried to edit the Guideline page because the translation tags are wrongly placed thus breaking ==Sections== as well templates. Ie: it'd be better to: {{template|<translate>Text to translate.</translate>}} rather than wrapping the whole translate tags all over the template. I editconflicted, then received a weird message and now my edit is not even in the history. Weird.
Thanks —Marco Aurelio (Nihil Prius Fide) 11:05, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
- And, by the way, I'm receiving comments on IRC asking not to use the translation extension. I am frankly tempted to; given that the guidelines are the same of 2011 and it's easier to manage. Best regards. —Marco Aurelio (Nihil Prius Fide) 11:33, 2 January 2012 (UTC)

[edit] "agreement"
Ok. I don't want to be that guy, but may I ask where, why and when? - I'm a member of the commitee too, and I was never consulted about it. In fact, the consensus at other places went in the contrary. I'm not going to undo it, assume good faith and think that at least three electcom members agreed to that but I'm rather dissapointed that we're making changes to policy and election rules, within minutes, on IRC chatrooms or other closed ways without informing everybody involved. On the other hand, thanks for your valuable help in this year's elections & in general. Best regards. —Marco Aurelio (Nihil Prius Fide) 06:21, 16 January 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Responding to your ping on IRC
Hi Thehelpfulone! Yes, please, I would love for you to help with the staff and contractors page. You're right that Jay has been the primary keeper of the page, but the official keeper is probably Gayle Karen Young, the Wikimedia Foundation's Chief Talent and Culture Officer. I don't think she has a meta page yet, but you can find her on enWP here. But you don't need to check in with her unless you want to -- I know she'd be thrilled to have your help. There are probably additional JDs that we are behind in posting, so if you don't mind, she may ask you for help in future too :-) Thanks Sue Gardner 21:27, 19 January 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Sue, thanks for your reply. Yes, I believe that whilst she joined meta in November last year, she hasn't made any edits as of yet. I'll be happy to get in touch with her if I have any questions. I notice that she doesn't have an account on the Foundation Wiki itself, I imagine this will need to be created if she needs to be the official keeper of it? The Helpful One 21:38, 19 January 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Thehelpfulone! I'm delighted to meet you! I would LOVE help on the staff and contractors page. It's sort of terrible. I do have a Foundation Wiki account - name change now that I'm officially an employee of the Foundation. What do you envision? Would you like to have this conversation via email? And welcome to Meta! Although you removed yourself from the SPCom members list, I believe we're splitting it up into "Members" and "People who want to help out", so please do stay if you're not eligible to be a member. :-) The Helpful One 19:57, 17 April 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you.
- You may not have seen my comments which I removed before removing myself from the members' list.
- What rubbed me the wrong way was: I was trying to ascertain things (to try to give better/more helpful suggestions), only to have someone try what looked an awful lot like an end run to me. "If you don't like the questions someone is asking, try to isolate (or better excise) the questioner(s)."
- I'm not saying that's what happened (and in the past I've had great respect for snowolf and others there), but the whole thing left a rather bad taste in my mouth after that.
- We're all volunteers here, and I think perhaps, it might behoove a few to recall that. And holding prejudice against readers versus "number of edits"... meh.
- Anyway, thanks again. And to be clear, my experience with you has always been positive as I recall, and that continues today : )
- I wish you well : ) - Jc37 (talk) 20:13, 17 April 2012 (UTC)
[edit] ?
I think you might need to narrow the scope of the redirects your bot is "fixing". [5] Not all of these are necessary. Killiondude (talk) 23:00, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
- I've narrowed it as much as possible, the script cannot differentiate between which ones on a page to fix and which ones not to (as far as I know) - each page that it is now running on is on that has a link to one of the namespaces that is going to be deleted - if there are other links that it fixes there's nothing I can do about that unfortunately - but it will be in the same edit so I'm limiting any excess unnecessary edits. I know that this is usually a task that we say don't fix but as we're deleting the namespaces, all these links must be fixed first (if we get a few changes that aren't essential, then I think we need to just let them happen.) :) The Helpful One 23:03, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
[edit] Links to other help pages
Replacing {{H:f}} with {{languages}} you remove the links to other help pages. Please restore these links. One way (at least on the English language help pages) is to simply revert your replacement of {{H:f}} by {{languages}}. I modified Template:H:f Help to use {{languages}} [6].--Patrick (talk) 09:23, 21 April 2012 (UTC)
[edit] Slovenian help pages
Hello THO, the work is almost finished, apart from the slightly difficult ones, although there seems to be more. However, there is a problem with the Slovenian pages. Transcluding {{H:f}} on those pages doesn't add {{Languages}}, see for example this page. Do you know how to fix that? Kind regards, Mathonius (talk) 02:26, 26 April 2012 (UTC)

