Wikipedia camaraderie

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki
(English) This is an essay. It expresses the opinions and ideas of some Wikimedians but may not have wide support. I am prodded to begin this page by a few things I've seen during my short time here.

One, a debate about whether a discussion of Wikipedia guidelines is or is not humorous, and contributes or does not contribute to a sense of cameraderie among Wikipedia contributors.

Two, a continuing and at times vigorous debate about the definition and application of NPOV and whether Wikipedia is bound to adhere to it in all circumstances. Does NPOV imply rationalism and the Scientific method or not?

Three, a sense among some Wikipedians that some Wikipedia "administrators" (not sure if this is actually the correct term) have been using their positions to make their lives unpleasant, leading in at least one case that I'm aware of to someone leaving Wikipedia.

I think there'll be a lot of discussion on this. For now I can only say that "Wikipeidans", in general, are doing this for free when they could be doing other things. A sense that they're accomplishing something useful in an enjoyable way is almost all of their reward.
