AWA Digitalise Youth Project/Muib Shefiu
Overview
[edit]The AWA Digitalise Youth Project 2025 is designed to address content gaps on Wikipedia and Wikidata on issues related to the African Union Convention on Cybersecurity and Personal Data Protection, e-democracy, digital mobilisation in social movements, SDG16, freedom of expression, and human rights in Sudan and Somalia.
Timeline
[edit]- The project will run from June 2025 – December 2025.
How to participate

Sign in or Create a New Account on Wikipedia if you haven't.
Register on the event page and the dashboard to track your contributions.
Attend virtual training sessions, participate in the edit-a-thon and complete the participants contribution form.
Create, expand and/or translate articles and Wikidata items related to the focus area from the topic list.
While publishing your edits, include this hashtag to your edit summary: #AWA-DYF
Activities
[edit]Trainings: Virtual trainings which will focus on creating and improving Wikipedia articles/Wikidata items about SDG16, e-democracy, freedom of expression, and human rights in the Sahel region, West Africa, and the Horn of Africa.
Edit-a-thons: There will be monthly guided edit-a-thons and participants will be reimbursed with $10 dollars per month.
Content Translation Training: There will be virtual trainings on the translation tool on Wikipedia to bridge the language gaps between English Wikipedia and other local languages.