I don't see any presedant discussion at Transcom nor translators-l. Rather volunteers wonders what are going on the list. --Aphaia (talk) 19:23, 26 April 2012 (UTC)

[edit] RfCU closure
Hi THO, thanks for closing the latest RfCU. While I'm probably nitpicking, for future reference, it should probably be made explicitly clear that CheckUser/oversight requests are an automatic fail if the candidate fails to gain 25 support votes and 70% approval. It's no big deal, but I read your closure as almost discretionary, so I thought I'd bring it up. :-) Cheers, PeterSymonds (talk) 06:50, 28 April 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Peter. I did read Oversight policy#Access before closing the RfCU but I went for the it is clear the community... as opposed to the numbers game so that the user wasn't totally discouraged from applying in the future providing he returns to normal levels of activity. I'll be sure to use a mixture of the numbers and advice from now on to make sure there are no misunderstandings as to how I closed it! :-D The Helpful One 11:08, 28 April 2012 (UTC)

Completely didn't realise about that. Shows how long its been since I logged into meta. Is there a nice non controversial way of blocking that account? I'm not a staff member anymore but I just kinda assumed that it would have been locked out like everything else. Seddon (talk) 00:41, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
- No problem at all, I'll request that your account is globally locked - essentially it means that you can't log in across all of the wikis (and you're logged out if you're already logged in). It's non-controversial because it's used for a lot of staff and if you do return back to the Foundation, then it's a simple job to unlock it again. The Helpful One 00:44, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

- No problem. I don't think the wiki's been locked, it's just that you might have been logged out (I certainly was for some reason), http://wikimania2011.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Attendees/en&action=edit can still be edited if you are logged in - IP editing is disabled on there by default. When https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=36571 is marked as RESOLVED FIXED, then we can be sure the wiki is locked. :) The Helpful One 13:48, 8 May 2012 (UTC)

Japanese pages you deleted has gone missing. We are very confused.
Can you find the missing pages back? --Frozen-mikan (talk) 15:45, 21 May 2012 (UTC)
- Hi there, I'm not quite sure I understand -- all of those pages were simply redirects, the pages have all had their links updates and you can see them at Template:H:f Help/ja. Is there a particular page you were looking for? All the pages have been moved to the /ja subpages within the Help: namespace, so for example for help on searching, you would go to Help:Searching/ja instead of ヘルプ:検索. Hope this helps, The Helpful One 15:49, 21 May 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you for your reply. I am very sad. In your way, someone must be to find a broken link in the Japanese Wikipedia. Although I do not want to do, that I will do. So goodbye. --Frozen-mikan (talk) 16:52, 21 May 2012 (UTC)
- Hi there, please could you provide me with the page where the links have broken? I'll look into fixing them for you on the Japanese Wikipedia. The Helpful One 16:55, 21 May 2012 (UTC)
- I noticed the same problem and compiled a list of pages with the broken interwiki links caused by these deletions (or moves without leaving redirects) for jawiki. And then Frozen-mikan started replacing the broken links with the new targets. So for the case of Japanese, it's getting solved.
- However, as far as I can see, other language wikis have also (historically?) referred to meta help pages, causing many similar broken interwiki links to the meta help pages. I briefly checked the situation in frwiki and found that there are more than 400 such broken links. (see a link around the top of w:fr:Aide:Préférences, for example).
- Do we want to (re-)create all the redirects from the old names (like Aide:Préférences) to the new names (like Help:Preferences/fr) on metawiki, in order to fix this kind of broken interlanguage links for all existing languages? That seems to be a reasonable way to solve it, at least less time-consuming than visiting all relevant wikis, finding broken links, and replacing them with the new links.--whym (talk) 12:14, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
