As the second largest multilingual population in the world, Indonesia has approximately 735 languages spoken across the country and Bahasa Indonesia as the official language.[1]
- The Chapter and its projects
Wikimedia Indonesia established and recognize legally in Indonesia on 2008 and approved as chapter on 2009. Founded by 19 volunteers, two of the founders are women. In 2009 Wikimedia Indonesia deployed it first ambitious project Free Your Knowledge 2010 organized mainly by women committee and took seven months in design, preparation, and internal training, it runs on 15 thousand dollar (US) budget. The competition system tried in academic (universities) setting have a repeating result of having women winners either on the first position or women majority winners within top five position (tried four times in different locations and different languages wikipedia). The system replicate its success in increasing very active users and for the first time in 2011 the system undergo a "non-competition" mode in Wikimedia-Lontar project for English and Indonesian Wikipedia. The replication projects and capacity building in 2011 funded by Wikimedia Foundation grant costing around 40 thousand dollars. Other standard practices for projects accountability also established. Wikimedia Indonesia is using wiki as a reporting platform for project finances cash flow and the finance report is praised as "revolutionary", landing the chapter to co-manage a $1 million dollar media grant with the other two media organization from The Ford Foundation. Wikimedia Indonesia also shares their experience as a chapter in Chapter and Wikimedia Project Primary Challenges post. The project manager visualize how to integrate a sustainable new editors into community in the diagram Global Volunteer Leaders On Wiki that suggested effort should be aim for people not content, while the content is a by product.
- Technology, adoption, and challenge
According to number of articles, Indonesian Wikipedia ranked 21th out of 284 all Wikipedias in the world, with 40 very active Wikipedians and 357 active contributors in January 2011.[1][2] In December 2011, there were 7,940 women of all ages from Indonesia who were interested in Wikipedia on Facebook.[3] In December 2011, according to Alexa, Wikipedia was ranked the 12th most popular site in the country.[4] Netball is one of the most popular women's participation sports in former and current Commonwealth countries. There is 1 article about netball in this country on English Wikipedia. There are 16 articles about models from this country on English Wikipedia.
- Wikinews, Wikisource, Wikiversity, Wikibooks, and Other Projects
In December 2011, according to Alexa, Wikinews was ranked the 46,231th most popular site in the country.[5] A December 2011 search on English Wikinews for Indonesia Women found 20 articles that mentioned both words.[6] A December 2011 search on Spanish Wikinews for Indonesia mujeres found 2 articles that mentioned both words.[7] A December 2011 search on Portuguese Wikinews for mulheres Indonésia found 5 articles that mentioned both words.[8]
In December 2011, Wikiversity was ranked the 70,815th most popular site in the country.[9] There are no women from this country involved in leadership roles on English or German Wikiversity. Their participation is minimal to non-existent.
In December 2011, according to Alexa, Wikibooks was ranked the 2,182th most popular site in the country.[10]
[11] There is 1 man and 0 women on the language incubator who use Javanese as their native language.[12] There are 18 men and 0 women on the language incubator who use Indonesian as their native language.[13]
- The Foundation
During the December 2011 fundraising appeal, no Indonesians, men or women, were featured as part of the appeal. During the 2011 Summer of Research, the WMF hired eight research fellows. Of these, only one was female, and she was from the United States. There were four males from American universities, The other researchers included men from a Japanese university, a Swiss university and a Canadian university. There were no research fellows, male or female, from this country.

Indonesia is a country in South East Asia which comprising of 17,508 island and 238 million citizens. The official language of this country is Bahasa Indonesia and it has approximately 735 languages spoken across the country.
