AWA 2026 Fellowships/Home
The African Wikipedian Alliance (AWA), 2026 fellowships powered by Code for Africa (CfA) empower African Wikipedians-in-Residence across three key initiatives in partnerships with the Norwegian Embassy of Foreign Affairs and Digital Democracy Initiatives.These fellowships aim to close critical content and contributor gaps on Wikipedia, Wikidata, and Wikimedia Commons.
1. AWA Inclusion Fellowship In partnership with the Norwegian Embassy, this fellowship supports four Wikipedians in improving content on gender equity, LGBTQ+ rights, and climate awareness across Southern Africa and neighbouring countries for 6 months.
2. AWA Digitalise Youth Fellowship In collaboration with EPD, AfricTivistes, KAF, and others,will support five fellows in amplifying youth voices and promote digital rights in the Sahel, West Africa, and the Horn of Africa, focusing on cybersecurity, freedom of expression, and online civic engagement for 6 months.
3.EmpowerHer In collaboration with EPD will support 4 fellows in leading the International Women's Day campaign 2026 to close the gender gap and increasing the visibility of African women on Wikipedia and Wikidata in the Sahel, neighbouring West Africa, and the Horn of Africa in the month of March.
Each program will allow fellows to serve as local change-makers by organizing events, leading technical training, and collaborating with civic organisations to enhance the quality, diversity, and accessibility of African content on Wikimedia platforms.
