Away with this page[edit]

Can we close this page in favour of SRM and WM:RFH? There is no reason why vandalism reports shouldn't be on those pages (and they are already there), and this page is very badly watched. --MF-W 14:23, 29 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I see I never have new ideas. --MF-W 14:24, 29 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I'm agree, as you say this page is poorly watched and these requests can be managed at RFH and SRM. In addition, I think having less pages to do the requests is easier for users who are not familiarized with Meta.--Syum90 (talk) 07:18, 2 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I'd like to point out that the current SRM/SRG/VR split is confusing, since a single report of vandalism (VR) could entail mass deletion of pages (SRM) and blocking of IP addresses and/or locking of accounts (SRG). So where should such a report go? I've been using VR, assuming that whoever responded to the vandalism report could do whatever deleting and blocking was necessary. This hasn't always worked as expected (especially when the reports seem to go unnoticed). Also, note that the instructions on SRM stress that problems on wikis with admins should be handled by local admins on those wikis, but this ignores the fact that much cross-wiki vandalism gets deleted by stewards independently of local admins (e.g., when IP addresses are being used to circumvent locks/bans). So when someone finally deprecates VR, they need to carefully update the instructions on pages like SR, SRM, SRG, etc., to clarify where vandalism reports should go. - dcljr (talk) 21:35, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, things should be updated if the page is finally deprecated. But SRM is already very backlogged and I don't think that adding-up on that page will help anyone. So my opinion is to leave this page or to create a SR/Vandalism reports where vandalism issues can be reported and a bot takes care of removing/archiving the stuff more frequently than on other pages. —MarcoAurelio 21:49, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The only way either of your suggestions is going to work is if stewards actually monitor whichever page and respond to requests in a timely manner. Is that more likely to happen if this page becomes a subpage of SR? (I don't see how things will improve if we leave the page as-is.) - dcljr (talk) 01:32, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Is there a difference between SRM and this page in your opinion? --MF-W 17:58, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Dcljr sums it up pretty well. It is in our hands that this or any other page succeeds. If no one is going to watch and work on these reports it does not matter where the page is located as the problem will still be the same. —MarcoAurelio 21:46, 7 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The problem is that most users who want to make a request don't know this page and also most users who can manage the requests are not watching the page, so this page is not being very useful. We can do at least two changes to resolve this situation, 1.- to manage the requests at SRM, a page highly known and watched by most users, making only few modifications on its instructions, or 2.- making this page more visible, for example renaming it as a SR subpage as suggested by MA. The fact is that in the current situation this page is not useful.--Syum90 (talk) 11:04, 9 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Note: Just pointed to this discussion from Steward requests/Miscellaneous#Talk about vandalism. That should get the attention of more stewards who are not currently watching this page. - dcljr (talk) 05:13, 10 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Or not. - dcljr (talk) 10:03, 10 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Now at Talk:Steward requests/Miscellaneous#Talk about vandalism. - dcljr (talk) 00:26, 11 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Actually there are more watchers on this page than on the /miscellaneous... Of course we can't know how many of those are stewards. Stryn (talk) 06:14, 10 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Aaaand… nothing is going to change. Typical. - dcljr (talk) 22:16, 24 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Shall I just be bold and redirect VR to SRM, since apparently no one's going to do shit about this? - dcljr (talk) 00:21, 15 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
+1. And making this page a disambiguation one. Matiia (talk) 01:00, 31 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment Comment The purpose of this page was meant to be about reports, not about requests for blocks. We have previously used it to write filters and identify problematic users, and trends. In essence it is the reporting of problems, not the solutions. If stewards are using this page to manage blocks and then it may be worth updating the introductory text to direct requests to your requests pages.  — billinghurst sDrewth 06:50, 31 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
This is now enacted by Stryn. — regards, Revi 16:35, 6 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
What is this page for? You put a report here, then nothing happens and after 7 days the report automatically goes away? This page might as well redirect to Meta:Sandbox? Alexis Jazz (talk) 17:16, 9 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
