This page is for requests to have stewards grant or revoke administrator, bureaucrat, checkuser, and oversight rights on Wikimedia projects which do not have a local permissions procedure.

Old sections are archived. The list of archives is below.

  • Requests for bot flags are handled at SRB, and requests for global permissions are handled at SRGP.
  • If you are requesting adminship or bureaucratship, and your wiki has a local bureaucrat, submit your request to that user or to the relevant local request page (index).
  • For urgent requests, such as to combat large-scale vandalism on a small wiki, contact a steward in the #wikimedia-stewardsconnect IRC channel. In emergencies, type !steward in the channel to get the attention of stewards. Otherwise, you can type @steward for non-urgent help.

Other than requests to remove your own access or emergencies, please only make requests here after gaining the on-wiki approval of your local community.

Cross-wiki requests
Meta-Wiki requests

Using this page

1. Place the following code at the bottom of the appropriate section below:

==== Username@xxproject ====
{{sr-request
 |status    = <!-- don't change this line -->
 |domain    = <!-- such as en.wikibooks -->
 |user name =
 |discussion=
}}
(your remarks) ~~~~

2. Fill in the values:

  • domain: the wiki's URL domain (like "ex.wikipedia" or "meta.wikimedia").
  • user name: the name of the user whose rights are to be changed (like "Exampleuser"). In case you're requesting access for multiple bots, leave this field blank and give a list of these bots in your remarks
  • discussion: a link to the local vote or discussion about the rights change (for example, "[[ex:Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship#ExampleUser]]"). This should normally be for at least one week, but no more than three weeks (if so, you'll need to restart the process).

3. If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information.

Confirmation of signing confidentiality agreement

Certain permissions (notably CheckUser and Oversight) additionally require users to sign a confidentiality agreement. Users requesting these permissions must make a request below, and must also sign the confidentiality agreement with the Wikimedia Foundation. The request is placed on hold temporarily, until the receipt has been formally confirmed by the Office.

Requests

COPY THE FOLLOWING CODE to the bottom of the appropriate section below:

==== user name@xxproject ====
{{sr-request
 |status    = <!--don't change this line-->
 |domain    =
 |user name =
 |discussion=
}}

Administrator access

See administrator for information about the position. Requests for removal of access belong in another section. Admins doing cross-wiki work may wish to see IRC/wikimedia-admin for information about joining #wikimedia-admin.

If you are requesting administrator status to translate the wiki interface, this should be done at the BetaWiki project instead (see mw:localisation). You can ask questions in the IRC channel or on the mailing list.

If you are requesting adminship to handle one-time vandalism incidents or clearing a deletion backlog, please see Vandalism reports and Steward requests/Speedy deletions.

Stewards
Currently-active temporary permissions are listed at /Approved temporary; copy granted requests to the appropriate section there, stating the date of removal in the section header and at the bottom of the request. Please invite new sysops to the admin IRC channel.
Archiving
Requests only need remain listed below for a few days, and may afterward be removed as long as they have been copied to the subpage. Users who archive requests on that page, please check if the request was correctly added to the temporary subpage before removing it from this page.

For permanent sysopship please provide a link to the local community approval. For temporary sysopship please state for how long and for which tasks you need it, and link to a local announcement.

Bellavista1957@fa.wikisource.org

(I would like to become the Administrator in Wikisource Persian. I am working a lot on law in Iran, constitutions, and other legal documents. As there are no administrators, there are no welcome, no user aid, etc., there are unfinished articles which need either to be deleted or completed.) Bellavista1957 16:15, 2 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I see one inactive bureaucrat and a few administrator. Please make a local request and ask that bureaucrat to respond before any steward steps in. Thanks.--Jusjih 20:04, 2 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I can not identify in Wikisource any manager or any name that I can contact. Hope you have not mixed it with Wikipedia Farsi. I can see the name of Mardetanha as Steward who does not reply. Thank you --Bellavista1957 08:28, 3 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, as Jusjih said, there are some administrators and a bureaucrat in the project. Please see s:fa:Special:ListUsers/sysop for a list of administrators and s:fa:Special:ListUsers/bureaucrat for a list of bureaucrats (in this case, only one). Best regards, --Dferg 09:07, 3 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have filed a local request - Thank you --Bellavista1957 09:49, 3 May 2010 (UTC) I received a reply to my request for becoming Admin not from Kaveh the Admin of Wikisource but from Pedram.salehpoor . He wrote me that he will delete articles that I request to be deleted. Very strange!! how can he delete articles in Wikisource . He did not answer to my wish to become Admin in Wikisource. Could you please check this matter, . Thank you for your help. I wrote again in Kaveh page that I would like to become Admin and that he has to answer to my request.--Bellavista1957 07:38, 4 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Following is what I wrote to him: Where is the problem, I have requested to become Admin in Wikisource Farsi. Could you please answer to my request , I would like to become Admin in Wikisource--Bellavista1957 ‏۴ مهٔ ۲۰۱۰، ساعت ۰۷:۳۵ (UTC) --Bellavista1957 10:54, 4 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Bellavista, Pedram is a sysop in fa.wikisource. Could you please explain why you are blocked in fawiki? I would like to see you unblocked first, before we proceed with an RfA. Also, Please add the link to the local discussion in the space above. Thanks! --Jyothis 11:48, 4 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have also explained it to Mardetanha and asked for help from him and another Admin: Dear Colleague: This is the second time I ask for your help. I am Bellavista1957 , the author of Iranian Cultural Foundation, since days some people like Shirvanloo, Irani 444, Mehdi Abbasi, insult me, delete parts of the text, name of Farah Pahlavi, change the citations, change the source of the text, delete specially sentences cited from the constitution of the Foundation, like Persian language is a heritage of Perisan culture , change dictate of words or the word itself from Farsi to Arabic. HAMAN, one of the managers, I sked to block the page Iranian Cultural Foundation against vandalism. He did that and wrote in the discussion page of the Foundation, that there is no problem with my writings.

