What languages do you speak, and at what fluency level? (Please include your English proficiency.) Hindi – Native,

English – Fluent

What region(s) of the world do you have experience with, and what kind of experience do you have? (“Experience” can mean you have lived or worked there or are currently living or working there; you’re familiar with the culture and language; etc.) I am from India and have lived and studied here my entire life. I have strong familiarity with the South Asian region, including its cultural diversity, language diversity, and the evolving needs of emerging Wikimedia communities.

Through my involvement in open-source and Wikimedia technical work, I also understand how contributors from different regions collaborate globally. This gives me insight into challenges faced by newer communities in terms of onboarding, technical access, and sustained participation.

What Wikimedia project(s) do you actively edit? And in what language(s)? I actively contribute to MediaWiki development and testing. My work includes reviewing and improving automated test cases, contributing to grammar transformation tasks (Task T115217), and working on PHPUnit/QUnit consistency to ensure better cross-language reliability.

Through this experience, I have gained an understanding of the technical foundation of the Wikimedia ecosystem, CI workflows, and how software quality impacts affiliates and editors globally. My contributions are primarily in English.

What affiliate(s) are you actively involved with? In what capacity are you involved? Do you serve in a leadership role or have you in the past? I am not currently a formal member of a Wikimedia affiliate. However, I am actively involved with the Wikimedia technical community through MediaWiki development, testing, and open-source collaboration.

Through AffCom, I want to take a more structured role in supporting affiliates, especially those in emerging regions, by contributing an analytical and technical perspective that complements community-focused voices.

Have you served on any committees (movement-related or otherwise)? And what was your role on the committee(s)? I have not previously served on Wikimedia committees. However, I have experience contributing to structured, collaborative open-source technical tasks where I follow guidelines, coordinate with contributors, meet expectations, and take responsibility for assigned work.

This has helped me develop discipline, communication skills, and a clear understanding of accountability—qualities that I am eager to bring into a governance-related committee like AffCom. I am motivated to learn quickly and serve effectively.

Please describe any experience you have with conflict resolution and/or consensus building. In technical and collaborative environments, I handle disagreements with calm communication and a focus on understanding all perspectives. My approach is to identify shared goals, clarify misunderstandings, and work toward a balanced, consensus-based solution.

I prioritize fairness, neutrality, and transparent communication. I believe conflicts should be resolved through respectful dialogue, evidence-based reasoning, and an emphasis on community well-being. This approach has consistently helped me maintain positive working relationships.

In your ideal world, what does the affiliate model and ecosystem look like? In my ideal world, the affiliate ecosystem is clear, supportive, and accessible to communities at all stages of development. Affiliates would have transparent processes, strong guidance, and consistent mentorship to help them grow sustainably.

The ecosystem would promote collaboration between affiliates, technical contributors, and regional communities. It would especially empower emerging communities by reducing barriers, encouraging innovation, and ensuring equitable access to resources, opportunities, and recognition.

In your ideal world, what are AffCom’s roles and responsibilities in relation to the movement and affiliates? AffCom’s key responsibilities include guiding affiliates through recognition, supporting them throughout their lifecycle, and maintaining clear and transparent standards. The committee plays an essential role in helping affiliates develop strong governance, resolve challenges, and operate in alignment with Wikimedia’s mission and values.

AffCom should also strengthen communication between affiliates and the movement, ensuring consistent expectations, fair evaluations, and long-term sustainability. By offering mentorship and structured feedback, AffCom can help affiliates build healthier and more resilient communities.

What role within AffCom are you most interested in: advisory or voting member? I am interested in serving as a voting member. I want to actively participate in evaluations, decision-making, and supporting the affiliate ecosystem through structured contributions and thoughtful governance.

I believe my analytical and technical background will bring a valuable perspective to the committee’s work.
