Abstract (maximum 500 words)

In his foreword to Invading the sacred[1] S. N. Balgangadhara, states that over the past few hundred years, the theoretical and textual study of India has been undertaken within the cognitive framework of America and Europe, and he examines whether this has provided a distorted picture of India. He considers that traditionally the English speaking elite in India hold knowledge that has been generated during colonial times, he opines that these descriptions are being subject to scrutiny for the first time as presently India's development has enabled these descriptions to be challanged, descriptions that "distort... deny access to their own experiences ... rob them of their inner lives", in her essay Three Vignettes--Personal Experiences of Hinduphobia,[2] Aditi Banerjee writes that "...when budding Hindu scholars do try to enter academia, the process is so politicised, that they either have to buy into existing academic dogma or else face a doomed academic career."

This work would attempt to examine the treatment of a sample of India related content on English Wikipedia and editing experiences in the Indian article environment and to draw conclusions and compare them with the above.
