Correct the sexism and unconstitutionality of Wikipedia with respect to the german constitution (Grundgesetz)
Poses legal question rather than a technical feature
- Problem: Until recently the german constitution said, that every person born in germany has to be registered as male, female or without a gender entry. This is refelected by the wikipedia preferences options "Address me es he/she/(dont use an attribution). German Bundesverfassungsgericht has recently decided, that people who are nether male nor female have a right to be registered as belonging to a third gender (the name of which is left to the parliament to decide). The court gave a time frame of end of 2018 to change the law to this respect. With this change taking place the preferences options in wikipedia will be consdidered as an uncontitutional sexism in germany. wikipedia may be sued and sanctioned for this.
- Who would benefit: german wikipedia users
- Proposed solution: add another option in the preferences (the name of which will be decided later)

Discussion[edit]
- I note that the 3rd option is not "Don't use an attribution", but is "use gender neutral where possible". —TheDJ (talk • contribs) 10:15, 13 November 2017 (UTC)
- Also note that we don't ask you to register your gender, but which gender form you would prefer to be used for the translations/language. The option is part of the "Internationalisation"-options, not the "Basic information" section of your user profile. —TheDJ (talk • contribs) 10:18, 13 November 2017 (UTC)
This is an interesting question, and one that people at the WMF should learn and think about. I don't think that this is appropriate for the Wishlist Survey -- if this is a legal question, then folks in the legal department should determine what the appropriate response is. I'm going to put this proposal in the archive. We've let Legal know about the question. Thanks for participating in the survey. -- DannyH (WMF) (talk) 18:20, 13 November 2017 (UTC)
