There are several potential projects for Wikimedia Canada, including:
- Organise drives to produce free photos of Canadian locations
- Establish charitable organization
- Organize distribution of Wikimedia material to areas of Canada with poor access to libraries and the Internet
- Encourage creation of Aboriginal Wikipedias
- Launch a program to encourage local history, geography additions
- Buy web addresses
- Establish press presence for Wikinews
- Petition Canadian governments to allow Commons to use some photos under crown copyright
Some proposed activities may count as lobbying and would have to be done by a body other than WMC
- Petition Canadian governments to release their work into the creative commons
- Comment A good deal of those are already public domain, i.e. if over 50 years old, though there are some disputes as to if the US 100-year copyright rule applies nonetheless. Some images from S. Holland's Landforms of British Columbia we might see fair use status for, i.e. as they've already been released/OK'd for use in other web resources, such as http://bivouac.com.Skookum1
