Wikipedia

Cook Islands provides 0.0002% share of all visits to all Wikipedia projects. 92.5% of these visits are to English Wikipedia, with another 1.8% going to German Wikipedia.[4] Cook Islands internet penetration is estimated at 4,102 people or 35.71% of the population.[5][6][7] There are few Cook Islands contributors on any Wikimedia project. There are no active participants, male or female, on Wikinews, Wiktionary, Wikisource or Wikiversity. The country does not have a national chapter, and there are have been no efforts to organise one.

One English Wikipedia, Netball in the Cook Islands was an article related to a women's topic in the Cook Islands that appeared as a DYK, where it had 2,400 views, and is assessed as a Good Article. It is the only Cook Islands Good Article about women, with three articles total being good and the other two featuring cyclones. There are only three articles in the Cook Islands Wikiproject classed B, one of which is about a man. Four articles about the Cook Islands have been Did You Knows, two of these were about women, one was about a cycle and one was about a man. There are five articles about national sport teams in the country, two of these are about women's teams. Between 22 November 2011 and 21 December 2011, the articles ranked the following based on article views:men's national football team (3407), women's national football team (246), men's national cricket team (210), national netball team (126) and men's national basketball team (114). Gender does not appear to factor into relative article popularity. There are 49 articles about members of the of the Parliament of the Cook Islands, with only being about a woman, Maria Heather. This correlates with the number of women actually in Parliament. There are five articles total about female politicians. Netball is one of the most popular women's participation sports in former and current Commonwealth countries. There are 3 articles about netball in this country on English Wikipedia. There are 0 articles about models from this country on English Wikipedia Cook Islands female related content on English Wikipedia seems fair given the size of the country and the possibility for articles. In December 2011, elections were held for English Wikipedia's Arbitration Committee. No women from this country ran for Arbitration Committee and no one from the Cook Islands has ever run for or been a member of the Arbitration Committee. There are no Cook Islands women who are administrators on English Wikipedia. Women from this country do not contribute much and they do not hold any leadership positions on English Wikipedia.

Coverage for of Cook Islands women on Wikinews projects is small to non-existent. A December 2011 search on English Wikinews for Women Cook Islands found 1 articles that mentioned both words[8], a search on Spanish Wikinews for Islas Cook mujeres found 0 articles that mentioned both words,[9] a search for Νήσοι Κουκ γυναίκες on Greek Wikinews had zero results,[10] a search for Ilhas Cook mulheres on Portuguese Wikinews had 0 results,[11] a search for איי קוק נשים on Hebrew Wikinews had 0 results, [12] and a search for Les femmes des Îles Cook on French Wikinews had 0 results.[13] Participation by Cook Islands women on any Wikinews project is similarly small: There are no female administrators on English wikinews from this country, nor are there any women from this country who are English wikinews accredited reporters. The same is true on Portuguese Wikinews. There is limited to non-existent participant and content on Wikinews.

Other Wikimedia projects face a similar lack of Cook Islands female participation. On English Wikisource, there are no female bureaucrats from this country.[14] There are no women from the Cooks who are administrators on incubator and no active women editors here, though to be fair, Incubator has few participants overall, with only 44 users identified as female and 516 identified as male. There are no bureaucrats, male or female, on MediaWiki.Org.[15] A Cook Island Maori Wikipedia has been started on Incubator but there are only 24 pages created on Raratogan Wikipedia, none of which currently feature women. There are no women from this country involved in leadership roles on English or German Wikiversity. On Wikisource, no Cook Islandsers are sysops.[16] They do not appear to be high percentage of viewers to any language Wikipedia.[17] Their participation as participants and contributors is minimal to non-existent.