Despite protection of page and explanations of Haman, two users changed and deleted parts of this short article again and again. I wrote to HAMAN and asked for help again and complete protection of the page, in between Mehdi Abbasi who also deleted parts of the text, wrote Hay Donkey Stop!! . I protested against. I started to discuss with the users who made the changes, to find a compromise in the discussion page of the Iranian Cultural Foundation . But in the middle of discussion , Admin Mani cut my complete access to Wikipedia for two weeks.

there is a long list of complaints against Mani by authors.--Bellavista1957 15:13, 4 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This request should be marked as undone , since there is very small community , also we have at least two admins who keep eye on the project me and pedram . also we have inactive crat which with email you can reach him . so there is no to stewards to step in . Regards --Mardetanha talk 16:34, 4 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

For your Information Jyothis: I just received a mail from this salehpoor who created just a page for me and found out that I am working in Wikisource. The first words of his were threat to delete all my articles. Is this the process that someone wants to become Administratot to improve the quality of Wikisource Farsi and ultimately Wikipedia Farsi? I write here because I need your help. please help that my work of three months day and night not to be deleted, you see now they are active to cut the discussion with international stewards please stay with us and do not leave us alone with this troop, --Bellavista1957 16:39, 4 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Bellavista, please email the 'crat as Mardatehna has mentioned above. I will mark it as on hold, allowing you time to go back and request 'crat for the same. In any case you need a week of a local Rfa/Announcement and support for the request to be considered here. However, please note that it is quite unlikely to pass if you dont have support from other active users there. --Jyothis 18:48, 4 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Not done as I see two active administrator and one inactive bureaucrat. Please try to ask that bureaucrat first. If that bureaucrat remains inactive, requesting deflagging should be discussed locally before being brought here.--Jusjih 01:17, 23 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

JinJian@warwiki

I would like to apply as an administrator of waray-waray wikipedia. I already gained the support of the sole administrator of that domain. I hope that you will grant my request. Thanks. JinJian 01:36, 16 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please let the vote continue for some more days and see if you can get more votes in. Thanks --Jyothis 03:01, 16 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your kind attention, I'm willing to wait but I am not certain if more votes will come in. While I agree with you that building consensus will lead to a more credible decision, please take note that the waray-waray wikipedia has a very small community. Almost all of those listed in the current active user list are either bots or non-speakers of that language. Although it has relatively few users, the waray-waray wikipedia is growing. It may require the help of another administrator already and also to serve as his backup. If it pleases you, may I suggest that you give more weight on the recommendation of the only administrator for my nomination. He has been around for long time already and is a reliable and regular contributor. He may be one of the best person who can really assess whether another user deserve to gain access as a sysop of waray-waray wikipedia. Thank you once again. --JinJian 01:11, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
JinJian, While we appreciate your interest and work in the project, I would like to inform that with such a small community and only one vote, it would mostly be a temp adminship that can be granted for your request. For the weightage on votes, We would still need to give a time for community, (usually a week), before we consider the admin requests. Global sysops were created to fill the same need for helping small wikis with little or no admins and community. One a different note, Your recent edits seems to be bot edits and that does not really a standard way of doing it. if you are doing bot edits, may I request you to create a bot account and use that instead? Human accounts are not prefered to be used for bot edits. Thanks, --Jyothis 02:09, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The latest edits were about French communes. If there are around 30,000+ of them and you are determined to finish opening at least stub-class articles for each of them, you have to find ways to do it faster. Unfortunately I do not know how to program bots nor I was able to acquire bots creating French commune stubs. It may seem unorthodox but my latest contributions were done manually. However, as a precautionary measure, I have asked the admin to review the format before I started creating them. He found nothing wrong with it. Ultimately, I have high hopes that in the future these stubs will grow to become full articles.
I am still looking forward that you will grant my request so that the waray-waray wikipedia may respond faster to those concerns requiring the attention of admins. Waray-waray is still one of the remaining few that have only one resident administrator, especially for those that have more than 10,000 articles. Thank you once again. --JinJian 08:54, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Vote has been up since the 10th and only other admin voted yes. --Daniel Mayer (mav) 01:14, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for granting me admin access. --JinJian 03:54, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

