Auto format on save

NoN Out of scope for Community Tech

  • Problem:

The syntax of wiki source code can be formatted differently. If there would be a “coding guideline“ for wiki code, it would be uniform and easier to read. The coding guideline would affect both HTML syntax and wiki syntax. This would concern unneeded white space at the end of a line, spaces in tags or in table syntax, for example. The HTML parts of the source code could get consistent with XTHML.

  • Who would benefit:

every editor

  • Proposed solution:

When a edit is saved the source code will be formatted automatically accordind to the guideline. The coding guideline could be developed and applied incrementally.

Discussion[edit]

Hi Heikolino1010: We're going to have to decline this proposal as being too big for our team to work on. This would require constant work as the communities make new decisions on the guidelines, and every wiki community would want something different. I'm going to have to archive this proposal. -- DannyH (WMF) (talk) 18:47, 20 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
