That the sum of all human knowledge will be available in Catalan and that all knowledge about Catalan culture will also be available in every language.

We are committed to the idea of a world where every human being can freely share the sum of all knowledge. We aim to keep on improving the quality of this knowledge.
We foster open knowledge, promoting the usage of licenses, formats, and sources freely accessible, and we support the development of technical solutions that will help to eradicate inequalities and biases on Wikimedia projects.
We promote the promotion of the Catalan culture and language through these projects, both in major and minoritized languages.
We work with volunteers in cultural and educational areas, as well as in other organizations, in order to make knowledge available, usable, and reusable online.
We want to encourage, involve, and recognize the support of our community of volunteers, readers, and contributors, because Wikipedia and its sister projects would not exist without them.

Starting Points

Our starting point is the Strategy Plan2019-2024. At that moment, we aimed to enhance and solidify the Catalan project. There was a participative process open to the wikimedian community. Also, a designated strategy committee took on the responsibility of transforming the results of that first phase into strategies for the following years. The 2019-2024 strategy was built on five main areas.

The 2030 strategy is based on a mature experience. We have just reached the 25th anniversary in 2026. Our goal is to keep moving forward. Now more than ever, this will to move forward means having the capacity to adapt to the changing circumstances. The COVID-19 pandemic meant a turning point: most dynamics within the community have changed. People now think twice about how to spend their free time; the community is more reluctant to volunteer, and there are fewer volunteers.

Furthermore, new technologies are reshaping a new order of knowledge. We are constantly bombarded with all sorts of information; there is an overload of sources due to the widespread disclosure of artificial intelligence. Thus, the challenges have multiplied in recent times. Moreover, the way in which we interact with reliable sources has radically transformed over the last three years. In brief, AI is both a challenge and a new window of opportunity, and we need to act accordingly.

With all these factors, our points of view switched. The Amical community raised new concerns, and we chose to include new profiles in the Strategic Plan consultation. Therefore, we sent a public appeal with several open questions. We used an open-source questionnaire that was easy to answer (no wiki knowledge was required). It was easy access and direct answers through cellphones, computers and other devices. We put substantial effort into reaching the wikimedian community, Wikipedia readers, and the professional educational community. Teachers and professors are in direct contact with the youngest generations and thus are more aware of future needs in the digital environment. The consultation lasted a whole month, until the end of 2024. During our annual in-person meeting, the Viquitrobada in Sabadell, we shared the results. With those, the process of rebuilding a new strategy began. The community decided we needed some time to process and rethink our future lines of works, so 2025 was planned a transitional year. Hence, the 2025 strategy was developmental. This whole year gave us more time to think through and define our new strategic dynamics as a community.

Through this process of reflection, we draw a picture of strengths and weaknesses, and the challenges we need to address in the coming years.

Defining our new dynamics and strategies

With this strategy, we plan to maintain the dynamics that are currently running smoothly and relaunch and stabilize some new ones that have recently been tested and proven successful. To better understand our targets, it is important to note that we far surpassed the 2025 goals. The indicators are available in the Grant final report, in section 2. With all this in mind, the Amical Wikimedia 2030 Strategic Plan is structured around three main axes:

Community

Increase the recognition of our association while promoting an active policy on social networks that help us continue to grow as a community.
Celebrate the community, value, and preserve the community spirit and the work of volunteers who make the community and Wikipedia great.
Active search for new partners and members, especially from underrepresented groups: women, young people, diversity, and territory. We must continue to make efforts in areas with smaller communities. We will take special care to work with activities in Catalan-speaking territories where we have little or no representation in the Wikimedia community. Similarly, we will also organize projects to retain more female editors, young people, and other groups.
Encourage in-person meetings such as the Viquitrobada, periodical in-person editing sites, and longer in-person meetings with Wikipedians. In-person activities are key to forging new alliances and strengthening the editing community. The health of the community is a key point in this strategy.
Promote in residence programs in cultural and academic institutions. We want to establish ourselves as a reference agent for GLAM institutions and work on their content donations.
Advocate for gender equity. We have gone from a goal of one quarterly gender-related project to having a dozen annually. We want to continue with all the consolidated initiatives, support the volunteers who lead them, and promote the retention of editors who only participate in these edit-a-thons.
Consolidate projects that work with other genders and link them to the community itself. We seek to overcome the binary perspective and give voice and safe spaces to all groups.
Continue to develop the safe spaces policy to create a good atmosphere, both in person and remotely. We want a welcoming experience for editors, especially new ones. We will organize training capsules for the community to gain awareness and empathy.
Relaunch wikiprojects linked to the LGBTIQA+ communities that had been successful in the past, but for any reason were discontinued. Stabilize them and create greater cohesion and safe spaces.
Diversity: Provide support in activities that focus on underrepresented regions and communities. Knowledge related to non-Western European countries, traditionally underserved, to close content gaps.
Actively work for the community's well-being via training short courses in conflict management and personal health awareness.
Inclusive programming: Working with groups that have traditionally been excluded from the digital world in general and that are not normally part of the Wikimedia ecosystem.
Document working modes to preserve good practices, so we will be able to implement them in the future as a knowledge management process.
Bring together new agents of knowledge and open source technologies. Provide meeting spaces, to promote the confluence and collaboration in Wikimedia projects.
Retention of women editors. Over the years, it has been observed that only a small percentage of women continue editing. For this reason, the aim is to strengthen the sustained participation of women editors by consolidating spaces for meeting and community-building that reinforce a sense of belonging, with the goal of reducing dropout and ensuring the continuity of their contributions.

