October 2021[edit]

As of October 15th, 34 Wikimedia Chapters (89%), 02 Thematic Organizations (100%), and 109 active User Groups (81%) were compliant with required reporting. This represents an increase for Chapters (58% last quarter) and User Groups (79% last quarter), and stability for Thematic Organizations. The change has to do with the seasonal nature of reporting and is an expected annual trend. Most of the affiliates follow the Grants cycle of reporting which is different from their Annual reporting cycle. Dumisani and Derick are working to update the affiliate reporting cycles. Applications for Recognition[edit]

Last quarter, the Affiliations Committee received six new User Group applications and recognized 01 new user group. AffCom is currently reviewing a customized policy on Conflict of Interest policy for better management of expectations.


Affiliate Conflict Intervention[edit]

AffCom is managing eleven active conflicts, with four new cases this quarter. Four of the eight are more serious. The purpose of this table is to summarize new cases and provide updates where relevant in serious cases. Considering the rising issues related to Consensus Building, Bylaws structure, and governance practices, AffCom has identified this as a priority support to be extended to Affiliates in the next year. The committee is improving documentation and training in this area for Affiliates and is also requesting that the Foundation include mediation support for AffCom in the form of an as-needed consultant for the group in its annual plan. The committee is going to release the Bylaw guidelines for affiliates this quarter.

This represents a decline for Chapters (95% last quarter) and User Groups (86% last quarter), and stability for Thematic Organizations. Last quarter, the Affiliations Committee received three new User Group applications and recognized NO new user groups. AffCom is currently working on a Conflict of Interest policy and has kept the application on hold till a clear process is identified.

The purpose of this table is to summarize new cases and provide updates where relevant in serious cases. As of April 8th, 36 Wikimedia Chapters (95%), 2 Thematic Organizations (100%), and 114 active User Groups (86%) were compliant with required reporting. This represents an improvement for Chapters (92% last quarter) and User Groups (77% last quarter), and stability for Thematic Organizations. AffCom discussed the best processes for following up with groups who withdraw or allow their applications to expire. Manav has been providing assistance to support applicants, in cases where the issues are procedural.

Currently, AffCom is discussing the best processes for following up with groups who withdraw or allow their applications to expire. They hope by this to understand how they can improve their support to applicants, in case the issues are procedural.
