- Project description
The project will organize a local edit-a-thon focused on creating and improving content on Wikipedia and Wikiquote about notable women from Uzbekistan and Central Asia, as well as women-related fields, including fashion-related topics. The activities will build on the experience of previously organized initiatives such as the Wiki Loves Fashion 2025 project on Wikipedia and the #SheSaid 2025 campaign on Wikiquote.
A short introductory training will be provided for new participants, especially women, covering the basics of editing on Wikipedia and Wikiquote, working with reliable sources, and understanding notability criteria.
The project aims to reduce content-related gender gaps on Wikimedia projects, strengthen the capacity of the local Wikimedia community, and encourage the long-term participation of women within the Wikimedia movement.
In addition, the project will include photo documentation of notable women and national costumes, with a particular focus on women’s traditional clothing, to enrich Wikimedia Commons. This activity will be integrated with the Wiki Loves Folklore campaign. The use of uploaded Wikimedia Commons images to improve Wikipedia and Wikiquote articles will be included as a required component of the edit-a-thon activities.

[edit]- Any additional comments or remarks about your project
Within the framework of the project, three workshops are planned to be conducted. These workshops will primarily target WikiClub students and new volunteers. In addition, during the offline sessions, a presentation will be delivered on the role of women editors at international Wikimedia conferences (such as WikiWomen Lunch). Where possible, online meetings with international Wikimedia contributors will also be organized via Zoom or Google Meet.
I plan to implement this project based on the knowledge and experience gained through my involvement in several previous initiatives, including organizing the 10th anniversary offline meeting of Wikipedia Asian Month, the upcoming offline meeting for Wikipedia’s 25th anniversary scheduled to take place between the 10th and 15th of this month, as well as participating in projects such as #SheSaid 2025 and Wiki Loves Fashion 2025. In addition, I participated in the WikiWomen mini-marathon organized in cooperation with UNDP, where I was awarded first place as a participant.
Additionally, my ongoing involvement with the TSUE and UZLIT Wiki student clubs, as well as my participation in Wikimania 2025 and GLAM 2025, will contribute to ensuring a high-quality implementation of this project. For outreach and information dissemination, I will utilize the social media channels of my viki_tiki project, which I manage for the Uzbek Wikipedia community.