Content

Develop projects to improve the content quality, the reliable sources used, as well as minimize orthotypographic errors in Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, Wikidata and sister projects.
Continue to enhance the quality of content on Wikipedia and its sister projects. Contests, marathons, and other initiatives will not focus solely on the creation of new content; we will avoid at all costs quantity over quality.
Promote the internationalization of Catalan cultural content in other linguistic projects, as well as in Wikidata.
Bring to the table the content gaps debate, blind spots that proved difficult to eliminate, and what reliable sources are, and how we use them.
Create a content gap map that is reviewed periodically to gain awareness of the existing biases and enhance the strong need to implement new policies.
Locate image-related gaps and collaborate with institutions and the community via Wikitakes to improve the representation of Catalan culture and heritage, also in the field of open images.
Promote with institutions and information professionals the correct attribution of Wikimedia Commons images that appear in the media, as well as the right wiki ecosystem sources citation. We have been working for some time to ensure the author attribution is respected, but we must be vigilant.
Educate the Wikimedia community on artificial intelligence. Its massive introduction poses opportunities and challenges, has undoubtedly altered the way we understand the digital environment, and will continue to do so. We need to learn from it so we can debate its impact and make informed decisions as a community.
Bring up for debate what role and what efforts we want to dedicate to sister projects. Some operate only at specific times during annual campaigns, while others have fewer editors but remain discreetly active. However, some sister projects are virtually inactive, and we should assess with the community what future we want to give them.

Regarding content, in addition to the general framework, we distinguish the strategies we implement based on the audience or the partner's typology with whom we collaborate. Thus, we take into account:

GLAM

Enhance Open data initiatives, integration of databases in Wikidata, books, and heritage works in Wikipedia and Wikidata.
Plan strategies to promote the use and/or transfer of Catalan knowledge that is already in the public domain.
Advocate the use of open source tools and open access licenses among the host institutions that we partner with in order to incorporate their content systematically.

Education

High School Level

Creation of educational materials for teachers and other teaching professionals.
Work with High School groups and promote activities to highlight the key role of open knowledge and wiki culture.
Developing a mentoring program for the Treball de recerca, which is a mandatory research project during the final two years (Viquibatx and Viquilíder).
Consolidation of annual activities with High Schools, as well as a wiki project training program for teaching staff.

Universities

Organize, plan, and advise on active projects in the various Catalan-speaking universities.
Strengthen the use of wiki projects as a teaching tool in university-level courses, while working as well in a wiki culture professor training course.
Advocate for the donation of databases for the massive entry of data from researchers at Catalan universities (via Open Refine, for instance).
Intensify the interactions between the researchers and Wikimedians to explore the opportunities and challenges posed by artificial intelligence.

Catalan Language

Improve our alliances with the language defense associative network.
Continue collaborating on the organization and participation in events linked to the promotion and advocacy of the Catalan language. In this sense, we are active members of the Alliance for the digital presence of Catalan, where we promote open-culture activism in Catalan as part of our advocacy work.
In the field of digital rights advocacy and the Catalan language, we work in collaboration with the Accent Obert Foundation, where we are trustees and hold one of the vice-presidencies in the delegated commission. Currently, we are on the way to promoting a Catalan bias that artificial intelligence can feed on. We fight against the monoculture of Anglo-Saxon bias by contributing our own Catalan particularities and idiosyncrasies.

Communication

We talk about open culture, and we do it with Fedivers and not just centralist networks, like Big Tech. This is one of the community's demands, and it must be highlighted and valued because it is not a general fact in the wiki ecosystem.
We have greatly improved our metrics, but we want to maintain and improve Wikipedia's visibility in the media.
Creation of a communication plan with periodic actions that are reviewed annually to adapt to new information and technological challenges.
External communication strategy: Strengthen communication dynamics to raise awareness of Amical and attract new members. Work to maintain our media presence by sending press releases, blog posts, and other outreach.
Internal communication strategy: promoting cohesion and fluidity of communication between members. Advocate for participatory processes through wiki channels.
Strengthen the presence of open knowledge and the Catalan language in educational areas.
Maintain the periodical communication already initiated with the world of academia -universities, athenaeums, and other cultural institutions- to detect shortcomings in Wikipedia and promote their resolution.

Indicators

Although the community is no longer focused on obtaining large quantitative results and we think more about the quality of the activities, we are considering achieving some specific indicators:

Maintain moderate growth in the number of readings on Wikipedia in Catalan in Spain (strongly affected by external factors such as the general lack of devices in Catalan or recent changes in the algorithm search engines).
Stabilize active member nodes in the Balearic Islands, the Valencian Community, Andorra, and in areas of Catalonia where there is no member stability.
Achieve new collaboration circles of Wikipedians and/or members of Amical in Northern Catalonia, in Alghero, and Catalan diaspora associations.
Reach a stable figure of 2,000 active Wikipedians monthly.
Milestones of 1,000,000 articles, 1,000 quality articles, and approaching 20% of drafts on Wikipedia.
Consolidate the interaction in a minimum of 10 schools/high schools and stabilize activity in 10 of the 24 centers of the Vives Network of Universities throughout the territory.
Reestablish contact with the 200 entities in the #bibliowikis network and manage to relaunch the bibliowikis program in a sustained manner over time. Identify 10 active libraries and archives with standardized annual activities throughout the territory.
Locally adapt all possible features of sister projects for complete navigation of Wikimedia projects in Catalan on the mobile network.
Achieve 15 very active members (more than 5 annual activities) and 8 new members under 30 years old to ensure generational succession for Amical Wikimedia.
Achieve the incorporation of at least 10 female members into the social mass of Amical Wikimedia.
Maintain the percentage of most active users of Wikimedia projects in Catalan who are also members, in order not to lose the link between the association and the publishing community.
