Type of Event/Activity
[edit]- Digitization of PD books in collaboration with JB College, Jorhat and Govt. Boys H. S. School, Jorhat along with outreach programs to encourage relicensing of books and workshops for new editors.
Purpose of the Event/Activity
[edit]- The digitization efforts of Assamese Wikisource have been limited to individual endeavours and scattered collections by various Govt. and non-govt. agencies. However there has not been any structured digitization program from the Assamese Wikimedia Community till now. JB college and Govt. Boys HS School, Jorhat, have come forward initially to collaborate with the community in this regard and CIS has also communicated with other institutions. The momentum gained from the pilot program can spearhead the digitization drive for the community in other localities of Assam. Therefore it is requested that a CZur 18 Pro scanner (new or used) perfectly working condition is sent to Vivekananda Kendra Institute of Culture, Guwahati (as verbally proposed by CIS) or Pranjyoti Nath, Jorhat on behalf of Assamese Wikimedia Community at the earliest so that this GLAM project can be initiated by 1st March, 2025. The outreach program regarding relicensing of books in the institutes will inspire other writers to relicense their books. A short workshop has also been planned in J. B. College for the new and willing editors.

- An outreach event at J. B. College, Jorhat on relicensing of published books.
- A workshop at J. B. College, Jorhat on basics of Assamese Wikisource.
- Department of Assamese, Tezpur University is also interested in collaborating.
Expected Outcomes from the Event/Activity planned
[edit]- Digitization drive will add old and valuable books to Assamese Wikisource.
- Individuals will be familiar with the possibilities, rules and regulations of digitization and re-licensing of their books following the outreach event.
- The workshop will enable the new and willing editors to contribute to Assamese Wikisource effectively.

[edit]- We will keep a regular contact with the individuals and organizations participated in this event and send the news and update of different digitization programs. The interested ones will be engaged in further course of actions.

[edit]We are glad to see this initiative. For the last few months, we are having frequent conversations regarding the digitisation partnerships. We will work together on the details in near future.
