"Open Minds: Empowering Youth through the Open Knowledge Movement" is a special event organized by the BOLI CHETO FOUNDATION in collaboration with Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University's Social Work Department. Set against the backdrop of the International Decade of Indigenous Languages (IDIL), declared by the United Nations, the event aims to celebrate and raise awareness about the significance of indigenous languages while empowering youth through the Open Knowledge Movement and emphasizing on Wikimedia Movement.

Objectives and Event plan

1. Inaugural Ceremony: A formal opening ceremony featuring esteemed guest speakers, including indigenous language experts, community leaders, and representatives from Wikimedia, highlighting the importance of indigenous languages and the Open Knowledge Movement.

2. Keynote Address: Nethi Sai Kiran, Founder of Boli Cheto, will deliver a keynote address emphasizing the significance of IDIL and the pivotal role of indigenous languages in contemporary society, alongside fostering open knowledge initiatives.

3. Panel Discussions: Panels comprising indigenous language speakers, social workers and academics will engage in discussions regarding the challenges and opportunities related to indigenous language preservation, cultural revitalization, and Wikimedia awareness in promoting open knowledge.

4. Special Talk: An additional session may include a special talk by a notable figure or organization focusing on innovative approaches or successful initiatives in indigenous language preservation and Open Knowledge Movement.


Expected Outcomes

Through these activities, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the importance of indigenous languages and Open Knowledge, the challenges faced by indigenous communities, and the actionable roles that social workers, students, and Wikimedia can play in supporting language preservation and cultural revitalization efforts.
