It is proposed to start an India chapter of the Wikimedia. We believe that it is important to spread the concept of free knowledge in India.

This page is for discussion about the proposal for an India chapter of Wikimedia. This chapter can help coordinate various Indian language Wikipedias and spread the Wikipedia word in India.

• An IRC meeting on September 30, 2004 at 15:30 IST. For a summary of the discussion, please see 2004 IRC meeting.
• The discussions have been re-initiated in November 2007, and several people have responded enthusiastically on the WikimediaIndia-l mailing list (please see the November 2007 archive). A draft of proposed bylaws is available here.

	Invite Indian Wikipedian editors to join WikimediaIndia-l and invite them to participate in the discussion for formation of Wikimedia India chapter. Discuss the initial funding: nominal charges for forms and registration, website hosting and domain name etc. Discuss initial registered office. Discuss selecton of initial Board of Directors. Discuss membership fees. Discuss projects and activities.
