In December 2011, there were 4,140 women of all ages from Austria who were interested in Wikipedia on Facebook.[2] In December 2011, Wikipedia was ranked the 6th most popular site in the country.[3] In the period between November 2010 and October 2011, 8.3% of the traffic to German Wikipedia was from this country.[4] On English Wikipedia, there are 33 articles women in politics and 11 more in a subcategory for Female MEPs for Austria . On English Wikipedia's Women's History Wikiproject, the most popular November 2011 article about an Austrian woman was Hedy Lamarr, ranked 44th overall with 135013 views during the month. There are 3 articles about women's association football clubs in this country on English Wikipedia. The project has few participants overall, with only 44 users identified as female and 516 identified as male.

The Foundation

During the 2011 Summer of Research, the WMF hired eight research fellows. Of these, only one was female, and she was from the United States. There were four males from American universities, The other researchers included men from a Japanese university, a Swiss university and a Canadian university. There were no research fellows, male or female, from this country. During the December 2011 fundraising appeal, no Austrians, men or women, were featured are part of the appeal.
