Public domain

In Finnish legislation there is no concept of public domain, and euphemisms such as outside copyright must be used to express the same idea. What makes it even more challenging is that the concept does not have good translation candidates either. We are committed to making public domain more prominent in Finland and join activities celebrating public domain globally.

TAROCH

AvoinGLAM joins the TAROCH Coalition led by Creative Commons, and the Advocacy Planning and Materials Workspace: a workspace to support Coalition advocacy. The mission of the initiative is to encourage UNESCO Member States to elaborate and adopt an international standard-setting instrument (a recommendation or other non-binding instrument) to promote and encourage open solutions to better access cultural heritage in the public domain.
