Flickypedia soft launch and a huge thank you[edit]

Dear fellow Commons photographer,

I hope this message finds you well. As you might already know, the Flickr Foundation has been busy creating a new Flickr-to-Commons bridge (“Flickypedia”) this year. After a successful demo at the GLAM Wiki Conference in Montevideo, the Flickr Foundation team is now inviting all members of the Commons Photographers User Group to be the first to review their alpha, reporting any technical issues or other feedback via the Flickypedia project talk page.

At the same time, this message is an opportunity for me to thank you for your trust and support over the past couple of years. Since 2017, we've grown into being one of the largest user groups in the Wikimedia universe. I've tremendously enjoyed interacting with all of our members when it came to joint photowalks at Wikimanias, virtual Zoom meetings where we covered a wide variety of photography topics, as well as our annual “Most memorable shot of the year”, among many other events. As I'm not running for an official position in our current board election, this will be my last message on behalf of the user group to you. Thanks for all the happy moments we shared together over the years! I hope you'll continue creating free images for the millions of people we serve through Wikipedia and Commons.

All the best, --Frank Schulenburg (talk) 19:36, 9 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Stop reviewing your own uploads[edit]

Why are you reviewing your own uploads? You reviewed [[:File:Rozina Islam.png]] and [[:File:Tarique Ahmed Siddique.jpg]], that you yourself uploaded? Syrus257 (talk) 11:46, 11 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Syrus257: Hello, can you please cite a policy where it says I can't? The purpose of the review is to make sure that the licensing requirements are met and that the person reviewing the files has the necessary permission to do so. If you are worried about general practices that the uploader should not generally review their own files and you just wanted to raise this to me, do you think your approach was collaborative here? You left a rather discourteous note and went ahead to remove the reviewed tags while the licensing were perfectly fine. Your note would have been enough. You did not stop there, you sent me warning for another file that was perfectly okay. Thank you for realizing your mistake afterwards but you did not bother to remove the warning template from my talk page. ~ Nahid Talk 06:31, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry if my message offended you. That wasn't my intention. As for the policy, it says "as of 21 February 2012, image-reviewers may not review their own uploads unless the account is an approved bot. This ensures that at least two individuals, or one individual and a bot, have checked that the license choice is correct". Check it by yourself Commons:License review#Instructions for reviewers. I don't see anything here that indicates it's just a general practice. And as for the "permission needed" msg, I don't consider it as a "warning", it's more like a request. The original image had permission, and I immediately removed the tag as soon as I realized that. Anyways, sorry again if that msg too offended you. But I'm not going to remove it, because I think, judging by what I've noticed as a relatively new contributor, it's a general practice not to remove a message completely unless it's trully necessary. And one last question I humbly want to ask. Is there any other images that you reviewed which was also uploaded by you?~~~~ Syrus257 (talk) 11:17, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Syrus257, I must have forgotten the instructions. Apologies for that. Thank you for providing the link and glad to know that your intention was in good faith. As for the uploads, I honestly don't remember, and I may have done done for few. You are welcome to review. ~ Nahid Talk 18:03, 26 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:Salma Islam (cropped).jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you.

Syrus257 (talk) 13:12, 11 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

File:Yusuf Hussain Humayun.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Thanks for uploading File:Eamin Haque Bobby.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.
