This section is concerned with the reuse of files from Open-Access sources. Highlights are being collected by way of Open Access File of the Day. Below, some of the files are listed that were uploaded and embedded into Open-Access-related pages. For tracking file use, see also use across Wikimedia of files in Category:Open access (publishing) on Wikimedia Commons, and changes in the last 720 hours on articles in the Category:Open access (publishing) on Wikimedia Commons or in Category:Images from journals Wikimedia Commons.

Categorization of pages and files is not very harmonized across or even within individual Wikimedia projects. The aim here is thus to build a consistent set of categories that allows for good discoverability and is easily maintainable and expandable. The initial focus is on Wikimedia Commons.
The overall structure is as follows, with slight variations for different publishers and journals. It is intended to be converted to "Media of" later.

Events attended in the framework of this project are documented at Wikimedian in Residence on Open Science/Events.
The journals RNA Biology and ZooKeys have been partnering with Wikimedia projects for a while, but other journals and publishers have recently signaled their interest as well. A cooperation with PLoS Computational Biology has been started to publish review articles suitable for reuse on the English Wikipedia - the first article in this track has already been accepted, and publication is due once some technical hurdles have been overcome.
Mentions of the project in the media are documented here.