SivaneshR@ta.wikipedia.org

(I want to maintain Strict Quality in the Tamil Wikipedia. I am a Native Tamil Speaker and have the ability to manage, sensor and edit large number articles. In view of the World Classical Tamil Conference to be held at my Home town i.e. Coimbatore more administrators are needed at Tamil Wiki. I have 24*7 access to the internet. I kindly request your good selves to consider my request favourably. ) SivaneshR 17:25, 22 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sivanesh, project has active bureaucrats. Please contact them and place an on wiki request in ta wiki. Thanks --Jyothis 17:32, 22 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Bureaucrat access

See bureaucrat for information about the position. In principle, requests for temporary bureaucrat access are not granted.
General note
There is an ongoing discussion regarding the minimum number of votes and overall participation to promote users to bureaucrat at Talk:Bureaucrat#Minimum_number_of_votes. Users are encouraged to assist in the development of a policy that allows stewards to not decide on whether a promotion is valid or not. Thank you.

Iltever@krcwiki

I am very active in the Karachay-Balkar Wikipedia and will continue so. Unfortunately, there are not many users in our Wikipedia. But we will continue to work. If I get a bureaucrat access, then our Wikipedia will become an independent and will not disturb anyone else. I hope for your understanding. Thank you. --Iltever 12:44, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

We tend to like to see a wiki have two bcrats. You are currently the only admin. I think Stewards can easily continue to deal with rights on the krc wiki for the time being. --Daniel Mayer (mav) 12:51, 15 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I totally disagree with Daniel. When a community asks for a bureaucrat they gain independence. It is good when stewards are not needed. Iltever has shown repeatedly to be a champion for his community, he has the trust of his community and this is more relevant then a fuzzy preference for two bureaucrats. GerardM 14:34, 15 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
In the project should be more active users (and admins). If there is only one user, who is the admin and bureaucrat, it threatens to take over the project. I would suggest mark request as refused, the same as other similar requests. LeinaD (t) 14:44, 15 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
According to Ethnologue, there are around ~100,000 of speakers of Karachay-Balkar language (yes, numbers are confusing, but the most precise one says somewhat more than 100,000). Counting that Internet access in Karachay-Balkar region is significantly lower than in, let's say, Lusatia (where Sorbian languages are spoken), we can't expect more than 10 active users for a long time. Thus, I would give to Iltever bureaucrat permissions. If something goes wrong, we can remove his permissions. The only requirement should be a clear explanation at Administrators page on krc.wp (in Karachay-Balkar, Russian and English) that any user can come here and report abuse of admin and bureaucrat permissions (in Russian or English). Before giving those permissions, I would like to hear other stewards that they feel convinced :) --Millosh 00:02, 16 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
There are more than 300 thousand (Russian Census 2002) Karachay-Balkars just in Russia, and 97% of them use the language. :)
However, you're right, unfortunately we can't expect many active users for a long time. Of course I'll perform your requirement, and thank you for your confidence. :) --Iltever 01:54, 16 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I want to give one more note: With admins who are able to give bot flags, bureaucratship in such circumstances wouldn't be necessary. However, this is not yet solved and we [stewards] should solve this issue in the future. --Millosh 07:55, 16 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Just to say that Iltever made requested page krc:Википедия:Администраторла and I may confirm that Russian and English version are the same (which matters, as the most of Karachay-Balkar speakers also speak Russian). I would ask Mav and Leinad to reconsider their positions :) --Millosh 05:36, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Iltever is doing great job at krc.wiki. The bureaucrat access will help him much as he will no longer need to go to meta for every minor task like bot flag or similar, the task always painful for us, non-natives in English. There is no much danger of his „overtaking“ the project, since he has proved to be a very adequate wikipedician with strong concerns about neutrality and quality. He does much not only in the Wikipedia itself but also in popularising it and generally the use of Karachay-Balkar in written form on the web; he also helps with useful advice and his newly acquired experience to other smaller wikipedias within the Russian language region (notably for me, to os.wiki). Amikeco 06:38, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to see what other stewards think, since what I said is still my understanding of our best practice. I'm willing to be convinced that this is a special case. --Daniel Mayer (mav) 01:18, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

CheckUser access

To request CheckUser information, see Meta:Requests for CheckUser information. This is the place to request CheckUser access. Note that temporary CheckUser access is not permitted and the temporary status is only used by Stewards.

