| Preferred name | Maor Malul | |
|---|---|---|
| What languages do you speak, and at what fluency level? (Please include your English proficiency.) | ES-N; EN-5; LAD-5; PT-4; HE-4; DE-2; GUC-2 | |
| What region(s) of the world do you have experience with, and what kind of experience do you have? (“Experience” can mean you have lived or worked there or are currently living or working there; you’re familiar with the culture and language; etc.) | I was born and raised in Latin America and the Caribbean (Venezuela) and have lived since 2013 in the Middle East/West Asia (Israel) | |
| What Wikimedia project(s) do you actively edit? And in what language(s)? | I mostly contribute to Wikipedia in Ladino, where I am the sole admin; I also contribute (in a smaller scale) on other language Wikipedias (Spanish, Portuguese, Hebrew, Wayuunaiki) as well as Commons and Wikivoyage | |
| What affiliate(s) are you actively involved with? In what capacity are you involved? Do you serve in a leadership role or have you in the past? | I am a founding member and was a Board Member of Wikimedia Venezuela; I am also a member of Wikimedia Israel and was one of the founders of WikiCemeteries UG | |
| Have you served on any committees (movement-related or otherwise)? And what was your role on the committee(s)? | I have served previously in the AffCom in different roles. I am a current advisor to the committee but I was a voting member between 2013 and 2019 | |
| Please describe any experience you have with conflict resolution and/or consensus building. | I have been trained in Conflict Resolution by the WMF and have served in the Conflict Resolution Sub-Committee of the AffCom | |
| In your ideal world, what does the affiliate model and ecosystem look like? | It should be a system in which every actor is committed to transparency, organization, respect for established rules and more importantly, the values of the Wikimedia movement. One that doesn't sacrifice community development for political correctness and metrics, or the other way around | |
| In your ideal world, what are AffCom’s roles and responsibilities in relation to the movement and affiliates? | I think that AffCom should be like that mentor/guide that welcomes you, the young affiliate, into the Wikimedia ecosystem, helps you take your first, baby steps and and is there to advise you on how to walk straight and avoid the little and not-so-little stones on the way; the one that will help you cool down any disagreement between the members of your affiliate and/or other affiliate and make sure that everyone is on the same page and agree on how to move forward, like adults, while making sure from day minus one what the expectations are -this is why preliminary interviews with prospective affiliates are so important! But also the one who will warn you of something you are doing wrong but will sit down with you to help you correct the situation so that it doesn't happen again and will learn WITH you -because AffCom members also learn from affiliates, especially young ones! | |
| What role within AffCom are you most interested in: advisory or voting member? | Unfortunately, I have two personal projects that require my complete dedication, so I won't have enough time to participate as a full voting member in the coming months; I'd love to continue supporting the committee as an advisor if needed | |
