AWA Inclusion and Climate Justice Project/Rhoda James
The AWA Inclusion and Climate Justice Project is dedicated to fostering inclusive knowledge and enhancing content quality on gender equity, LGBTQ+ rights, and climate justice across Wikimedia projects in Southern Africa and neighboring countries. While open to everyone, we especially encourage youth from Malawi, Zambia, and Tanzania to contribute by creating and improving relevant content on Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, and Wikidata.
Activities
[edit]Edit-a-thons: Edit-a-thons will focus on creating and improving articles about gender equity, LGBTQ+ rights, and climate justice in Southern Africa. Participants will add reliable sources, infoboxes, and categories to help highlight important topics and people working in these areas on Wikimedia platforms.
Data-a-thons: These collaborative events will focus on creating, enriching, and connecting Wikidata items related to gender equity, LGBTQ+ rights, and climate justice in Southern Africa.
Image and Multimedia Upload Campaign: To improve visual representation, the campaign will encourage uploading images and media showing activists, events, and organizations promoting gender equity, LGBTQ+ rights, and climate justice. All content will be shared on Wikimedia Commons with proper licensing.
Content Translation into African Languages: To promote inclusion and accessibility, selected articles and biographies will be translated into African languages. This will help more people across the continent learn about gender justice, LGBTQ+ rights, and climate resilience.