Stewards
When someone asks for CheckUser status, please check the current policy before giving the status. There is an email template to request identification from the new CU. Do not grant CU access unless the user is identified to the Foundation. Breaching these rules may be cause for removing your steward access. When you give someone CheckUser, please list them on CheckUser, ask them to subscribe to checkuser-l, email checkuser-l-owner@lists.wikimedia.org so the listadmins know the person is allowed on the mailing list, and make sure they contact an op for access to #wikimedia-checkuser.

Oversight access

To request to have content oversighted, ask in #wikimedia-stewards, or email oversight-l@lists.wikimedia.org for requests regarding English Wikipedia. This is the place to request Oversight access. Note that temporary Oversight access is not permitted and the temporary status is only used by Stewards.

Stewards
Do not grant Oversight access unless the user is identified to the foundation, which will be announced on the Identification noticeboard. When you give someone oversight access, list them on Oversight.

Ningauble@en.wikiquote

I am an administrator at en.wikiquote. I do not have and am not requesting the oversight flag, but this seemed the best place to call attention to a potentially serious rights problem:
Features that are normally reserved for oversighters (show/hide) are inexplicably showing up when I use log and history pages at en.wikiquote this morning (but not when I am logged out). Would someone please investigate right away to find out whether access to these restricted tools is being handed out willy-nilly, perhaps due to some sort of software glitch or corruption. Thanks. ~ Ningauble 15:19, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It is the same for all of us I think ... --Herby talk thyme 15:23, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
All of whom? Does everybody who logs in have access to oversight!? ~ Ningauble 15:26, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No. RevisionDelete (like oversight, but without access to oversight-level suppression or suppressed material) has been enabled for admins site-wide. A technical description can be found here. You don't have access to suppressed material, or the ability to suppress material from administrators. PeterSymonds 15:28, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
(ec) Looks like admins - as a regular user on en wp I don't get it. I guess if you want to hide any mistakes you happen to have made now may be a good time...:) Or it is simply a form of oversight intended for admins (admins can reverse the changes of other admins by the look of it). --Herby talk thyme 15:31, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
See bug 18780 and the help page Peter linked to for more information. Cbrown1023 talk 15:32, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, this seems reasonable. But could somebody post an informative notice to whatever passes for an "Administrator's Noticeboard" in the affected wikis? Many thanks. ~ Ningauble 15:44, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Anyway... Thanks for cluing me in about the situation. Sorry if this was a bit off topic here, but I didn't know where else to ask, at least not where there would be such a quick response. I shared the news with other admins at Wikiquote, with some useful links. This request can be closed. ~ Ningauble 17:09, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Another admin, who seems to be an oversight ;) I hope reported bugzilla:23584 resolve the problem :) LeinaD (t) 18:57, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of access

If you're requesting the removal of your own status, make sure you're logged in to a global account. If you have multiple flags, specify which you want removed. Stewards may delay your request a short time to ensure you have time to rethink your request; the rights will not be restored by stewards once they are removed.

To request the removal of another user's status, you must gain consensus on the local wiki first. All discussion must take place on your local wiki. When there is community consensus that the user's access should be removed, a trusted person from that wiki should provide a link here to the discussion, a brief explanation of the reason for the request, and summarize the results of discussion. In either case, copy and paste the following text into the correct section (see instructions above). Please post requests at the bottom of the section.

Hugo.arg@lt.wikipedia

The reasons for removal of User:Hugo.arg administrator’s rights of lt.wikipedia are the following: harsh violation of etiquette (not the first one, the user was warned several times), offensive behaviour towards the user of other nationalities, insulting of other lt.wikipedia users, edit wars, the creation of inappropriate and offensive redirects etc. The summary of voting and discussion. The result of the vote is 16:6 in favor of removing the user’s admin rights. 6 administrators, including two bureaucrats, voted in favor of removing the rights (according to lt.wiki rules, their votes are doubled), none of the active administrators voted against the removal of the user’s administrator rights. So, to sum up the vote, the lt.wikipedia community decided that user:Hugo.arg should be sacked from his admin rights as it is said in the rules. User:Hugo.arg did not regret doing any of the violations. So, in the name of all lt.wikipedia community I request to help us to bring this vote into effect.
