Belarusian Wikipedia Day in the Czech Republic – an event organized on April 20, 2013 in Prague aimed at popularizing the idea of editing and developing Belarusian Wikipedias among Belarusian-speaking people residing in the Czech Republic; the event was organized by: Belarusian National Memory, Union of Belarusians in the Czech Republic "Pahonia" and Polish Wikipedian Tomasz Bladyniec.
Goal

Following the success of Belarusian Wikipedia Day in Poland, the decision was quickly made to organize a similar workshop in the Czech Republic. As before, its goal was to popularize the idea of editing and developing Belarusian-language Wikipedias among Belarusians living abroad. A second goal was to create a nucleus of a Belarusian-speaking Wikipedia community in the Czech Republic, which could become independent and strengthened over time. In a broader context, this would have a positive impact on the development of civil society among Belarusians. The third goal was to support, preserve, and popularize the Belarusian language, which is endangered.
Organizers and participants
[edit]The event took place at the Belarusian Club in Prague, located at 5. května 1043/32. The organizers were: Anatol Michnaviec – chairman of the Polish-based organization Belarusian National Memory, Polish Wikipedian Tomasz Bladyniec, and members of the Union of Belarusians in the Czech Republic "Pahonia", who made their premises available for the workshop and provided significant organizational support.
