Preferred name Affandy Murad
What languages do you speak, and at what fluency level? (Please include your English proficiency.) ID-N, EN-3, MS-1
What region(s) of the world do you have experience with, and what kind of experience do you have? (“Experience” can mean you have lived or worked there or are currently living or working there; you’re familiar with the culture and language; etc.) I was born and raised in Jakarta, Indonesia and am currently working there as a programmer. In 2016, I worked for one year in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia, also as a programmer.
What Wikimedia project(s) do you actively edit? And in what language(s)? I mainly contribute to Wikipedia Bahasa Indonesia, where I am one of the administrators. I also contribute to Wikipedia Basa Betawi as an administrator. In addition, I contribute to Wikimedia Incubator projects, specifically Wikivoyage Betawi, Wiktionary Betawi, and Wikibooks Betawi. I also contribute to other Wikimedia projects, including Wikimedia Commons, Wikidata, Wikivoyage Indonesia, Wiktionary Indonesia, and Wikifunctions.
What affiliate(s) are you actively involved with? In what capacity are you involved? Do you serve in a leadership role or have you in the past? I actively contribute as a member of the Wikimedia Indonesia chapter. I previously served as the official contact person from 2021 to 2022 during the COVID-19 period and continue to volunteer with the Wikimedia Jakarta Community to this day. I have also worked on several projects with Wikimedia Indonesia staff, including the Respati Project in 2020. Currently, within the Wikimedia Jakarta Community, I am leading WikiSeratSerèt 2 as a project co-leader until May 2026.
Have you served on any committees (movement-related or otherwise)? And what was your role on the committee(s)? I have never participated in any official committees within the Wikimedia movement. This would be my first experience serving on a committee if I am elected as a member.
Please describe any experience you have with conflict resolution and/or consensus building. I have experience in conflict resolution and consensus building through both my professional work and my involvement in the Wikimedia movement. As an IT Supervisor, I regularly bridge communication between technical teams and users across multiple regions in Indonesia, addressing misunderstandings related to web-based system development and maintenance. I completed Google’s Project Management course on Coursera in 2023, which strengthened my approach to handling conflicts in diverse project environments. I also serve as a learning facilitator for Project Management and Cybersecurity courses at Dicoding, where I guide learners, manage discussions, and help align expectations. Within Wikimedia, I have applied these skills as an administrator on Wikipedia Bahasa Indonesia and Wikipedia Bahasa Betawi. On Wikipedia Bahasa Indonesia, I have mediated article deletion discussions by guiding contributors and administrators through talk pages while upholding core content policies. As project staff for the Respati Project and as a former liaison for the Wikimedia Jakarta Community, I have also mediated disagreements and facilitated constructive online dialogue, particularly during the COVID-19 period.
In your ideal world, what does the affiliate model and ecosystem look like? In my view, an ideal affiliate model is one in which affiliates are able to independently and transparently uphold rules that align with the values of the Wikimedia movement. Affiliates should be able to foster an inclusive environment that respects the rules, culture, and social norms of their respective regions. At the regional level, affiliates are expected to collaborate peacefully, exchanging perspectives and ideas in order to achieve shared goals. These conditions together form what I consider an ideal affiliate ecosystem.
In your ideal world, what are AffCom’s roles and responsibilities in relation to the movement and affiliates? Within the movement and affiliate ecosystem, AffCom should act as a mentor and connector between affiliates and the Wikimedia Foundation, supporting the alignment of affiliate practices with movement values. AffCom is also expected to facilitate conflict resolution within and between affiliates in a fair and context-aware manner, and to learn from these experiences in order to help prevent and mitigate similar challenges across the movement.
What role within AffCom are you most interested in: advisory or voting member? Based on my current background and in line with AffCom’s recommendation for newcomers, I have decided to apply as an advisory member.
