Overview

Africa Wiki Women – Give to Gain 2026 is a continental program celebrating International Women’s Day 2026, aimed at bridging persistent content gaps on African women who have made substantial contributions to their communities, nations and the world.

These include African women philanthropists, educators, women-led organisation CEOs, peace builders, and community leaders.

The Wikimedia Community User Group Uganda (WCUGU) will participate by:

  • Creating new Wikipedia articles about notable African women
  • Improving existing articles and translating them into Luganda and Runyankole/Rukiga
  • Creating and improving Wikidata items
  • Hosting an in-person training event in Kampala
  • Hosting a podcast on the event day
  • Supporting editors during the virtual edit-a-thon
