F1

Version F1[edit]

General comments[edit]

  • I like this, but I feel that the child isn't clear enough. I assumed that it would be a child in the middle of the logo, but I don't think I would have gotten that out of context. Maybe combine it with one of the other logos child icons? Sethwoodworth 19:29, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm not sure if I will be able to make obvious that the figure is a child - drawing a face might help, but my trials so far were a disaster. As to SunCreator's concern, I've made two new versions of the logo, both of which should look fine when small (I actually prefer the abstract version over the other two, but am not sure if it isn't too whimsical - what do you guys think?)... • I like this logo. It's a fun idea, and the colouring is lovely - the multicoloured-on-brown reminds me of some textile patterns I remember, in a good way... I think even when small this logo is fine; it doesn't particularly need to be obvious what it is. I strongly prefer the version with books. I agree that the child isn't very clear, but I think adding a face would probably be a bad idea. Maybe darken the child a bit? Has a tendency to vanish. --Mcld 17:06, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Good stuff Mcld. I was just about to download the svg and mock something up too. I think that putting a different child would be good. I also agree that the child should be darker, it blends in, and is pretty eurocentric. I'm also not sold on *that* particular child or color scheme in Mcld's mockup. But right idea. • Once again, this logo has potential, but there are WAY too many books, and the overall logo is too complex. Tkgd2007 01:15, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • I noticed that someone changed my description on the main page from a "large head" surrounded by books, to a "child". First, on my LCD flat panel screen, the head is mostly invisible unless I move my head in certain directions--there just isn't enough contrast against the white background. Additionally, being a soft peachy color, the "child" is obviously Caucasian, which does impart a certain discriminatory nature to the logo, or at least a preferential one. Second, "large head" is far more descriptive of the logo. That's not a child. It's a humongous round ball representative of a head, attached to a little bitty body (a blop of green color too small to make out the details) surrounded (almost imprisoned) inside a tower of books. It is reminiscent of a nightmare that a young child who hates reading might have. Or a fantasy for an especially avid reader. Scary/pleasurable is in the eye (and experiences) of the beholder. I like F2 much better as a concept, but the "large head" again does not work well. It could be replaced by the second child, and I think it could work as a logo. The circular swirling lines should be thickened slightly; they are too wispy and tend to disappear on an LCD monitor, too, even at full-size. The favicon looks great on my LCD screen, but in the main one, they just disappear. --Willscrlt (Talk) 04:47, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    • About the child, I'm not sure what skin color to give him - because whatever it is, it'll either be discriminatory or unnatural. Should I make other versions of the logo, keeping that in mind? I'll try to find a color between pink and brown, and try to find a middle ground that would not be as obvious about race. If one has a color that feels semi-natural and doesn't discriminate, I'd love if he/she could post it. As for making the swirl thicker, I'll work on that. And as for the nightmare, I never realized that. The logo was inspired by a pillar of books, seeming infinite due to two mirrors at its ends at the Prague library (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:M%C4%9Bstsk%C3%A1_knihovna_v_Praze). It always fascinated me, but I do get how one could get nightmares from it... Mirek2 16:50, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
      • Just saying this on a spur, but what about the single child with the giant head being replaced with a group of multiple children, of different races? This would solve the discrimination problem, and also the "humongous head" that Willscrlt pointed out. James.Denholm 09:22, 20 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A bit ambiguous. I thought that it was a mouse surrounded by a bookshelf until I read the comments. S8333631 02:54, 2 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think is the best choice. This shows a logo similar to the logo of the Wikimedia Foundation, and I think it ought to used. The ones without text or books look plain. Version 1.6 [removed] is a bit ugly, while the 2.1 [now version 3] and 2.2 [version 3 without text] versions are horribly plain. 220.255.4.136 08:35, 5 July 2008 (UTC) I think is the best choice. --Dálmata 13:03, 24 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose Oppose i like f1 and f3 better

I vote for it. It's highly stylized and shows what it is: a library for child(ren). Kazkaskazkasako 18:24, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I love it. In my honest opinion, this might be the best of the logo suggestions. Trevor Tuominen 13:41, 11 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Version F4[edit]

  • In my opinion, this is by far the best proposal. The main bookcase is too busy and cluttered, and it's not at all clear what it is. The adult book holding the hand of the kid book is absolutely perfect, and a great logo. It's not just the best on this page, but the best of all the remaining proposals. --HappyDog 11:59, 14 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • So that's what this is supposed to represent. I looked at the full-sized version, and couldn't figure out what it was. Too abstract for me. --Willscrlt (Talk) 00:14, 22 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
