Assamese Wikimedia Community/Reports/Wiki Loves Folklore-Seven Sisters (2025)

Wiki Loves Folklore (WLF) is an annual international photographic competition held during the month of February, organised worldwide by Wikimedia community members with the help of local Wikimedia affiliates and Wikipedians across the globe. Participants take pictures of local folk culture and intangible heritage in their region, and upload them to Wikimedia Commons. The aim of event is to document folklore traditions around the world with a goal to encourage people to capture media of their local Folk culture, and to put them under a free licence which can then be re-used not only in Wikipedia but everywhere by everyone.

Photo Walk

This year the Assamese Wikimedia Community conducted an online photographic competition on Wikimedia Commons. As part of this initiative, A photo walk was conducted across various districts of Assam, including Dibrugarh, Baksa, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, Lakhimpur, Nalbari, and Majuli, by 11 individuals independently. Each participant captured stunning photographs showcasing the rich traditions of communities like the Bodo, Mising, and Ahom, as well as the region’s unique heritage crafts such as bell metal work, terracotta, traditional masks, and handlooms. The event took place in the month of March.
