If you are requesting a merge of a global account with one or more unconnected local accounts as part of finalizing your single unified login (SUL) username, please specify which wikis and accounts you want to merge into your global account. These accounts were typically named "account name~wikiname". Please note that we can only merge a local account into a global account when the global account has no edits on the same wiki as the local account.

Making a request for your own account

For changing your username on one wiki:

Please include the following information in your request:

  • the old username,
  • the new username,
  • please sign ~~~~ request with your account for a simple move (first section), or sign this request with both the originating and the target accounts if you are requesting a merge (second section).

If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information. This helps ensure that you are requesting a rename for your own account. Please check before posting your request that the username you want is available. You can test that by going to the (new) user page and looking into the sidebar. If there is a link to user contributions, the account already exists, or check via Special:CentralAuth.

Private requests

Account renames are not private, once renamed many links from the old username to the new username will be permanently made. The reason submitted on the rename form (Special:GlobalRenameRequest) is private, and only visible by the renamers. Additional information that needs to be made in private may be sent using this direct wiki-email interface while logged-in.


Simple rename requests

If your rename request requires no stewardship, you have two options:

  1. Use the (new) request form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest; or
  2. Utilise the manual process outlined above, and submit it below in this section.

Please add new requests at the end of the section. Sections should be titled your username@global if you wish to be globally renamed. Please use this tool to check if the username is taken before filing a request.

Is it possible to merge my accounts (all named Eurocommuter)? I’ve been contributing “in burst mode” for a number of years as “Eurocommuter”. Not since 2013 though. I have a number of diagrams on commons used on English, French, German, Polish and I think Italian Wikipedia. I’ve been updating them regularly (not frequently; only when tre underlying data changed) I’ve had “Eurocommuter” account on each of the above wikis, so the conflict” is among my own accounts I believe. I used the same username/password on commons all wikis listed above. Would it be possible to rename all these accounts back to Eurocommuter? Many thanks! Hi, with 4000 edits you have enough edits to take over another account. With 0 edits in mainspace in total and no activity since 2012 I think "Johanna" can be usurped. Please post a message on the talkpage of Johanna in which you clearly explain the situation and ask permission to take over the account. (Dutch): Ik zou erg graag de accountnaam JP001 overnemen, aangezien deze naam op de Portugese Wikipedia vrij inactief is. Deze naam zou ik graag hebben omdat de naam die ik nu heb (Jasper Polleunis) niet echt privacy gericht is (eigennaam). De gebruiker JP001 heeft nul bewerkingen gedaan en is toch al sinds 15 april augustus 2013 actief. Mijn handtekening heb ik al gewijzigd.
