Make files upload themselves without having to wait
Withdrawn by proposer (too many proposals)
- Problem:
- Some files need a long time to upload (especially videos)
- Who would benefit:
- All
- Proposed solution:
- The possibility of closing the page while leaving the upload works on its own and when finished I get a notification (includes all tools)

Discussion[edit]
- This is not feasible. Web pages cannot instruct a browser to do stuff after said pages are closed because it's a client-side denial of service vulnerability. MER-C (talk) 12:58, 10 November 2017 (UTC)
- @MER-C: It's useful to make this possible.Thank you --ديفيد عادل وهبة خليل 2 (talk) 14:33, 10 November 2017 (UTC)
- What harm does leaving the browser open provide? If it's to limit network usage, then how are you still uploading it? Also as pointed above, this isn't even really possible-once the POST is issued, it needs to finish through to completion. Even if you had a browser plugin that took over the request so you could hide the tab, it'd still have to upload in the background. For very large files, you may want to look into chunked uploads via the API. 😂 (talk) 03:54, 11 November 2017 (UTC)
- If I understand this correctly, it mean, creating a new desktop client for contributors to upload large files, with advanced features like upload only when idle?C933103 (talk) 21:23, 11 November 2017 (UTC)
The survey has a limit of three proposals per person; archiving this one at the proposer's request. -- DannyH (WMF) (talk) 21:38, 13 November 2017 (UTC)
